The Rev from Avenged Sevenfold found dead.

According to The Orange County Register, AVENGED SEVENFOLD drummer James Owen Sullivan (a.k.a. The Rev) was found dead at his home on Monday (December 28). He was 28 years old.

Sullivan appears to have died of natural causes, Huntington Beach police Lt. John Domingo said. Police were notified by firefighters who had responded to Sullivan's home about 1 p.m.

The Orange County Coroner's Office is investigating the death.




Not a fan of the band, but I always found his drumming to be the highlight of their sound. RIP. He was too young.

On November 5th, 2009, Zacky Vengeance posted a message on the official website stating that they had returned from their tour and immediately started focusing on forming a production team in order to start recording the album. "We will continue finalizing our songs until we feel every note does both you as well as us justice. We are also in the final stages of solidifying our production team, studios and engineers so that the second the axe falls and the album is written we will spend day and night in the studio until it is complete. This album will definitely take you on a very dark journey..."

This just hit me hard.  He was such a huge influence on me growing up, and was such a core member of A7X.  I was looking forward to their new album so much (and being able to see them live again).

Wow, this is really sad news.  My sister just told me about it 5 minutes ago.  It's kinda scary as a fan of the band because I know Jimmy was a huge contributor to their style and sound.  Hopefully, this won't keep the band from making new music, but it would totally make sense if they took a long break. 

More importantly, however, my condolences go out to The Rev's family and bandmates.  I can't imagine the kind of pain they're going through right now.  28 is way too young for such a talent to be taken from this world. 

This sucks.  I just got into these guys with City of Evil, and it feels like he's been stolen from us.  I'm not a drummer, but his songwriting and creativity was and will always be a huge inspiration to me musically.

I'm deeply saddened by this. I know that 9/10 chance this is drug/alcohol related. It pains me a lot to know that. Such wasted talent.

He seriously was one of my top 3 biggest musical influences when I first got on the drums. Seeing the debut of Unholy Confessions on Headbanger's Ball on MTV2 at my sister's house almost instantly made me want to be a Metal drummer. Sorry Lars, Sorry Mike Portnoy, Sorry Gene Hoglan. It was the Rev that made me want to be a Metal drummer. The others just made me want to be a metal drummer more.

It will take me a LONG time to get over this.

Wow this is terrible news. I really enjoyed his drumming. He will be missed...

Are you fucking serious? This cat was one of the more creative/aggressive metal drummers as of late. He was 4 years YOUNGER than me... What the hell is wrong with this picture???? Gone at 28. I am entirely in a state of shock right now. RIP Jimmy. I love the musical contributions this guy made to A7X and will miss his drumming greatly. Another talent has left us too soon.

HEY FUCKERS LIKE ME OUT THERE: This is a sobering call... Abuse will catch up with you one day. Cut back on the "lifestyle" that sucks the life out of you. This is as much a call to MYSELF as it is for anyone willing to listen. Luckily, in the last 8-9 months I have regained much sanity. I hope others in my position will come to the same conclusion.

I'm at a loss for words. I just found this out now. He was an excellent drummer. He'll be missed in the music community.

What the fuck. I don't know what to say. I'm really saddened by this news. Another great musician and a great drummer gone. I've been a fan of the band for a few years now and this comes as a real shock. 

I know they were going to be releasing a new album next year, but I hope the band takes a break for a while and come back even stronger.

This band's debauchery is well-documented.  It's the chance you take when you live this kind of life.  And while the death certainly could have been from natural causes on the surface, I am pretty sure that substances pushed this man's body to the brink, based on what I've heard about these guys.

I was never a fan of their music, but I am even less of a fan of someone dying needlessly at the age of 28.  This is extremely sad, particularly for the people who loved this man.

Perhaps this will serve as a wake-up call for someone else who is on the verge of "death by natural causes"
