The Orange County Coroner's Office is investigating the death.

They don't "investigate" death by "natural causes" 

It seems as though "natural causes" seems to be the term now used when they either don't know for sure what happened, or when they want to hide something.
Never got into them much but it's definitely sad to hear something like this.  I'm glad Mike and DT are not into this kind of stuff and we don't have to worry about hearing news like this some day. 

Yes, it is very uncommon for a 28-year-old to die of "natural causes".
 
Anyway, I am not a fan, but premature deaths are always a tragedy.

Looks like it's almost certain to be a drug overdose of some kind.  This story cites the coroner's office as stating that the autopsy was "inconclusive"

My sister-in-law died of a drug overdose - her autopsy was "inconclusive" until toxicology reports were returned.

My wife's friend died of a drug overdose - her autopsy was "inconclusive" until toxicology reports were returned

When I was a kid, my best friend died of a drug overdose - his autopsy was "inconclusive" until toxicology results were returned.

These were all young people, like this drummer dude.  And generally, when someone really dies of "natural causes" an autopsy reveals the cause of death.

I'm calling drug overdose right now.  Sad.  Such a waste.  And that could easily be me.  I lost count of how many times I overdosed before I finally got help and got clean.

Sad, of course.

But personally, I don't need to listen to Dirt one more time to realise that drugs do nothing but fuck you up, so I can't feel sorry for the guy, just the people around him.

RIP.

Rest in peace, Rev. I really enjoyed the magic you made on the last Avenged Sevenfold album. You'll be missed but never forgotten.

Rev looks like a young Nikki Sixx in that pic with the article.  Unfortunately, he didn't have Nikki's resilience.

I just heard about this a few moments ago.  Really unexpected and a sad loss, I seen Avenged Sevenfold live when they came to Toronto last winter.

 I can't see his death being of natural causes.

Not cool, I actually saw this news when I got home last night. He was a beast of a drummer and blew my mind on Waking the Fallen and CoE. 28 is way too young.

This is what happens to you when you push the limits of your body with chemicals and you add the stress of the road on top of that.  You can't mess with your body like that.

ah, finally found this thread, was wondering when i could turn this up...man i couldnt believe it when i heard it....the best songwriter in the band died - i mean he made "A little piece of heaven" happen and come to life.....really going to be hard to replace....

I'll miss this guy. One of the many awesome drummmers i liked !

Weird. The day before he died, I bought their Self-Titled album. And the night before, I had a dream that I met him. Coincidence? I think not.

Man that letter M. Shadows wrote was really a tear jerker... That's gotta be rough being friends with the Rev since they were kids. I'm glad to hear that they are determined to at least record and put out the album they wrote. And glad it was at least written while The Rev was still alive. I just wonder though who the would get to record the drums on that album.

A great lesson about the ups and downs of music world. it must be really strange for a band to deal with this situation. just after finishing writing an album.

There's been no word in the media on the "official cause" of death, but with that said, let's be realistic here folks, eh?  I know many here idolize this guy, but this band's partying and debauchery are well documented, the most likely reason for his death, given the anecdotal evidence and circumstances is a drug overdose.  Sad but true.  And if his family wields any type of influence with those who would publish such information, well, you'll probably never hear another thing about this.

You may very well be right, but I really don't see the point in posting speculations like this based on what you think may or may not have happened. If we don't hear anything, we don't hear anything. No need trying to drag the guy down just for the sake of it.
