Seems like it's the extended version of Solitary Shell right? Or have they left the stage for the encore? =/

All jokes aside, killer setlist.  I was at the tour opener in Miami and I was absolutely flabbergasted by the Count of Tuscany nevermind ANTR and AROP.  new stuff is absolutely perfect.

I am dying for Dance of Eternity in Wallingford next week.  First DT show for me was August 2002 with Satch and we had the Instrumedley.  If I can possibly ever hear Dance of Eternity proper (con or sans keyboard solo), nevermind the fuckers who got it with One Last Time (FUCKING KILLER), I will dance for eternity in heaven or hell or on earth.

GIVE IT TO ME.

As I am a chump and my first DT show was SUMMER 2002, I am dreaming of Burning My Soul 96 or Another Hand/Killing Hand with the 'Carol of the Bells' excerpt in the jam.

Lots to look forward to in the next 2 weeks like memorization of rifs and lyrics and drum beats.  Raising the bar, raising the knife.

Would absolutely love to see this set list in Minneapolis, but even better if you take out Sacrificed Sons and insert The Killing Hand! Either way its going to be amazing as it always is!

ATL show was un-freaking-believable!!!

My 1st time seeing DT live, and getting to stand in front of greatness for over 90min, as well as meet them (and fist-bump 2 of the guys!)

Well worth the extra $

Can't wait to see em' again!

The setlists are really cool so far!
Since I'm not a 8v and SC fanatic they could've played other songs for Prophets Of War and Sacrificed Sons, but you can't always get what you want.
But for my taste the setlist would be killer, if they would replace Sacrificed Sons with Metropolis and leave Prophets Of War and The Count Of Tuscany out and would play A Change Of Seasons instead. I'd always take a setlist as it is at a DT-concert and I REALLY LIKE The Count Of Tuscany, but I'd love to hear A Change Of Seasons in its entire

The concert was UNFREAKINGBELIEVABLE last night!!!! I got to here TDOE and TCOT! My life is now complete, haha!

MAN it was a good show! And as far as the JR solo spot, it wasn't even like he did a long solo... I would say it lasted maybe 2 or 3 minutes and then went right into Sacrificed Sons, which totally ROCKED!

Absolutely amazing setlist and amazing bands as well! ZPZ was incredible and so was Scale The Summit. I wasn't too fond of Bigelf...
What an incredible show that was!!

I could see that point of view.  There is a 3:00+ lull in TCOT from 11:00 on.  Similar to parts of Octavarium.

I can tell you what's going to happen already. The philly show is going to get voices/erotomania, but since columbia is so close, they won't get those songs the next day.

The show was indeed incredible. James was amazing! That is becoming the common comment on his performances! James, you are the man! I like your little tent behind JP's cabinet wall.

I took about 150 pics of which 50-60 are pretty darned good. We were in the balcony stage right and had unobstructed views of MP's monster and JR's keyboard world. JM was standing right there the entire night.
I swear that JP knew that I (and only me) was trying to take some good pics of him and seemed to move out of the way everytime I tried to catch him.

I will go through the pics and post them sometime today in their own thread.

God, please let them come through on another US tour leg and play here in Atlanta again as a normal headlining show? Thank you God!

Thanks MP, JR, JP, JM and JLB! You guys are the best! Zappa Plays Zappa was really incredible also. They could have played another hour and I would not have cared. The other two were interesting, especially BigElf. Interesting showmanship and sounds from them.

That's great Solitary Glen! I believe I was on the opposite side of you on stage left right by JP. Haha! I took a video of The Dance Of Eternity that I posted in an earlier thread if you wanna check it out. Here's the link.

Glen, there was a dude up there near you in a white shirt who was one of the best air drummers I've ever seen and another shirtless dude who was headbangin' the entire time. They got their $$$ worth.
It was another good performance....the highlight for me was definitely Tuscany. EXCELLENT encore choice, the last few minutes gave me chills. TDOE was also fanastic. On the downside, Prophets of War didn't translate as well live as I had hoped and I just can't hear Mike's or John's background vocals to save my life. As far as JR's spot, it wasn't too long. The first minute with the continuum was stupid wankery, but then he went to the keys and I really liked what he did with that. I have a love/hate w/ JR.
Zappa's muscianship was stunning, they were extraordinarily cohesive. Thanks for bringing them out Mike, I had a learning experience last night.

LOL...exactly where was this dude in the white shirt? Was he in the very corner on the top row? If so, that was me! LOL Seriously, I wanted to ask that guy to put his shirt back on. It wasn't pretty.

Re:OFFICIAL: 2009 / 2010 World Tour Setlists (SPOILER ALERT) - Wednesday, July 29, 2009 4:19 PM
Either I have listened to way too many bootlegs, I have just seen them too many times (Saturday's Prog Nation show will be #15), I have been unlucky with the shows I have seen in terms of song selection or I may need to just step away from seeing them live until they have more new material that I connect better with, but I will be the first to say I am pretty disappointed so far in the PN setlists.

With my understanding that they are doing a separate headlining tour next year, to devote nearly half of the set to new material is a bit much (even though I do find myself enjoying the new album a lot more than the previous four studio efforts).

The older songs that have been in rotation so far are dampening my anticipation as well. Part of that is clearly me - the amount of material I like in the back catalog is severely limited to the albums up to and including SFAM, and a random song here and there through SC. But at the same time, it feels like in some ways they are falling back to a very limited number of older tunes (Hollow Years, Erotomania, Voices) that get a lot of live rotation, yet in my 14 previous shows, I have seen some songs performed once and a handful never performed (6:00 is the first that comes to mind, A Fortune in Lies is another one I seem to miss whenever it is in rotation on a given tour). I will be pulling a setlist chart to get a sense of what I have seen because now I am curious if it is just the shows I have been to or the bootlegs that I tend to listen to that have me feeling uninterested in the setlist as a whole because of a perceived repetition from just looking at the song titles.

The other thing that has me feeling blah about this show is the presence of PoW and SS. For PoW, I think it is cool that the song is now getting exposure when it didn't make any appearance on the SC tour. It is a song that I don't particularly like, though I am interested to see how it comes across live.

The other is Sacrificed Sons. I respect it as a tribute and find it to be an emotionally compelling song and I give props for the band in recording it. But at the Score show, the first time I saw it live, it was a complete buzz kill for me and by that point, I lost all interest in being at that show (which was redeemed only by the absolutely stellar Metropolis encore). Watching the news footage on the screens brought back too many memories of day I will never forget but at the same time don't ever want to relive again, especially at a rock concert where I am escaping the real world for a few hours. And unfortunately, I can see this song being played on Saturday, especially considering the 8V tour did not have a DC-area stop and it was not played either in Baltimore during the SC tour or at the DC stop of Prog Nation last year.

I am sure I will enjoy the show overall, but I can't say I am very excitied to see it...

Well, sorry you feel that way. But I will give you mad props for a very well thought out explanation of a negative opinion. Seriously, it was a sincere expression without any harsh bashing or slamming of any kind (compared to some posts which are like "This setlist SUCKS ASS!!", etc.)

I felt a little overaturated/overexposed/burnt out in a way with the music from about a year ago, so I decided to take a break from listening to most everything of their's.   Iwill be refreshed with any shows I see this time around, having just listened to the new CD and covers for the most part.  All my favorite bands I burn out on, and then I step back.

Well, sorry you feel that way. But I will give you mad props for a very well thought out explanation of a negative opinion. Seriously, it was a sincere expression without any harsh bashing or slamming of any kind (compared to some posts which are like "This setlist SUCKS ASS!!", etc.)

Thanks for the compliment. I really don't have anything to bash. I was more reflecting on my own personal experiences with DT live (first hand as well as through bootlegs) trying to get a sense as to why I am not feeling as excitied as I should be, especially with such a strong line-up for the show overall. I know the band will put on a stunning live performance, which is among the reasons why I still like to go see them live and am hoping something will click to turn it all around once I am in the moment...

BTW, Prophets of War came across very nicely live! The crowd knew exactly what to do and thank god for MP having the lyrics on the big screen because I couldn't remember them. But you could definitely hear the crowd singing and it was pretty spectacular!

I agree Glen. I was not a fan of it really on SC, but it came across good live, especially the ending.

I do however respectfully disagree with.....(putting on flame suit).....enjoying Zappa Plays Zappa. First and foremost- I have tons of respect for Dweezil, and everyone in the band, they are all tremendously talented and they were in fact very very tight. It just wasnt my cup of tea, and got old after 15 minutes. 2 things I was just amazed by- 1, there were times were Dweezil didnt play for 3-4 minutes, and he just stood there looking like a lost puppy! Dude, go off stage and take a break for a few, dont just stand there looking at the floor of the stage waiting to join back in! I think Myung moves around more that Dweezil did. And 2, what's with his minor league first base coach signals to the batter that he was giving the band for cues?!?! Could he not have come up with something better ?! Everyone around me was making jokes about it!

I can't really say anything about the Atlanta show that has not already been said. It was awesome...one of the best shows I've seen. Take the Time was my favorite part because that is one of my favorite DT songs ever.

"They just opened with A Nightmare To Remember"

And

"Dream Theater preforming Constant Motion in Ashville"

they did open with ANTR, i do think they played constant motion, erotomania, voices, hollow years, count of tuscany, with metropolis as the closer. I am sure i am forgetting one or more. just walked in and my brain is still buzzing from the greatness i witnessed.

took my 11 year old son for his first show. third row. he was blown away.

Setlist ashvillle:

ANTR
Constant Motion
Beyond This Life -- extended Jam
Piano Solo
Erotomania - some definite hardware problems with Johns rig on this tune.
Voices
Hollow Years
The Count of Tuscany
Metropolis - extended Jam

This setlist kick ass, and was a nice variation.

I was happy to see sacrificed sons, but I can certainly understand the buzz killing nature of the tune, especially at RCMH.  I hope that they play everything that your heart desires. Sincerly. I left tampa, and after three shows they had nearly fullfilled my list of "songs i have to see before i cash in my chips" All that really remains is HOME.

Seeing Metropolis all the way thru just makes me realize that medley schmedleys really do suck.

the JR solo spot was a bit different tonight - when he went into Sacrificed sons, it was much more melodic and classical sounding. Tonight, as the prelude to Voices it seemed more techno.
I also prefer his softer touch. Think BLIND FAITH Solo.

Damnit!  I would kill to see the Beyond this Life jam.  Very good setlist so far.  Wish DT would tour by themselves so I can see slightly longer shows, but oh well...

I also agree that I hate the medleys.  Sorry.  I don't mind the Learning to Live/Change of Seasons ending, but I was real sour about "Schmedely Wilcox" and how I felt cheated out of a bunch of great songs.

It was a pretty good show last night...I'm not gonna knock it too much, seeing as how it was DT's first show in NC....Jame's voice seemed a little low in the mix to me....And I wasn't a big fan of some of the animated stuff they showed on the screen, I much preferred the camera close-ups of the guys.....It's been 9 years since I've seen them, and me and DT aren't as close as we once were, but I'm still glad I saw them.

I bailed during Count of Tuscany....Just don't like that song...Hate I missed Metropolis, but that's the gamble you run....

I've decided that Dream Theater needs to play at some other venue other than the Tabernacle, I think they've about outgrown it. They should look into playing at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater or something.

I'm secretly hoping for "The best of times" in Calgary or Edmonton.  But since they have yet to play it live, and considering Mike's comments about the personal connection and that it's going to be tough for him to play it live...  I don't think THAT's going to happen...

I'll settle for Count of Tuscany and Nightmare to Remember though  ;-)

I'm glad to see that both are being played.

I've seen DT live on just about every tour (with the exception of Scenes) and though I enjoy the "classics", I'd love to see as much new material as possible...  (Ministry of Lost Souls would be nice... Though it isn't "new", it's one of my favs that I have not yet seen live)

I think the earliest time they'll play it will be the 2010-tour.
But who knows...
But come on... To see ANTR and TCOT live isn't too bad...

Amen, I was the Tabernacle last year and this year both, and it's been incredibly crowded and packed both times. A bigger place would be awesome

The Düsseldorf show is kind of a fixed date for me...

But since I don´t know where I will move to at the beginning of Octobre (I´m starting University) it´ll be Hamburg or Frankfurth...

What about your plans?
