The Office Season 6 Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Next thursday (17th) is the premiere for this show and Im cautiously optimistic. Season 5 was a very mixed bad for me and I was hoping they would end the show. That said the show did manage to snag 9 Emmy nominations so goes to show what I know.

The season five DVD boxset is also out today and I'll probably get it much later when the prices come down, not in any rush to grab them.

Bring back the UK version!! xD

Not that it's relevant or needed here, but the US version is much better than the UK version IMO.

I enjoyed a lot of Season 5, although you're right, it wasn't anywhere near up to par with Season 2 or the heights of Season 3. Can only look forward to more Office though!

Love the office still, but it's best days are behind. Like all TV, I'll enjoy it until I'm done enjoying it.

I personally havent seen all UK episodes and from the 1 or 2 that I did see it was hilarious as well. I'll have to get around to watching them all someday.

As for the US version I think the show changed a bit after the writer's strike in season 4, up until that point it was still very enjoyable.

My High School classmate David Rogers is an editor on The Office; in addition, he directed an episode last season as well as an upcoming episode this season which airs Oct. 15.

I dug the earlier seasons personally simply because it was a bit more campy, and showed more satire in the story.

In season five they really started to play to the camera a lot more and that really effected the show, IMO. 

However- I'm nearly done with disc two of season 5 and I must say that it's growing on me.  I'm looking forward to season 6! 

Not as good as the earlier seasons, but still better than 90% of the other dreck that is on primetime TV...It is miles better than "Parks & Recreation" IMO....

I'll keep watching it...It's like an old friend at this point...But what do I know, I have been watching the Simpsons since I was like 9, despite the obvious drop-off in quality, so I may not be the best barometer for these things....

What do you mean by this? They've always "played to the camera" as the cameras are supposed to be there. And actually, Jim's classic looks at the camera in the early seasons was one of my favorite things. Ryan's too.

I thought last season was great for a lot more development in characters, and some episodes mad me laugh out loud a lot, so I am really looking forward to this season, I have been waiting all summer! I might just have to spend a few hours every day revisiting old seasons, its been forever.

By the way, The Office will be on TBS at 6:30 (ET anyway) Monday through Friday. I have the DVDs, but getting the one shot episode daily is awesome.

Loved this episode. Opening was awesome and so were the things that were gossiped about. I think the writing was really good in this episode.

Pretty good, a few things from episode 1:

*Pam looks to be getting old (still sexy though)
*The Andy "gay" thing was great
*Kevin being run by controls, Jesus I'm laughing just thinking about it, by a person inside of him   makes sense!

Good start but, WTF is up with all these shows cashing in on the ametuer camera angles? Bad sighn that this kind of "structure" of show might get out of control.

I love every character in the Office, but I watch the show for Michael.  Because all the other characters have set, somewhat predictable personalities.  You never ever know what Michael is gonna do next.

This was a good intro episode, but have you noticed Ryan has kind of backed off lately?  He barely did anything in Season 5, and I almost forgot he existed in this episode.  Still, it did well to include most of the other characters, which was impressive.  Tough to include so many well-rounded characters in such a limited time frame.

Haha I watched this episode again, love it. Really funny stuff with all the rumors. And the teabag joke fit haha. LOL at kevin knowing that pam was pregnant due to her breast size. I really hope this is how the season goes.

Oh yeah, the parkour opening was genius.

This aired 4-6 weeks prior.  Coincidence???

Still, this is probably the best season opener since Season 2's "Dundies" episode.  Kevin completely stole the show for me with his conversation with Andy in the kitchen and his analysis of Pam's chest.

The other thing I loved... just when you think you've seen and heard everything, Michael Scott finds another way to make you feel more uneasy while watching him put his foot in his mouth.  It never ends! 

Good start!  Looking forward to a great season!

I don't understand how it can go for more than two seasons. The storyline was originally fairly parallel to the UK one, at the end of which the two main protagonists fall in love and get together. What happens on the US version?

Same thing, it just took much longer and now they are going on from there.

Mainly the US version went a lot further with the supporting cast, who are also more numerous.

Last night's episode started quite well I thought and then went kind of loopy with Jim's promotion and all. Opening bit was funny and so was Dwight and Toby teaming up. The whole interviewing with Jim and Wallace I felt was repetitive since Jim and Wallace have interviewed before in the end of season 3.
I'll have to watch again today.

Weeeirddd episode. I'm not sure I liked it. Although Toby and Dwight staking out Darrell's house was funny.

I was such a HUGE fan of this show in the past but it really has gotten weaker and weaker.  I used to love Michael Scott but his character is really becoming unlikeable lately.  That being said, Dwight and Toby following Daryl, and then Toby yelling at his sister was without a doubt the funniest thing I have ever seen on this show

At the end of season 3, Karen, Michael and Jim interview for a job at the Corporate branch in NY. Ryan gets that job and becomes their boss. From what I remember Jim didnt take that offer because of Pam.

Ahhh, right. As I said, unless it was something I was forgetting, which obviously I was. Thanks for the reminder.

Well me and my wife did watch season 2 & 3 over and over and over again so some of it might have stuck.

Dwight's reaction at the very end last night was priceless.  Looking forward to the wedding episode one hour special (10/8).

wow, that soon?! cant wait. last nights was good, i like how it was serious, but still had its little moments here and there, though i wasnt a huge fan of the darrel plot.

Well not sure what to think of the promotion episode. It felt a little allover the place. Micheal's drawing of Toby was awesome LOL. Opening was good.
