DREAM THEATER - BLACK CLOUDS & SILVER LININGS - Coming June 23rd!

THAT is sooooo awesome!!!  I love the album art!!!  As others have said...  it totally looks like Awake-era art.... which is when I got into the band!!!

Now PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come to Calgary (or even better, to Edmonton) again for this tour!!!!!

For me, the Dark Master bits are a little bit of a guilty pleasure.  They're cheesy as Hell, but still awesome.

When it comes in with the big JR string sound, it's just badass.

I'm not specifically talking about any one person, I just think people around here in general dig too far into some of this stuff.  I love speculation just as much as any of you guys, I'm sure.  And golly gee, I'm excited for this album.  But whether or not a mouse has a shadow, or if a tripod is actually a quad-pod, or if the door has no knob, or if your grandmother was an elephant, it makes no difference to the music that is on the album.  Sorry to be a party-pooper, but come on dudez. 
Also, I'm with whoever (I think it was Ink) said that just because the album cover resembles Awake's cover doesn't mean the music will sound anything like Awake.

This times 10 billion plus an additional 1300 million for the infinite win that shall never be overturned.

Okay, so how 'bout a little analysis of the AWESOME album cover.

the FOUR LEGGED (weird) easel with the all seeing eye painted by the elephant (judging by the paint brush) on it has one too many leg shadows (there are five shadows coming off the legs).

The liquor bottle (obvious an AA reference) and the mouse (which is scaring the elephant onto a stack of books) do not have shadows.

Shadows seem to important (maybe the songs will shed some light, hehe, get it?).

Also, as others have mentioned, four moons, four books, four kegs on the easel, and not so importantly four animals (if you count the kid) . So is four a symbol too?

I love this album cover, it's such a throw back to The Floyd (and Awake too).

OMFG!!!!! I was in the shop working last friday, when my man sent me the following text message:

and I was "What the hell? Those are freaking intriguing titles" then I received a picture with the artwork and I was absolutely blown away. And I think I started running around for the joy. Besides, it will be out on 23rd June, and FIVE DAYS after that, DT will be in Italy to perform! That's amazing!

Really looking forward to this album. The artwork is sick too. I hope I can make it to June 23rd without hearing any of the songs but you know how temptation works. I've only heard boht the drum preview and the teaser Mike played on the radio the other day and honestly I won't judge it until I hear the whole thing. I really liked the last part that JLB sang something like "half away" but let's see how this one goes.

Aah, the awesomeness ensues. I'm very excited for this, especially since it will be my first time buying a new Dream Theater album when it is released. I need to make sure I have to the money to preorder this. Hopefully somewhere is offering sexy bonuses, that'd be omegawesome.

I put my name on MSN to Black Clouds & Silver Linings and I don't plan on changing it until the album comes out. This is coming from a guy who usually changes it at LEAST once a week.

I'm the same.  Once I saw the title and artwork of the latest Bad Religion album, they were my personal message and display on MSN until the album came out.  Same with the latest Black Mages album. 

And I'm doing the same with the new DT album  ^_^

I hope they'll make a double CD jewel case with the third cd in a paper sleeve, like the Neal Morse Testimony SE.

If it would be cardboard case like LSFNY where do you want to put the liner notes?

I would not want the special edition ruined by a card sleeve with the discs falling all over the place (like 3discs live albums). The music matters of course, but for me the artwork and package also counts.

I agree. I hope they don't ruin the 3-disc set by issuing it in a chintzy cardboard case. I don't usually have a problem with the discs falling out of them, but I do have a problem with the discs getting scratched as I remove and reinsert them. I also hate the way the artwork begins to wear practically as soon as you remove the wrapping. I definitely hope they don't go that cheap-ass cardboard route.

as for the instrumentals, I'll definitely be posting my tributes to JLB.  but I have a question for you guys...

is it better to sing completely like you want to and be an individual?   or is better to honor Labrie and sing in his style the best you can? 

im honestly struggling w/ this because while i do have a TON of labrie influence in my singing, i also have a lot of modern influence in that area.  suggestions and thoughts are welcome

im also even questioning whether i should do something like this in the first place...i would never want to disrespect JLB and especially DT as a whole.  obviously as others can attest to on this forum, they're everything to me musically!

The album cover is really promising, it really is very reminiscent of that old school IAW/Awake style artwork. I know that doesn't mean the album will sound similar, but it's still pretty cool. I haven't been that into DT's newer albums, but I'm always interested in hearing what they come up with.

I thought the name of the album was just OK...until I saw the cover art! The cover definitely makes the title that much more intriguing and exciting!

The song titles of course sound very interesting (Especially The Count of Tuscany). Because Mike said this album will be like having A Change of Seasons and Octavarium (among the other titles) I'm blown away by the prospect of having two majorly epic songs one one album! Given there are only six songs, it is safe to assume there will be!

The special edition sounds amazing! I love instrumentals, so this pretty much doubles the amount of new songs for me! I also can't wait to hear what the six covers will be!

Truly an amazing release and I thank Dream Theatre for always doing new things (i.e. double disc release for 6DoIT and Making of DVD on SC). Suffice to say, buying the special edition is a no brainer!

thats one of the reasons i love roadrunner...they get all the albums in special edition format...its only with DT that they release them in the begininng itself and not months later like with killswitch , slipknot etc

the do have a warmer tone to them for sure. but you only get the truest vinyl quality if the source was recorded to tape originally.

I have lots of older albums on vinyl that sound 'warmer', better, but these days you need to spend quite a bit on a decent turntable.

Vinyl sounds 'warmer' because it has more dynamics in the lows in stead of cd's which have more dynamics in the highs....or something.
