It's not about how they look, it's about what the picture represents.
It isn't actually just 5 guys standing there.
What are they saying with their faces? What's the colour and the shape of the picture really communicating? What emotions do the colours and shapes convey? Is it inconsistent and unstable thematically or is it focused and intense? Dull and blunt, or sharp and convoluted? Think about it.
Am I over-analysing? I don't think so, I think these are things the photographer would have wanted to communicate. Alot of thought goes into this sort of design stuff, and for the moment this and the cover art is all we really have until an actual song is released... So to write it off as unimportant and trivial is more offensive and ignorant than saying how it makes you feel, IMO.
Yes, it might be unfair to make judgements and to have pre-conceived ideas about the music based on this picture...
But it's not really a stretch to make assumptions. And this is a discussion board... So I think as long as it's done respectfully we should be able to say what the picture makes us feel and what it represents and how that affects our anticipation of the album.
