DT "Chaos In Motion" DVD - AVAILABLE NOW!!

what sums it all up to me is : I'm very grateful that Mike and DT have put out this DVD. As a fan, I'd rather have this DVD as a reminder of a great tour in a somewhat lower quality pixelwise (still awesome though), than no DVD at all. C'mon people!

To me, this is the bottom line: James LaBrie is a bad singer. 

He struggles to sing in tune.  It's especially apparent in his higher register, but it even happens with lower notes as well.  He (tries to) cover it up by using an extremely wide vibrato, and evidently it fools a hell of a lot of fans (and even fellow bandmates).

There's just no escaping the fact that James is no longer a good vocalist.  They somehow manage to sweeten his voice up in the studio, but he's atrocious live.  He mispronounces words, he shrieks out high notes, and warbles like a police siren.  "But he's the voice of DT!"  Sorry, that doesn't stand up as a good argument any more (and it probably never did).

I think if DT replaced James with a singer who can actually (dare I say it?!) sing in tune, they could achieve so much more success as a band.  The four instrumentalists in Dream Theater are some of the most talented and creative that I have heard, but James just sticks out like a sore thumb to me.  For a band known for their technical excellence, I don't understand why they abide having such a mediocre vocalist.  I can't even tell you how many times I've played DT for people and heard "they're an amazing band, but I just can't stand the singer".  And unfortunately, now I agree.

Now having watched both DVDs in their entirety I have to say that I love this DVD. It's just a great package of goodies from a great tour. Love it love it love it. In The Presence of Enemies is absolutely breathtaking, the Medley is stunning, Surrounded is incredible and The Dark Eternal Night is so fucking bad ass.

Love the documentary as well. All so well done.

To each his own, but I think I probably agree with the majority of people here....I really dig James and his voice and his lyrics and everything else about him.

When I first bought Awake his voice was the thing that I latched onto....I loved his delivery. And I feel he has continued to grow and progress and mature as a singer as the band has done so musically....

This may be just me....but if I hated a vocalist for a band I listened to, I probally wouldn't listen to them...

and I would also probably not register on a fan-forum for said group just to say so....

I don't really dig jonathon davis's voice and I certainly don't waste my time posting on any KORN forums....

Well, gettin' a Limited Edition here in Mexico was Impossible. No store has it, even gettin' the regular edition was an adventure. A store in which I used to trust didn't have it, the guy told me that the LE had an error, so all copies were returned to be corrected, the error was on the Audio Cd's, 2 discs 2 or something like that. Now, I remember someone in the forum saying his copy had this problem, but other than that it seems all copies are correct. In another store they told me the exact thing: it was pushed back due to an error and that they were goin' to correct it and ship it at the end of the month, and when I asked about the reguler edition they said "I don't know, I think we'll get it til november..." I hate this people, who don't know a s*it!! and it's their "job".
 
So, no internet shops, no local shops to get it, last option: Ebay, at an insane price, at least the ones I've seen, like 100 bucks. But hey, life acts in mysterious ways, maybe I'll get it other way
 
Anyway, I watched the DVD yesterday,  I REALLY LOVE IT!!, the "not HD" is not really important for me, the spirit of the band is there, I felt the DVD more intimate, It's just a beautiful piece of art, I got really amazed when I saw they included Mighty Akerfeldt's performance of Repentance....It's a perfect DVD.
 
Thanx a lot Mike and Co., you'll never disappoint me. You really are a great example to all of us. That's why DT is my favorite band ever!!

WOW - Very cool DVD.  I am down in South America doing Humanitarian stuff with the U.S. Navy and we pulled into Puerto Rico for a few days.  Imagine how stoked I was to find this DVD at a Borders at the mall!!!  I was unable to get the deluxe version because they did not have it, but was happy to get the DVD none the less.  I am still trying to take it all in, but this thing is killer.  All of the documentary stuff is cool, but especially that segment on the Make a Wish guy - Very awesome.  I have met these guys a few times now and they are very personable and down to earth.  I only hope that I can score the CD's for this - I would imagine that they are mixed a little differently.  Oh - and I am in the Terminal 5 NYC picture in the gallery (look for the military white hat flying in the air).  I am pretty sure that I was the only goober there waving one of those around.  Is there a way to pull this picture out of the video file (without doing a screen grab)?  Just curious.  This is truly another must have DVD to add to the collection...

Thanks Mike and DT for an absolutely amazing DVD! The whole thing is awesome.

On a side note, could anyone tell me how they do that thing with the camera during the intro to Finally Free? It's where it focuses on MP when he's playing during the intro. It sorta looks like the frame rate had been lowered or something. Has it got a proper name for it? It looks awesome whatever it is!

Yeah we have serious issues in Canada with the Ltd Edition

HMV, Amazon, Best Buy, Future Shop all have nothing.  HMV shows release date of 10/14.  But if you look at their website, at least 30 of their stores have it in stock.  Amazon shows "shipping in 4-6 weeks".

I actually touched a copy at Sunrise Records, but he wasn't allowed to sell it to me because it's street dated for 10/7. 

Hey guys, as I read through all posts from this thread, it looks like there's no issues with the Limited Edition. I'm saying this because, as I said on my last post, 2 local stores told me that it was pushed back due to some issues with the DVD or CDs. One guy told me that on the DVD, in X track, the DVD stopped and returned to the menu. A guy from another store told me that on the audio CDs, they put 2 discs 2. Both stores told me that they were goin' to re-edit it and be on sale til december.
 
Can anyone confirm this? cause as I said, haven't heard of any error of this type through the thread except just for one guy who got the 2 same audio discs.

YES!!!! I finally got it last night... and watched about half of the live performances (skipping ahead a bit). The performance of Ministry of Lost souls is worth the price of the DVD by itself IMO... So happy to have Scarred and Lines in the Sand on DVD as well now.... not to mention ITPOE

To those that are complaining about Quality... I'm just thankful we have a tour document for this tour! I didn't think we'd get one. Sure the quality is mixed, but it says right on the box that it is "raw footage". I think it came together quite nicely and has a cool vibe to it.

Actually, when one of my buddys rolled As I Am live at Budokan for the first time that was the first thing I said to him. But probably the Budokan isn´t a great opening for anybody as far as James´ performance goes.^^

I preordered the deluxe edition from buy.com a few days before the release date. They still had it available for pre-order, so i assumed I could snag me a copy. Fast foward to today and they still haven't shipped it, and when I asked they said it  "has been delayed in the fulfillment process" and they "do not
have an estimated shipping date at this time."

This DVD is so great! I liked the professional style of Score, but after a couple of songs I'm already used to the "rugged" style of this dvd and I'm loving it.
 
And James sounds great, as does the whole band!!

I love the style thatthis has been produced in, it makes a refreshing change to have this type of programming on the DVD. To me the best thing about it is JLB's voice, he does hit the notes, it is still (or still sounds) very live, and he also adds interest to the vocal melodies through the variations. He is a very talented guy, as are the rest of the band. I do like his voice and think he fits DT just perfectyly.

Just read that the DVD was #2 on the charts for music DVD sales. Pretty damn good DT. Congrats.

This is very very good. I'm glad to see a DVD come out from the tour I went to see. This might even top Live At Budokahn for me. Congrats DT. Good luck on the new album.

Im a noob guitarist but does anyone else hear JPs guitar is just slightly out of tune in The ministry of lost souls? It's really clear in the clean arpegio "intro". I think its the high E that doesnt ring out correctly, or mayby it that flanger type effect on it that makes it sound like that.

I've heard many people say it's mostly because of the chorus effect. Definitely needed to be dialed back.

Anyway, I watched the whole 2nd DVD loved all of it.  I find myself watching the videos for ITPOE and TMOLS aot.

They won't give me my money back only a credit. Luckilly I paid through paypal so I'm going to file a claim against them if I don't get my money back.

Just got my 5 disc set in the mail! So excited, watched the intro just to make sure it worked on my DVD and it gave me chills and i had a huuuge grin the whole time Watching it tonight when my bro gets home

The CDs are great, I found the 5-set in HMV today so I'll pick that up next week.

One thing that bugs me is, Mike! You totally dumbed down your amazing beat around the part of Blind Faith with the twin solo! They are the coolest fills ever on the Six Degrees version!

I forgive ya though, COMPLETELY because you sing the first verse in Take the Time!

I noticed the sound when I got the MP3 from FYE.  I don't think it's out of tune, though.  Others think it's a chorus effect but a chorus is a just a modulated delay that doesn't detune.  It could be a univibe patch on the magnetic side.  As we know, the original was recorded on both electric and acoustic guitars. He probably used the piezo side straight and applied a harmonizer patch to the magnetic side just to simulate doubling. From what I've read, JP's guitars are set up to have really low action, so it stands to reason that the high E thing is the piezo side with a bit of fret buzz (that you can't hear on the magnetic side). 

That's just my thoughts on it.
