    Even though I can't claim to truly know you, all that you have shared with us (the fans) has made it feel like I do. Your fathers passing is truly sad news. My prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family during this difficult time. May God be with you.

I find it an amazing testament to the community we have in this forum that Mike is so quick to post about something like this, if only we didn't need to get reminders of that by hearing about things like this.

R.I.P. Howard..sorry about this Mike :( I cant imagine not having my dad around.  He will still be there in spirit with ya :)

My Condolences to you and entire portnoy family.  He will be missed and although i didnt know/meet him ever, he is held with the highest regard and fully responsible for bringing such a positive life force and inspiration to many aspiring drummers around the world; You.
 
I'm grateful for him, and for you.  I can only hope that you put your always busy schedule on hold for something as important at this.  May Howard RIP.

    I had the honor of meeting your dad at the 2005 Sacramento Gigantour back stage. I was with the Platinum group. While everyone was clamoring to get pics and sigs from you and DT, I was hanging back and spotted your dad also hanging back enjoying the DT swarm. I approached him and asked him for his autograph and he respectfully declined. He said that he wasn't the reason I was there and that his son and DT was the reason. We chatted for a bit and he beamed with pride when we talked about you. He was very warm and gracious and a very proud father. :o)
    I was also at your 2008 Modesto signing. I know we can't go back, but if I could I would have gladly missed seeing you that rough day so that you could spend one more day with your dad.
    Again, my condolences....   RIP

I am very sorry for your loss Mikey!

I'm so sorry for your loss. My father passed away last month (on 8th of December)after fighting the same horrible disease - cancer. He was 52 years old.
May your dad rest in peace.You're not alone, Mike!
