Not really my cup of tea... although I'm more than excited bout the new album, this pic is just too... gothic imho. Still, I'm anxious to see the other new promo pics.

And it's, overall, a pretty dark picture.  Doesn't look like (mostly) the band who recorded Surrounded, Another Day, Innocence Faded, Anna Lee etc

That's definitely their slickest promo picture to date - very much with the cover art theme.  I love it!  Now someone just needs to come up with another animated gif of them doing the head bob!  I had the Systematic Chaos head bob promo pic as my background for quite a while.

I'm also LOVING the promo pix for the Devin Townsend Project on his new MySpace, although Dev's looking a hell of a lot like Jay (of Jay and Silent Bob fame) in the pictures, which I find rather hilarious.

for some reason..................it makes me think of Metalocolypse.

Holy shit, MP looks BADASS. That is a dark pic but really fucking cool.

Maybe they made a deal with JM that if they all straighten their hair for this album that he'll shave his head for the next one.   But I do like it.  If there was a viking ship it would like something Amon Amarth would do.

Makes me think the album is gothic, dark, heavy and full of hard core metal. This could be a good thing depending on who you are.

Overall picture = yes, it looks darker than the DT we used to know... Let's see if it really represents their new sound. If it does, I think I'm gonna like it, but I can understand that some people won't.

Gothic= jet black died hair, black nails, deathly white/pale makeup or appearence and gothic styled jewlery. (atleats thats what a Goth person looks like to me)
 
In the opinion of many, it just looks as though MP either thinned his hair out, or straightened it.

Im glad JLB is still rocking the facial hair.  I know appearances don't mean everything for die hard fans like us.  But I saw on Food Detectives that ambiance makes the meal taste better.  So in that sense, a more bad ass look might make his vocals more tolerable to new(and some current) fans, as well as the rest of the band. 

And if it's something Roadrunner had in mind as far as trying to make them more palatable to the "mainstream" culture then that's fine with me.  At least they are on a label that's trying to market them.  As long as the music stays within the DT formula.

It's a fantastic picture, looks really good.

This is Hugh Syme's art style.... he's been doing this for years.
Yes, it's very dark but that's part of the whole concept/design behind BC&SL.

I can't believe we've got into another discussion about hair... what the hell's going on here?! What have you done with all the geeks?!

It seems like there is some pressure from the label to have a more marketable image, in tune with the other Roadrunner bands. That picture is very a generic looking, stereotypical metal-band promo shot. It doesn't really seem like the Dream Theater I know and love, but it isn't a big deal. I only really care about the music, and I know that they'd never let the label significantly influence what they do in the studio- especially after what they went through with FII and so on.

It was time, I felt, for an Agonizing Reappraisal of the whole scene.

Jesus guys, it's just a picture....
