Katatonia - Night Is the New Day

any of you euros out there heard this yet?  i have only heard "Forsaker" as it was released by the label.
 
what did you think of the cd?  if the rest of it sounds like "Forsaker" then i need to get it, but if not, then im not sure...Forsaker is just so focused, and special.  its a sound i have not heard from katatonia ever before.

Akerfeldt got me interested.

Very heavy on atmosphere, there are lots of keys on this album. Like a lower-key Last Fair Deal Gone Down. I personally can't get enough of it.

Well i have bought the album, and for me it goes in the 3rd place in my "albums of the year" list...
It is AMAZING. There is some meshuggah influence which to me sounds awesome, more keys than previous albums, and very emotional vocal melodies...
It continues where TGCD left, with more experimental stuff, like the melancholic departer...
I highly recommend this album!!

When I first heard it I thought it was the biggest f*ck*ng let down of the year...

But know I like it and I'm addicted to Idle Blood...

Highlights for me: Forsaker, Idle Blood, Departer.

Fantastic album. It's similar to TGCD in many ways, but more dark and not as catchy. It flows incredibly well! Plus the bonus track for the Swedish edition (Ashen) is a very nice song.

Brilliant album. Listened to it for the first time on the way to work this morning. If you like the myspace track you'll love the rest of it.

Still waiting on my copy to get here.  It shipped on Monday, so hopefully I'll have it by early next week. 

I've been actively avoiding any samples or songs, but several people I know who have heard it whom I trust have raved about it. 

I've only heard bits and pieces of it, but it sounds awesome. My husband has heard the whole album, and he loves it. You should get it :-)

I think it's their best since Last Fair Deal Gone Down, which is an album I consider one of the ones of the decade. It is a very good record, and everyone should buy it.

Oh yes. Last Fair Deal Gone Down was a fantastic album. It is probably the most interesting one since that album. Though, every Katatonia album has at least a few outstanding songs.

I finally got this album.

It is one of the most beautiful pieces of work I've ever heard. Stunning. If I had it last year it would have been at or near the top of my list.

EVERYONE should own this album.

This album grew so much on me.

I picked this album up with zero knowledge of the band.  I was just in tune buying mood and the cover grabbed me for some reason - and remembered hearing the name somewhere before.

I love it.  Liked it right away and now can't get enough of it.  Reminds me a bit of the mellow opeth stuff with a little more bite.  SOme pretty beautiful moments on this one.

I had some Best Buy Reward Zone certs to use so I blew them on Katatonia.

I picked up the Peaceville UK mastered edition of Brave Murder Day because Akerfeldt sang on it and Night Is The New Day because Akerfeldt went nuts over it.

I enjoyed Brave Murder Day but I am freaking loving Night Is The New Day. I haven't finished listening to it yet but it is blowing my mind. It could end up being my album of the year for 2009.

I have already ordered Last Fair Deal Gone Down, Viva Emptiness, and the 2 disc reissue of The Great Cold Distance.

Yeah, Night Is The New Day was one of my favorite albums of 2009.  Amazing album!

I quite like all of the Katatonia albums I own (this, Viva Emptiness and Last Fair Deal Gone Down), but I almost never listen to the others.  I just really love this album.

Marvellous album. I almost forgot about them after Great Cold Distance, and now this surprise, out of the blue... Marvellous... Superb.

Had to bump. Thought I would give these guys a chance - since they're opening up for Opeth in a few weeks. Ummmm....where have I been?!? This CD is fucking amazing!! Production, song writing and especially the dark feel. It's Depeche Mode/Deftones goes prog metal!! So many beautiful songs!! So glad I gave it a chance!!

Great Cold Distance is awesome, but my favorite is "Last Fair Deal Gone Down".

Daniel Liljekvist has some of the tastiest chops of any drummer I've ever heard.  He's very tactical and reminds a great deal of Scott Rockenfield and Neil Peart.  These guys are horribly underrated in the metal world.  Night is the New Day hasn't left my CD player for 6 months!  I especially love the bonus cut "Ashen".

This album is really good indeed. I like it about as much as The Great Cold Distance, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less.
 
Lately I've been listening quite a bit to their 2001 album Last Fair Deal Gone Down... Definitely one of their best.
