i think this image can tell us very clearly the intentions of the next and new album... darker and more angressive...

its an hint i think of what is coming with the album... its going to be bad ass indeed... no questions about it... looks cool by the way, i think for the metal heads like me the next album will kick our minds out... for the progressive people maybe will happend just like the train of thought...

but this is dream theater... is our favorite band or one of our favorites... lets give them the chance to do what they know better do: music... Great music, art in sound... no more but never less...

I don't care how they look - it's how they play that matters; although, that being said, there are other genres in which how you look directly informs how you play - punk, for example, or black metal - but I think this pic is meant to tie into the album title and cover concept, and we might see another promo picture at some point which ties into the 'silver lining' part of the title. Not that they'll necessarily look happy in said picture, but maybe at least they won't all be dressed in nothing but black.

Can't wait for my birthday - June 23rd! - and the release of what will likely be my favorite album of the year. I love this band.

This, pretty much. Mike looks "old" on that pic. Rest of the band looks OK, though JP should loose that straightened hair. I think it looks pretty bad.

As mentioned before this doesn´t really represent DT, but hey it´s just a picture. Mike looks like he just stepped out of the shower, a bit cool though. Anywho, bottom line: Let´s not judge music from picture.

How can you really judge that heavily on a picture so small?
Anyway I agree it's just a promo picture and to me it's not that bad, although I'm not fan of the straightened hair look.

My concern is that it's a very generic tryhard "grrr, look how hard we look" metal lineup picture.

Save that for Trivium and the like, DT is above that.

Um, no, I didn't. Read what I said. This is the kind of picture I would expect from a band like Trivium or Shadows Fall (both of whom have either been on or are currently on Roadrunner, incidentally). They're standing there looking all angry, with a dark background and everything swathed in black. It's reminiscent of this photo:



That's a random Shadows Fall promo photo I pulled off Google, but the style and the poses of the band members are the same; the difference is that DT are above this kind of ridiculous 'hardcore' image, or at least they used to be.

Having said that, I know I'm about to get eaten alive by fanboys, so that's the last I'm going to say on this topic.

I also don't think they're trying to look badass. Well, James is, I can't really deny that. But I see 4 different expressions on the other guys. And as it's been said before, it's just a picture. Every album has pictures that go along with the title or theme. Notice the light whisps of "cloud" in the foreground? This album is no different, so get over it.

^nothing is wrong with saying you don't like the pic. The problem is when people do it in an distasteful manner or make false inferences ie that RR had something to do with it/controls DT in some way(which I was guilty of)... if you dont like it why is it your desktop?!?! LOL

that is awesome that RR did not hear a note until MP dropped it off to them... I guess RR is smart enough to realize DTs rabid following  will eat up whatever they put out and that the boys have proven over a few decades that they know what the hell they're doing.

On another note, I am so glad I am not famous or have people watching/critiquing what I do all the time. I would go fucking insane. But that is the way it goes when you're famous today.
