Because I do like it.

what is that song again.........oh yeah "Never Enough". Everytime DT does something be it a CD,DVD,Picture, or Tour people have to be so critical. We should be so lucky to have a band that is willing to do some pretty cool things for their fans.
It could be a ton worse. DT could be like QR and lie to us all the time and treat us like a piece of crap instead of the people who give them an outlet to make music.
I'm sorry but I'm tired of always seeing these posts every time something new comes from the DT camp.

I saw the pic and i like it, cause well, its a freaking Promo pic of DT, whats not to like. So what if it seems like "hardcore" image or gothic look. its a pic, like MP said, LOL. I dig it. Fits well with the title, at least the background. and its METAL AS FUCK.

Well, and I'm f*cking tired of hearing that song quoted all the time. To each his own. I am a long time DT fan since the Awake days and I am of course excited about the new album. In the picture that was posted they look like a power metal band, so how can you NOT make assumptions? As for "never getting enough" of DT.... well, 2 years after the release of SC I have gotten well enough of that album!
 
I think criticism should be allowed, it's not like I am personally attacking any of the band members...

I was hoping Mike would touch on Roadrunner's involvement with the moves DT make. I was kinda getting sick of hearing what RR is doing the band, and the direction it's taking them. It's great to hear how wonderful RR has really been.

It's easily the coolest DT photo I've ever seen.  I'm kind of surprised that some people didn't like it.

Summary:

-Misunderstanding in my other post. RR pushing their image, not their music. I stand corrected by Mike.
-DT are not Trivium. Not what I expected from a DT photoshoot.
-I agree with all - picture doesn't matter, music is what matters. I'm still effing excited for the new album.

Ink, I seem to have lost a post as well... it's been eaten by the bit bucket now, but like yours it was an admission that the assumption I made regarding RR's influence on the band was incorrect. That assumption was probably rude, as well- in any case, my post wasn't a criticism of the band or of Mike (can't speak for some others). I just saw similarities between the style of that photo and the ubiquitous "metal band stance", and figured the record company was a factor.

Thanks for clarifying the relationship with RR, Mike. After reading Lifting Shadows, I can imagine it must be nice having a supportive label and that kind of freedom.

I can only agree with MP. The fact that the can do what they want is an extreme thing to be able to do in this business. Still the fotoshot has a cool vibe and i´m digging it. Hopefully they won´t release any more material until June 23rd, just so I stay calm.

People are certainly entitled to voice their opinions, but getting upset over a photo is just plain silly.  I think it's a cool picture and I can't really visualise the sort of photo some people would want to see.  Like someone earlier in the thread said, would it be all butterflies and flowers? 

DT are a metal band...  Sure, they're not your average metal band, but they still have that aspect to their sound and I don't see the problem with having a kind of "metal" promo picture of them.

Mike looks "old" on that pic. Rest of the band looks OK, though JP should loose that straightened hair. I think it looks pretty bad.

Really? I think Mike looks great in that picture. Not so sure about the two Johns, they do seem old
(and yes, it has a lot to do with the hair and I should really stop posting in such ridiculous threads...).

Bro, I don't know how long you've been reading around here, but this ALWAYS happens.  I've never seen more dudes concerned about what other dudes look like in my life!!!!!

I think the promo pic looks cool and it fits the mood of the album cover. It's maybe just that we haven't been used to seeing promo for DT before Roadrunner so it seems a bit weird in a way. After all, it's a great thing that they finally have a label that actually stands behind them.

I've seen my fair share of ridiculous threads with completely over the top criticism and conclusion-jumping...but man, this one may take the cake!!!!!!!!! 
 
First of all, IT'S A FREAKING PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!
You know that expression "don't judge a book by its cover"??
But anyway....THIS IS HOW WE LOOK!!!

Second of all, nobody (ie. Roadrunner) is telling us how to do ANYTHING..... 
Roadrunner didnt hear a single note off the album til we delivered it last week....I chose the photographer for the photo shoot (and the director for the video and the bands who will tour with us...)
 
The label has been 1000% supportive of our decisions, direction and anything else we bring to the table and you guys should be grateful to them for giving us the outlet to do what we do (and look how we want to look, etc.) with nothing but support....
 
And some people wonder why I don't release any info before the album comes out!! 
 
(But yes, I still love you guys anyway...)

Like I said before, and I'll say it again...EVERYTHING DT has EVER done has been and will always be incredibly BADASS!!!!!

It's not about how they look, it's about what the picture represents.
It isn't actually just 5 guys standing there.
What are they saying with their faces? What's the colour and the shape of the picture really communicating? What emotions do the colours and shapes convey? Is it inconsistent and unstable thematically or is it focused and intense? Dull and blunt, or sharp and convoluted? Think about it.

Am I over-analysing? I don't think so, I think these are things the photographer would have wanted to communicate. Alot of thought goes into this sort of design stuff, and for the moment this and the cover art is all we really have until an actual song is released... So to write it off as unimportant and trivial is more offensive and ignorant than saying how it makes you feel, IMO.

Yes, it might be unfair to make judgements and to have pre-conceived ideas about the music based on this picture...
But it's not really a stretch to make assumptions. And this is a discussion board... So I think as long as it's done respectfully we should be able to say what the picture makes us feel and what it represents and how that affects our anticipation of the album.

It is a promo picture, whose purpose is to get people to talk about the band.

Seems like its working to me.
