SC's promo pics were awesome. That one is... meh.

where the hell do you get Gothic from????
 
Gothic= jet black died hair, black nails, deathly white/pale makeup or appearence and gothic styled jewlery. (atleats thats what a Goth person looks like to me)
 
In the opinion of many, it just looks as though MP either thinned his hair out, or straightened it.
 
Or it could just be slightly wet??? who knows.

Infact, I actually think it's a pretty horrible picture. Like, it LOOKS good... but that's just not Dream Theater.

I think it's metal.  Not much different than the back of ACOS, just a dark sky.

Im glad JLB is still rocking the facial hair.  I know appearances don't mean everything for die hard fans like us.  But I saw on Food Detectives that ambiance makes the meal taste better.  So in that sense, a more bad ass look might make his vocals more tolerable to new(and some current) fans, as well as the rest of the band. 

And if it's something Roadrunner had in mind as far as trying to make them more palatable to the "mainstream" culture then that's fine with me.  At least they are on a label that's trying to market them.  As long as the music stays within the DT formula.

It's just a picture guys, and it is getting us talking so it's doing its job. I like it but I admit it isn't for everyone.

This is Hugh Syme's art style.... he's been doing this for years.
Yes, it's very dark but that's part of the whole concept/design behind BC&SL.

It seems like there is some pressure from the label to have a more marketable image, in tune with the other Roadrunner bands. That picture is very a generic looking, stereotypical metal-band promo shot. It doesn't really seem like the Dream Theater I know and love, but it isn't a big deal. I only really care about the music, and I know that they'd never let the label significantly influence what they do in the studio- especially after what they went through with FII and so on.

I like how a lot of the people who claim not to care about how DT looks are the same people who complain about how DT looks
