BTBAM - The Great Misdirect Monday, October 26, 2009 2:48 AM (permalink)
I heard they pushed the release date forward to tomorrow so I checked iTunes and it's currently available to download.

Such a fun album to listen to, God.

I know there's a Great Misdirect thread somewhere but the search function wasn't working at all.  I hate that thing.

Anyway, post your thoughts.  Disease, Injury, Madness is my favorite as of right now.  The soft section is awesome, and the cowbell section is just...

    UHHHHHHHH SO GOOD

It's really good. Very really good. I was scared it was going to be Colors Pt. 2, but they totally threw that right out the window. This album is very new and fresh, and I'm loving it.

Only gripe is the production - in THAT respect it pretty much sounds like Colors Pt. 2, which I'm not a fan of, but oh well.

Yeah, this album is really great. I've only given it a couple of spins so I can't pick a favourite but Mirrors, Desert Song and Swim to the Moon stand out to me. About a month ago I didn't like this band, but after giving Colors repeated listens, I now find them quite exciting.

The horse neigh might be the best moment of the whole album for me.

You just love that horse don't you? Haha.

I really dig the album thus far but so far I'm giving the edge to Colors. Colors just seemed to flow a little bit better in terms of songwriting whereas this album comes off as overly technical at times to me.

That said, there are plenty of amazing moments;  any part of "Injury", the outro to "Fossil", all of "Mirrors". I really hope to see them perform this material live sometime...

this album has been kicking my arse, there are some really good moments on it, that could even top the best moments of colors , but as a whole album it falls just a little short in my opinion. Still, there's some great riffing, and a short bass solo which sounds very similar to a bass intro we should all know..

Oh snap! 5.1 mix!? I need to get my hands on that!! The album is incredible...I think my favorite part would be the soft section of Fossil Genera - A Feed From Cloud Mountain.

I can't wait to pick this up tomorrow. Hopefully they'll play the whole album when I see them live in a couple of weeks.

It's a great album so far. I LOVE Blake's playing on the last track. I still need to give it a few more listens to see if it beats Colors, but I doubt it will.

FUCK yeah!  Even though it says the release date is today,
                                    I STILL ORDERED IT!

...It says it will ship around the date it's released.  Being that it was released today... Overnight shipping, maybe?
Probably not, but it would be cool.

Wait so its official that they are playing it in its entirety live???

yeah, thats my understanding. I read that their myspace page but am having trouble finding it so i quoted the venues website, per the orange peel:

Raleigh, North Carolina-based progressive metalcore quintet BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME will play a record-release show for its new album, "The Great Misdirect", this Halloween at the Orange Peel in Asheville, North Carolina. The band will perform the entire new CD "plus some oldies" at the show, which will feature additional appearances by GLASS CASKET (featuring BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME drummer Blake Richardson and guitarist Dustie Waring), BRAVEYOUNG and TORCHRUNNER (featuring BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME's merch/light guy Chuck Johnson). The first 200 people in the doors will get a FREE POSTER!

So far, I've listened to it only once, so I haven't nearly grasped everything that's going on. But I liked most of what I've heard. Still, they should get a better producer the next time around. It doesn't sound that much better than Colors.

                                                  KILLER album.

Desert of Song is the standout song for me at the minute. Even though it can be compared to Coldplay, it achieves what Coldplay may have been aiming for their entire career in the space of one song. Paul's guest vocals are brilliant as well.

With this album, I think we can officially call any Metalcore affiliation dead. This could be classed as a standup Progressive Metal/Jazz Fusion album. Colors started this direction, and TGM is simply running with it. With AWESOME results.

                                                  Very good album.

For me the only Metalcore connection are the vocals, and obviously, it's still there.

The intro to Fossil Genera is simply amazing. From what I've heard, this sounds like a really good album.

this album has been kicking my arse, there are some really good moments on it, that could even top the best moments of colors , but as a whole album it falls just a little short in my opinion. Still, there's some great riffing, and a short bass solo which sounds very similar to a bass intro we should all know..

Haha, the part in DIM that sounds like The Glass Prison? Yeah, it does sound pretty similar...

Yeah, there are two DT references. The Glass Prison in DIM and New Millenium in Obfuscation.

Blake is the man of the album for all his drum work; happy to hear that drum part in the first studio footage video make the album =)

                                                                      Oh...

So I asked, because you wrote "guest vocals".
Know I know why you wrote that.

Between the Buried and Me is the only band that can write a masterpiece, then shit on it and make something as close to perfection as possible.

Then again, I've had Colors for 2 years so I'm a little tired of it , and this for less than a day so it's all fresh and full of surprises, so in two years or so my opinion would probably change.
Nonetheless, this album kicked my ass.

I need to listen a lot more, but this might be better than Colors.  I'm so glad they've continued to add more progressive elements to their sound while toning down the hardcore, so when those parts come, I'm actually excited for them.

And Dan Briggs even managed to exceed my expectations.  His phrasing, tone, and technique are all so perfect.
