MP's Best Of 00's Decade-End Wrap Up CDs: Top 10: 1. Muse - Absolution 2. Bigelf - Cheat The Gallows 3. Opeth - Blackwater Park * 4. Spock's Beard - Snow 5. The Flaming Lips - At War With The Mystics 6. Endochine - Day Two 7. Beardfish - Sleeping In Traffic Pts 1&2 8. Metallica - Death Magnetic 9. Lamb Of God - Ashes Of The Wake 10. Peter Gabriel - Up Top 20: 11. Between The Buried & Me - Colors 12. Machine Head - The Blackening 13. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 14. Slipknot - Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses 15. Mastodon - Crack The Skye * A special mention must be made declaring Opeth as my "Band of the Decade" as I could have easily listed Deliverance, Damnation, Ghost Reveries and Watershed all in my top 10 as well, but I had a self-imposed rule of only one album per band... (I had similar issues picking a definitive album from Porcupine Tree, Pain Of Salvation, Mastodon, Lamb Of God and The Flaming Lips who all put out very consistant, quality releases all decade) And of course the 5 Dream Theater, 3 Transatlantic, 6 Neal Morse, 1 John Arch & 2 OSI albums I released this decade! Mullholland Drive (David Lynch) 5. Memento (Christopher Nolan) 6. Irreversible (Gasper Noe) 7. Vanilla Sky (Cameron Crowe) 8. Requiem For A Dream (Darren Aronofsky) 9. Once (John Carney) 10. Lost In Translation (Sofia Coppola) 15. Kill Bill Vol 1&2 (Quentin Tarantino) 16. Match Point (Woody Allen) 17. Traffic (Steven Soderbergh) 18. There Will Be Blood (Paul Thomas Anderson) 19. No Country For Old Men (Joel & Ethan Coen) 20. Almost Famous (Cameron Crowe) * Honorable mention goes to Christopher Guest as I couldn't pick just one film between Best In Show, A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration ---------- TV: Top 10: 1. Lost 2. The Sopranos 3. Six Feet Under 4. The Office (UK) 5. Curb Your Enthusiasm 6. The Wire 7. Rescue Me 8. Sons Of Anarchy 9. The Shield 10. Extras Top 20: 11. Family Guy 12. Mad Men 13. Dexter 14. Brotherhood 15. Entourage 16. Californication 17. Breaking Bad 18. Eastbound & Down 19. Damages 20. True Blood ----------- Songs: 1. Opeth - The Baying Of The Hounds 2. Lets see out of the albums I've got about four of them. Out of the films I've seen about two of them. And out of the TV Series I've only seen all of Lost and Extras. I really really need to start watching and listening to more stuff, especially with regards to TV Series I need to watch Sopranos and all of The Wire.

I'm surprised to see Weezer in there among all the progressive rock and metal bands. I would've gone with the Red Album personally, but the Green Album was their triumphant return and was sort of the ultimate pop album.

Cool list, one thing that struck me was how it must have seemed for long periods that you might never make an album with Neal again yet when you look at it, three TA albums and SIX solo albums its been an incredibly prolific decade! Very cool.

szabiakanich Kinda surprised about the absence of Cynic's Traced in Air on the decade end wrap up list. I'm not particularly surprised; when it came out I don't remember MP being *overly* enthusiastic about it. I think it got an honourable mention in his end of 2008 post. I have to say it's album of the decade for me though.

Films: Top 10: 1. City Of God (Fernando Meirelles) Portnoy, I'm surprised that "City of God," a Brazilian film, be on your list, even in first! I am especially here in Brazil because the public did not care much, in fact, there is a lot of prejudice to the cinema ... But I'm happy to see this international recognition! Mike, are there any other Brazilian film you like?

Cool to see Sixx AM getting some love. I think that is a highly underrated album and cant believe it didnt have bigger success. And I obviously understand the meaning behind the song and figure the reason that Mike likes it.

Bolus - I play keyboards, in a band, we make music, it's good when you hear it, ya. Time And Tension - more delicious prog! yum!

Awesome list Mike. I'm putting together my own best of the 00's, and i must say i agree with a LOT of these. But no Mars Volta? To each his own of course, but i guess for me Volta are my "band of the decade" like Opeth is yours. I do agree that you can put just about any of Opeth's releases on that list tho

Great stuff man! I have a few of the albums on there, and will certainly be checking out more. I must say, Mike, you really do have awesome taste. Because of you, I've checked out so much music and discovered so much. I knew Metallica was officially back when you gave Death Magnetic your thumbs up. Nice to see that AIC made your top 10 of 2009, and also nice to see that I'm not the only one who loves that album. Anyways, happy, happy holidays to you and the family, and hope to see you in NYC at the Transatlantic gig.

Keane came from the school nearest to me, they were named after a dinner lady there i believe. Really glad to see bedshaped on there, would be on mine too, keep putting that CD in to listen to that song, the vocal melodies are incredible.

Portnoy 10. Bigelf - Counting Sheep This one just had to be in the list. I'm addicted to that song. One of the best songs to close an album I've ever heard. On a side note: No love for Frances the Mute by The Mars Volta?

sdfdsv dexter is too low :P I'm glad it got mentioned at least. And of course Sons of Anarchy, great show! There's really too much amazing stuff in the lists! I wonder if MP has such a Top 10 list for books, if he loves to read at all of course.

Portnoy Songs: 1. Opeth - The Baying Of The Hounds Affirmative. That would be my choice or either of Reverie/Harlequin Forest or Ghost of Perdition.

I can't be in two bands at once. Tom Petty tried that with The Heartbreakers and The Wilburys. Nearly killed the fucking guy...

Nice choice with the films. Children of Men is one of my favorites; glad to see it's up at #2! Huge fan of the last 3 films on that list as well. Nice taste.
