Well I didn't call anyone ignorant nor did I intend to come across that way. it's the whole perception of what someone types and how someone interprets it. I hate that sometimes because you can be trying to make a point and it gets lost in translation. Ugh, this is why I try to not get into these debates too much I think I fail at it, LOL! I'll just say that I love the cd so far and umm yeah.

WTF? Where is my album? Why does Canada's mail system fail so bad? Bah. God damn. Timmutin Stopped today at a local record store just for the heck of it to ask if they'd get The Wirlwind at all. "Umm.. Yeah we got it actually." "The special edition?" "Yeah. It's not supposed to be on sale yet, but.. no one has asked it and it's an import and not so mainstream so... I can sell it to you." Cost 24,90€ Around here, if I asked a record store about Transatlantic (or pretty much any Prog band, or even Zappa) they'd just be like, "lolwut? There is a new Kanye West album in. You want that instead?" Seriously, you're lucky people there actually know about good music, and actually have it in stock. /sigh

Mine didn't come in the mail today as I hoped. I ordered through Radiant Records. Not their fault. Damn post office system let me down big time. I was soooo psyched to finally listen to it today. Oh Well, nothing you can do. The waiting just kills me!!!

The record store only had the two-disc edition and not the single-disc. I wanted the two-disc one anyway, but I simply found it strange. Will listen later. :)

KirksNoseHair Yeah, I've listened a couple of times now and here are my initial impressions: I like CD1 quite a bit. But yeah, it's basically a Neal Morse solo disc with special guest musicians. Now I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but this music sounds quite a bit different from the previous two albums. I agree that Pete is a monster on this album, his bass lines are tremendous. All in all I like it, but I'm not blown away. the only track on CD2 that I find interesting is "Spinning" the rest is, meh. As of right now, I'll give it 3/5 stars. A decent comeback, but nothing earth shattering. I'd maybe go a little higher 3.5/5 but I like it alot. The song "Spinning" on disc 2 is really good, and the musicianship on the entire album is top notch. The songs just don't reach out and grab you though IMO. Even though to me, it sounds like a NM solo album, I like his solo albums better! By the way, MP really stretches it out on this record. His playing is truly awesome! Yeah, I know, what else is new! LOL

That song "Spinning" is excellent and I made sure that when I ripped all of this to my iPod for listening in the car, that I ripped that song as well. I just can't get into the rest of it, but the first CD is really, really good and more than enough to keep me interested for many months to come. Right now, the whole sequence from "Rose Colored Glasses" THROUGH "Lay Down Your Life" is kicking my ass, that's some really cool stuff right there.

emtee Also worthy of mention...the diversity of Mike's playing on the covers he's recorded this past year. I mean WOW. From Zebra, to Crimson and now an unbelievable cover of Soul Sacrifice. No one can say the man isn't diverse. I wonder if he played ALL the percussion bits on Soul Sacrifice. Absolutely!!!.... I think this may be MP's most productive year ever! Love the album more and more. ''The making of'' was very entertaining.... watched it yesterday... great fun!

Lloyd2112 WTF? Where is my album? Why does Canada's mail system fail so bad? You're in Waterloo eh? Just moved to London... Ya the mail system's terrible and same goes for our record stores for sure. I was just at one of the malls here and they didn't have The Whirlwind in stock so I had to order it. Apparently their supplier sometimes just isn't able to bring in certain items and the chick there said that this might be one of them...? Wtf. Canada sucks.
Bolus - I play keyboards, in a band, we make music, it's good when you hear it, ya. Time And Tension - more delicious prog! yum!

I've already spun the album a few times and I can't get enough of it. I think the lyrics are very powerful at times and add to the overall epic-ness of the music (ex. "This world is not our home, you can live like a rolling stone, but you cannot escape with your life") but, to each his own. I really dig the diversity in the vocals. Each person has a unique quality to their voice and it's just great to hear how well they compliment each other. The second disc is amazing as well. I think my favorite is actually the "I need you" mashup. Thanks MP, you guys really hit it out of the ballpark.

Mike's drum sound great, as usual, and I think his vocals on Salty Dog may be his strongest to date. I'm still chewing on disk 1; it takes me a while to really digest more complex music, like Neal's proggier stuff, some of DT's, and TA, of course.

megadtsbfan Got my copy today, too late in the day to hear it (my wife didn't tell me she hid the package in the basement!) I also ordered mine with the So Many Roads CD and did not receive it. I guess they couldn't live up to their promise of getting it early. I'm OK with that, as long as they send it out at some point. I let radiant know of the issue on Saturday & got a reply today saying they'd send So Many Roads asap, so nothing to worry about. As for the album, the first disc rocks, not digging the second disc too much right now (excluding Hogweed) but can see it growing on me, and I too am in the 'these lyrics bug me' boat. It's hard enough for me to tolerate the lyrics on Neal's solo albums, but I do anyway because the music is so great - ugh but hearing that lyrical content on a TransAtlantic album is making me wonder how much longer Neal's religiousness while remain tolerable to my ears. It's not like that's going to change any time soon though & I know I know it will be my loss if I decide to stop listening to Neal's projects because of the lyrics. Anyway, wasn't the winner of Mike's Whirlwind noteboard supposed to be announced today? And here's hoping for a drumcam dvd!!

GilliamsBrazil And here's hoping for a drumcam dvd!! I can almost guarantee there will be one, based on the footage in the trailer. It looks like Mike recorded the sessions, so I'd be willing to bet mabrown is already editing it as we speak.

I love it. The Whirlwind certainly doesn't feel like it's as long as it is (that's a good sign in my book) and it never let go of me once. Love it much more than the first two albums (barring Duel With The Devil). Great stuff. Time to dig into disc 2.

wow what an album!! I love 'On the Prowl' 'Is it Really Happening', 'The Wind blew them all away' and 'rose covered glasses' the best. But the whole album is great. I like the 'I Need You' cover too edit: also, mike's vocals in 'out of the night' are so cool

Does anyone in the UK have a better suggestion for ordering this? Amazon and Play are both reporting the release date as being 16th November. Anyone know why it's so late in the UK?

Long live InsideOut! That might be a good way to go for anybody who has an amazon order that keeps getting pushed back. In my experience that's a sign that you've got a pretty good chance amazon isn't really ever going to get the item you ordered and eventually it'll just be canceled. Especially if you're ordering limited edition type stuff (like the box set...)

Damn it... I ordered the 2cd+dvd version (@ amazon) but only got the 2cd version! I think it's the labels fault though.. the sticker says 2cd+dvd. Now I can't even listen to the CD because I'm supposed to return it.... sucks :-(

Amazon is so hit and miss nowadays. I try to just avoid using them. Anyhow, got my package from Radiant when I got home Monday night. And...just...WOW! I'm not usually one to rush to judgment on albums, especially when the music is so complex and will take a while to digest. But I'm ready to say this is the album of the year so far. I am just loving it. I stayed up far later than I should have Monday night watching the DVD, and it just blew my mind and made me appreciate the album and the musicians that much more.

Ok it just hit me this morning. I could be way off base here but I don't feel like I am. People have said it feels like a Neal solo cd with guest artists. My initial reaction was, are you freaking kidding me? But now I hear why. Not all of it sounds like a Neal solo cd but there are several "parts" where you get the same "formula" that the last few Neal solo albums have had. So now I totally get why people felt that way. So now I can get half a Neal solo cd feel vs. half the Transatlantic we all know. Just thought I'd chime in with this thought.

Yea after I read Kirk's comment about it sounding like Sola Scriptura I have to check back into the NM stuff since I've only heard Sola once or twice. I only followed NM upto ? and didnt really follow much after that. So Im sure my initial assessment of whirlwind sounding like NM stuff is much less than what it might actually be.

It`s £12.99 on play for the 2cd/dvd set that includes p+p,on Inside Out site it`s 19.99 Euros and you probably have to add p+p,so by delaying it by a month on Play and Amazon,we mugs cancel our orders and pay through the nose to get it sooner,Inside Out make more cash!

Got my 2CD+DVD version today from a local record store (they were stocking some more of these, not just my order :)) for 24,90 euros. They actually got it yesterday and paged me about it but I got to pick it up today due to a nasty weather... Interesting packaging, as this version has a box with a dvd on a single styled case inside and a special edition digipak as well. Bought "The Great Misdirect" by BTBAM on the same run. Also got new Sennheiser HD600 headphones yesterday. Lots of treats :)

I stopped ordering CDs from Amazon years ago because they pulled that shit on me 3 or 4 times in a row. The only thing I buy there now is digital downloads, because they can't screw you with those, you download them instantly.

Curious if the Transatlantic CD will make its way to Rhapsody (listen.com). Another venue for exposure.

I thought I'd chime in. I've given it a good 5 listens now and this is indeed an absolute masterpiece. Amazing jams, amazing melodies, and several awe-inspiring, chill-inducing moments on CD1. I am not prepared to say it's any better or worse than the first two albums, but clearly it stands up to them for sure. I still need some more time to let CD2 sink in more. Spinning is by far the best of the 4 originals tunes. I wasn't really familiar with the covers except for "I Need You"... as for "Soul Sacrifice", even if you never heard the original, you can tell within 3 seconds that this is a Santana song.. great jam and really fun to listen to MP jam to a style he's not used to playing. Overall an amazing album that I will get months of mileage out of.

Didn't really give the cd a good listen yet, since the special edition came in this afternoon but after watching the DVD, Mike, I know YOU ROCK !! I did see you and Neal perform in Gelsenkirchen last Summer and really hope you guys will tour with Transatlantic and come to Holland again. That would be so awesome Thanks so much for doing this album ! Caroline

Amazing album, the DVD and bonus disc are a really nice addition too. The packaging is also very nice. It sounds fresh but still really has that Transatlantic sound that I love. I think this might even be my favorite TA album. Greaaat stuff.

Gotta wait til November 16 th here in the UK. Can anyone 'in the know' shed any light please? I guess it's down to distribution, etc, then the postal backlog due to the strikes will probably delay it further.....

I completely love the entire package. I went back and watched the DVD again last night. Looks like they had a lot of fun making this incredible music in such a short period of time. Thanks Guys!

Amazon.com now has the 2 CD version for 15.99 if anyone is considering to buy it. Thats a good deal if you get the free shipping option.

Haha I've always taken the free shipping and it has thankfully never taken me more than 5 days max to receive any CD or DVD ordered. Thats probably why I continue to order from them.

Same here cause I'm a cheap bastard. Latest order was for a pre-order of TSO Night Castle and The Pineapple Thief 3000 Days. I received them yesterday (one day after the release date for the TSO CD). I have no issues with Amazon - I've had much worse service from many other online retailers.

You guys are lucky, I will never, ever, under any circumstances of any kind, purchase a CD from Amazon again. They screwed me several times and the last time (with Systematic Chaos) was the last straw for me. They are THE ONLY online retailer that I've had those kind of problems with.

Seriously, WTF? What is Canada Post doing with all of the fucking Transatlantic albums? It shouldn't take this long for anything to get anywhere, and I'm starting to get annoyed. Especially since it's almost the weekend (again) and there is no fucking mail on weekends, so I'll have to wait until Monday... but it probably won't get here then either because Canada Post is lame. God. I could probably walk to Neal's house and ask him for a copy of the album and then walk back before it gets here. Bah.

I only got through Disc 1 so far, but it is truly a work of art. Great job, Mike and gang. I want to just say that that specifically the last 20 minutes (parts 11 and 12) are monumental...just a huge, monstrous, emotional, melodic, epic (yes, epic) that has everything you could ask for. Can't wait 'till I get about 4 or 5 more spins...gonna pop in Disc 2 tonight!

Just finished my second spin of Disc 1. My first listen I was not reallyy digging it, but the second time, it clicked. I really like this album. Gonna need a few more spins to really take it all in, but TA has released another masterpiece. I also really dig their take on The Beatles "I Need You" on Disc 2. Thats one of my favorite (and overlooked) Beatles songs.

Overall I really like Disc 1. I like Spinning on Disc 2 but not much else. The Whirlwind is a very nice track. The spiritual overtones don't bother me much as they don't feel much stronger than some SB material. I don't really feel like it's a NM solo album though as I do hear the input from Roine quite all over the place. Although to be fair I haven't really listened to a NM solo album since I listened to the first one he did after he left SB and it just wasn't my thing. I'm a huge Genesis fan and I would say that the Hogweed cover is decent. I do like that Mike went nuts at the end as Phil often did, although I don't think anything can measure up to the performance on Genesis Live (by Phil and the rest of the band). Something about the power and feel of that always gives me goose bumps. I'm a bit surprised that it seems that Neal didn't realize that Gabriel wasn't just screaming the last few lines, there are actually lyrics and they are "GIANT HOGWEED LIVES!".
