An elephant with a brush that painted the all seeing eye and are afraid of a mice (LOL)? and crow ? Planets? A clear reference of influences of this album, just like MP said? "Imagine a DT album with A Change Of Seasons, Octavarium, Learning To Live, Pull Me Under and The Glass Prison....all on one album.... " Cant wait!!! Surprise me!

Cool news. It will be interesting to hear this new one after, (to me) somewhat disappointing SC. I like the coverart, btw!

What an excellent thing to see when I first check into the forum. As per usual when Dream Theater announces a new album date, album artwork, and album tracklisting, I am ridiculously excited. This is going to be tremendous, I'm sure, especially when I think back to when Portnoy gave a description of what the album might sound like. From the "AWAKE" similarities on the artwork to the very interesting song titles, this is for sure going to be a surprising and likely epic release. June 23rd can not come soon enough for this 12-year die-hard fan!

Eh. It is hard for me to feel any excitement just yet, given how much I do not connect on any level with the last four studio efforts. Hopefully this will be the release that brings me back into the fold...

stratomailer The Count Of Tuscany? Seriously? I thought the same thing. I hope that doesn't mean more vampire/monster/AD&D lyrics. On another note, it's cool to see them covering Styx. (waits to see if anyone gets the joke)... I have to say though, I'm looking forward to hearing how this album might go!

Yes, the cover looks cool. Yes, I like the 3 CD package thing. But people, let's not give this either a five star or a one star review based on what we know now. The songs are what matters. And ShadowWalker, you're telling us that you haven't connected to anything on SDOIT, TOT, 8VM, or SC?? MAY be able to kinda understand the last three, but nothing on SDOIT does it for you? Wow!

If the lyrics to The Count of Tuscany resemble the title in any shape or form, that is borderline self parody. However, I am excited and the artwork is awesome.

Am I missing something here? Why would the lyrics to The Count of Tuscany be fantasy/monsters/SC-like? Couldn't it be about a regular guy, who happens to be a count in Touscany? I don't see how that can bother you.

citametsys soahc Why would the lyrics to The Count of Tuscany be fantasy/monsters/SC-like? My guess is people automatically think of Count Dracula and thus anyone else who has the title of "Count" must be paranormal. It's a stupid way of thinking. Here's to hoping it has to do more with a tally than an actual person....

Ghost Writer And ShadowWalker, you're telling us that you haven't connected to anything on SDOIT, TOT, 8VM, or SC?? MAY be able to kinda understand the last three, but nothing on SDOIT does it for you? Wow! I consider SDOIT to be the turning point of where DT lost me. On just about every song, I find myself either reaching for the FF button to move more quickly through meandering instrumental passages that, in my opinion, feel completely disjointed from the main parts of the song, or I just skip completely. It is also the point where, again in my opinion, the disconnect between the music and lyrics became really evident, with much to much emphasis on the former and the latter starting to become almost an afterthought (a perception that grows greater with each release). As much as I enjoyed the LTE sessions (and how some of that spirit translated into a very solid SFAM), taking that recording style and applying it to DT for the most part has been a failure as far as it related to my perception and enjoyment of the band's output (though I clearly get that I am in the minority of this opinion if growing record sales and concert attendance are to be a gauge for how the band is performing overall). It is no coincidence that the only song from the last four albums that I really enjoy is Stream of Consciousness. It is fair to mention in the context of this commentary that I do believe while the studio tracks from Train of Thought are laborious for me to listen to, I thought they translated well to the live setting and I quite enjoy listening to my acquired boots from that tour, so maybe all is not lost. But in general, the last four studio albums are essentially dust collectors on my CD shelf.

Am I the only one suprised by the fact that there are no references in all the titles to this beeing DT's tenth studio album? Besides the fact that I can't wait till 23 june to hear the whole 3 disc set, I can't wait to hear the final part in the AA saga. It's going to be a long wait for me!

I may be crazy, and I ask the DT members to forgive me for assuming things, but I'm wagering "the Count of Tuscany" might be an instrumental? Just a hunch.

Curious rather than excited. There will be moments on the album that I will enjoy, just like on all of their CDs. I would be highly surprised if it lasts longer than a day in my rotation, but tastes differ. They're very Power Metal song titles, but that's the direction they seem to be going, since they've essentially become a Progressive Power Metal band. I just REALLY hope this album is under the 60 minute mark. None of your 78 minute stuff this time around, pleeeeeeeease.
