SystematicChaos There will be plenty of areas of discussion about the merits of the album by the Dream Theater die-hards. But taken as a whole, this is Dream Theater’s finest and most balanced album in a decade. If Systematic Chaos helped them to partially lose the cult band tag, then Black Clouds & Silver Linings with surely take them to the next level. Isn't that too much saying?? That includes SDOIT!! :O Yeah man, if this is better than 6 degrees I'll be a happy happy boy.

breaktheprisonwall does anyone now of a site in the U.S. where i can purchase the Special Edition from that IS NOT Amazon (where it's listed as like $55....?) I mean, i know i may have to pay like $25-30, but $55? come one... any insight would be appreciated. Uh, that "like $55" one on Amazon is an IMPORT. Imports almost always have a high price. If you hold out a little while, they'll have the domestic version for a lower price. Also, as a side note, Amazon's prices for preorders usually fluctuate, often going quite a bit lower than the original price indicated, but they price guarantee preorders (which means you'll only be charged the lowest price the CD is listed at from the time you place the order until the order is shipped).

So, Rick. I bet I know what you're saying regarding the "growls". And yep, they must be terribly bad. How the band let that hideous thing come out?

Don't want to fall on the negativiy side, but I'm not that excited for the album as of that review... I'm sure that as a whole the album may be awesome, but I'm concerned about the individual "controversial" sections...

Hey Rich, As a point of reference, so I can better understand where you are coming from in your review, how would you rank previous Dream Theater albums? Thanks, Mark

Hey all I don't want to sound funny, but I don't really want to start getting into reviewing the album here. I always think it's best not to ruin the surprises. I did the Hammer review as they asked me. But trust me, it's an awesome album.

I am trying to find some parallels here, with previous album schedule. SC was out on June 4th, BC&SL are to be released roughly 3 weeks and two years later. "constant motion" was released as single, and free download for a bit from RR website on April 27th. My vague guess is that we should expect similar event for new album around May 18th, if they follow the same sort of schedule that is. But I still hope video and official single(s) is/are to be released sooner than that. Oh, and on top of that covers. Yessss. :D

I went ahead and preordered it, but I will keep an eye out in case another version shows up at a lower price, in which case I'll cancel this order.

Wasn't tryin to be rude or anything. Just throwing that out there cause I thought it was cool the last two ablums being released 2 years and two days apart and all. I did notice that your post was related to singles being released and stuff.

ResultsMayVary Please help me with that... I meant that as we already know which is one of the covers, it makes sense that it is uncovered during the first week, so we'll have to wait until the second week for the interesting stuff and the names of the covers we are anticipating. That said, "To Tame a Land" might be uncovered during the second or third week or something.

That review sounds fantastic but I absolutely will not let it influence my own unfolding of the music, nor will I allow myself to compare it to any other DT album. I going to let it be what it is. I'm very excited though.

Just the growl thing tells me that they're continuing on the post-SFAM style. Hopefully I'll hear something I like. SC was the first album where I didn't like anything by them. I'd love to see a producer other than them. All IMO of course. I know most people love this and that's what counts.

mini_monkey Is this stuff about the uber-deluxe edition old news? On the description bit on the left side, about the DVD, mouse mat etc. Sounds interesting http://roadrunnerrecords.co.uk/release/Black+Clouds+%26+Silver+Linings now we can understand why the preorder link from amazon was so expensive! but, it says import, maybe the american version will be cheaper?

cyberdrummer http://www.dtnorway.com/anmeldeser/35-anmeldelser/66-dream-theater-black-clouds-and-silver-linings.html That review made me really excited for Wither, The Shattered Fortress (I love references to old riffs), and The Best of Times, but it pretty much did the opposite for the rest. I'd say I was most looking forward to the Count of Tuscany since I love DT's epics, but this review makes it sound like it's some disjointed mishmash of riffs and song ideas. Still, I can't wait to hear this bad boy. PS - I really want to know what the lyrics to The Count of Tuscany are about...
