I'll do what I'll always do: approach the next CD with the least amount of excitement possible (although I'm thinking it will be very hard).
Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before.

OMG, I can't handle the wait right now Mike, but I know I will handle that kind of album

Time for that 80's song that comes to my mind everytime I hear or read news from an upcoming DT album or tour:

I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it, I'm about to lose control and I think I like it

Yep. I'm getting cranked for new DT again. Mike pushed a few "happy buttons" of mine with his post.

All this analyzing is seriously funny as hell.

Some of you are getting all frothy over a few words and completed drum tracks. Keep rolling it over and over in your heads and by release day you will have painted a picture in your mind's eye of what the new CD will be like, and the actual disc will "never" be precisely what you had anticipated. So you'll be disappointed. Don't do that to yourself.

Wait patiently until drop day. Go into it without any unrealistic expectations or preconceived notions and just take it for what it is. And be blown away by it.

DREAM THEATER continues to raise the bar every time out... and we should all know full well by now that good ol' MP never steers us wrong... so if Mike is already personally excited about this new record I suspect it will BLOW EVERYBODY AWAY... it will be a pleasure to get this when it comes out.  !!!

RE: The Drums Are Done!!!! - Thursday, November 27, 2008 8:27 PM
Simply Wow!

This is the only certain thing we can conclude from his post:

He knows how a lot of people feel regarding their last three albums (ie quality of writing is down; they're too formulaic; it's all about the shred; and so on). Furthermore, he is fully aware of the comparisons between the latest albums and the songs in his list (Note: 8V is within the latest albums). He is also painfully aware of the criticism he and the band receive here.

So,

There is no way in hell that he would say those things unless he was sure that the forum would liken this new album to those songs as well; otherwise, the backlash would be huge!

In conclusion, . I can't wait!

OK, people... length ain't everything, you know. (Insert joke here.) He's referring to the actual musical direction of the album. Or at least I hope so.

Actually, knowing MP, he's probably toying with us, and he literally does mean an album with the exact same song lengths as those songs.

Strange that he includes PMU with those other songs. IMO, it's a much weaker song when compared to the other 4, in terms of just about everything (except air time in the 90's)

I think he is only saying one or more of the songs will be more traditional (in the sense of verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, solo, chorus), but at the same time will also be metal and possibly have interesting/cool interludes between verses and choruses.

Either way, he is saying the spirit of the music will be akin to PMU.

Or, I could be way off

When I saw the title, the first thing I thought was that Mike's new drum kit was finished and ready to be shown off.

It's cool that the man is so pumped about what they've been working on. I'll be looking forward to hearing this!

Holy...fucking...shit!!!!! I cannot wait, although the countdown to the album's release is half the fun. I am super psyched. DT has yet to disappoint me, and everything they have put out from Scenes onward has been absolutely kick ass (I love the pre-Scenes albums, but at this point DT is a well oiled machine guaranteed to deliver something truly awesome, and this has happened consistently enough for me to make such an assumption). I KNOW the new album will absolutely rule. This is great news.

Re-read MP's post: The drums are done. Nothing was said about the rest of the instruments. He could be strictly talking about his drumming on each song.
