blueboars sad news to say the least. Hope it was just "natural causes" It's definitely a tragedy, 28 is way too young to die. But drugs would at least give a reason for his death, the thought of some natural cause just killing me one day is terrifying.

Even if he cleaned up, or just wasnt doing drugs lately the abuse he put his heart and body thru would be enough to shut it down eventually. RIP

It just goes to show, as has been said many times on this forum, Carpe Diem.

God that's awful. I just became an Avenged fan probably 4 months ago and I've been waiting for some more concert dates to pop up so I can catch them in concert (which I figured would be awhile since I was under the impression they were writing a new record) and now I hear this... RIP Rev. My heart goes out to your family and band mates. You were an incredible drummer man.

I woke up this morning still with a heavy heart and I will be playing A7X music in my car and on the drums later as a tribute to The Rev. Now it's time to stop mourning his death and start remembering his musical contributions. I'm very glad that I can say that I've seen him play live 3 times, and I really hope that A7X can find a drummer and continue making great music.

One of my favourite drummers.... and one of the best of the decade. One of his top 3 influences is Mike Portnoy and Dream Theater....

Absolutely shocking...what a sad loss.... The Rev and I exchanged many emails/texts through the years...he always mentioned me in interviews and cited me as a favorite and an influence and I was always flattered by that. I thought he was a great drummer and I've been an A7X fan for a few years now (see my HOTD post from a few years back) What a tragedy and my heart and prayers go out to his band and family... MP

I've never heard any of their music but from what I've read, it seems that A7X were a much adored band here. My condolences to his family, friends and fans.

I can't fucking believe this. The Rev was such a promising talent. He was absolutely my favorite part of Avenged Sevenfold, probably one of the best modern metal drummers I've heard. Im really sad about this, even sadder to know that he didn't lay down any tracks for the new album. I haven't been this bummed since Rick Wright passed on. To make things erie/worse, last night on my run I listened to Avenged Sevenfold for the first time in months.

The Rev was one of my favorites and will surely be missed. I'm glad I read the "tweet" about this when I got to work and not while driving. I really needed a minute to grasp what I was reading. He seemed like a really cool guy. This is going to be a tough one for A7X. I wish I was home spinning the live DVD and making of the S/T disc. At least I have those keepsakes.

Right, I'm back. Holy fuck, i'm torn apart by this. He was the drummer that got me playing double bass and one of my first songs I learnt, when I did get my double bass pedal, was Beast and the Harlot. What a talent he was. Incredible work on all of his albums, and he tore the kit apart on Live at the LBC. He's the first major death in music of my generation I think. I feel privilaged to have had the opportunity to see him play 3 times. RIP Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan

Gravy My favorite song by them is A Little Piece Of Heaven, which he wrote. What a great tune. I saw the video of this song a while ago today. The song is really great but that video is just fucked up. I havent really listened much from these guys but the few songs I checked out the drum parts indeed kick so much ass, the guy had chops.

KirksNoseHair opethlord The Orange County Coroner's Office is investigating the death. They don't "investigate" death by "natural causes" It seems as though "natural causes" seems to be the term now used when they either don't know for sure what happened, or when they want to hide something. Never got into them much but it's definitely sad to hear something like this. I'm glad Mike and DT are not into this kind of stuff and we don't have to worry about hearing news like this some day.

Talk about a shock to the system. Very sad and a great loss to the drumming community. I got to see the Rev perform live and he was an incredible drummer and a great showman. Just very sad. Never take a day for granted.

hmmmm saw this a few minutes ago.... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34617808/from/RSS/ From the article. Sullivan, in particular, had raised eyebrows after a 2006 cover story in metal magazine Revolver described his penchant for cocaine and other drugs. Very sad. RIP.

I read this just before I went to the museum today, and right there I saw the lines "CARPE DIEM". I kept listening this album (CoE) during the day, specially this tune. I've been a fan for almost 5 years now and this news really f'ed up my day. A great drummer, a great bandmate (for what I've seen/read), a great and sometimes humble person, and most tragic, a pretty damn young one. RIP James "The Rev" Owen Sullivan, I know you will always be in my thoughts and prayers, just like your family and friends who will grieve your loss.

Although I was never a fan of the band I feel compelled to write something anyway. It really shocks me that he was so young (I'll be 28 in a couple of years) and that he probably died a natural death. That really makes you think that you should enjoy every moment of your life. R.I.P.
