speaking of quality, does one be able to hear "audience" really, well i don't.  I think this release will follow the same fate as 'falling into infinity' as compared to other DVD release. I men, if another band than DT would release this , we will probably give it A bvut these guys make us to get more and more with each release, setting the bar higher everytime, so i give it C even though i do not expect the full stage production.

The friend of mine who ordered the special edition just told me two days ago that our copies from Amazon have arrived. Yaaaaaaaay. I can't wait to put my hands on it and watch it already.

It's the only band for me, that produces DVD's with it's every tour.

Just remember:
Metropolis Pt.2 > Scenes from New York
Six Degrees > Bucharest, Romania
Train of Thought > Live At Budokan
Octavarium > Score
Systematic Chaos > Chaos In Motion

Also:

WDADU > WDADU 15 Anniversary DVD (Documentary section)
I&W > Live In Tokyo
Awake > 5YIAL
FII > 5YIAL

Not every band does that.

As if you actually NEED a blu-ray version of this. Why are some people so fucking ignorant when it comes to technology? Are your eyes really that bad that you can't make out what is happening on stage?

Well it's not that. When you see many DVD's with excellent quality, your eyes are getting used to this better quality. So when it comes the time to see a DVD with lower quality you think and feel that you're watching a VHS like SmokingManXF said. But we have to realise that the band has worked really hard to provide us this material. Furthermore, they are not obliged to publish a new DVD with every new tour. It's the only band for me, that produces DVD's with it's every tour.

Just remember:
Metropolis Pt.2 > Scenes from New York
Six Degrees > Bucharest, Romania
Train of Thought > Live At Budokan
Octavarium > Score
Systematic Chaos > Chaos In Motion

We can't ignore the quality of Score and Budokan which is better than Chaos In Motion, but we have to realise that the quality is not the only factor for "the" best DVD.

Pretty much. Which is why I don't see the need for all the complaining about visuals. You have the extremely professional DVDs and then you have some fun DVDs where it actually is just like a normal DT show. None of the anxieties of the band because they are only filming one night and can't mess up. I personally like the footage... apart from the guy who keeps doing the \m/ sign whenever someone is in the middle of the stage and blocks them out.

My friend, there's no reason to be so strict. I'm also a great fan of the quality but you have also to consider the duration of this release. If you need a better quality, then the band had to use a better equipment (pro hd cameras, sound recording consoles & devices) which is impossible to carry around for 115 shows!!! We can't also forget the costs of the transports and usage of these equipment (technical crew). Furthermore, they had to split the concert DVD into 2 DVD discs. As far as I know the maximum duration with the best quality for a dual layer disc is approximately 2 hours. So a 3-hour show also reduces the quality. That's why Live At Budokan & Score have better quality. They were filmed on "ONE" single day and they had slightly shorter duration.

You know, at first I was a little disappointed with the picture quality and stuff, but after Surrounded 07 came on, I quit my bitching. Before I watched that, I was playing lots of PS3 games and watching a lot blu rays. When I popped CIM in, it was a face first hit into an ugly wall.
I love the dvd now. Regardless.

Unfortunately some people just don't get that. They think that the band can film an entire tour with Score quality without problems and that if they didn't, it was just because they didn't feel like it.
Hell, if the shows were in high quality they would probably bitch that the backstage shots should also be in HQ.
They think it's easy, they don't realize that things cost money and sometimes are just plain impossible to do. You'd think that by now people would know that the band always does the very best it can but that's probably asking too much.

Some people just don't have a clue but unfortunately know how to post on message boards.

I love the DVD, i was a little freaked about the cameras thing and all but, when i saw it for the second time that feeling was gone.

I really enjoyed it and i love the details of the menus and the CD layer and all, it is 10/10 points release!!!.

one thing: the guy doing  this \m/ in the shows from Canada (the Floyd's Mother solo for example) and ruining the takes, dude i hate you. :P

That, by far, is the best response in this whole debate!! You nailed it - every word. I mean, how many FREAKIN times was it stated that this DVD release was not going to be a full blown, HQ,  immaculate release? MP even said, compare it to 5YIALT and you won't be disappointed. Compare it to LAB or SCORE and you will be disappointed. Jeez.......

My brother just rang from the mall, says theyve got the dvd cd combo there and he's getting it for me. He mentioned that it says toronto on the back. I was AT that show man! (as well as sydney). I'm really excited to catch it now.

Yeah, this DVD gave a lot of countries the chance to be on a DT DVD. I never thought that Buenos Aires could be included in a release, i'm so happy... i was there the two nights, i guess Mike chose Panik Attack because JP had a lot of troubles with his gear during the show and that one was the second song of the night... dunno, just a wild guess.

Bought it yesterday (SE). The local bookstore asked  €34,95; the media markt across the square (a 100 m walk) asked € 24,95, so my choice was quickly made.

Didn't watch it enterily yet, but what a great DVD so far! Especially the ahoy-footage! I'm there somewhere.....

Finally the Deluxe Edition is in my hands. Had to order it at Ebay. UK seller, $52.00 incl. Shipping. One week for it to arrive. Saddly the packaging arrived pretty damaged, seriously damaged. Luckily the discs are fine, except for the 1st DVD which has a little damage, but I'm sure it plays fine, anyways I bought the standard edition so it's no problem.

That 'local bookstore' is always more expensive than other shops such as Sounds, Plato or MediaMarkt. Don't know why that is though...

Okay, so the Admin did it. But Why? Weymolith Why?

I said the the edition was a brilliant 5 disc set. But that I do not consider it a DELUXE collector`s edition because of the cheap way in which RR made it. I mean where`s the thread? Are here only allowed comments that praise everything? When an opinion is made what do you do: A FIST IN THE MOUTH? well man, if that`s the case you deal with.. I do not what to say. Maybe anything from now on.

I discovered DT since 12 years and never gave them up. But this is unacceptable and undemocratic.

Perhaps if you checked your email you'd know why. Your comments were nothing but rude and insulting in regards to the packaging of both CIM and Score. What was the word you used "what a piece shit."

See Rule 13.

There's a huge difference between saying you were unhappy with the packaging, and calling it "what a piece shit."

Open discussion and constructive criticism are welcome and encouraged.  We do not expect everyone here to love everything DT and its members have always done. Remember, it is not necessarily what you say, but how you say it.  And if you cannot say something in a way that doesn't come across as offensive or overly negative, you are better off not posting it at all so that you do not find yourself on the wrong end of a warning, temp ban, or perm ban for bashing the band or starting a flame war.  Even if what you say isn't "bashing" by your standards, please think about what you say and how it is likely to be taken by others who may have just as strong an opinion.

Very strange indeed! FYI, that local bookstore was Selexys Donner, so not a very small store, though very expensive sometimes.

Finally got it as well yesterday. The 5 disc collector's edition from amazon.com that we ordered with a few friends. First thing that I had to notice and that happens sometimes obviously but in this case it's a bit of a headache is that DVD1 was loose, as in, the little plastic thing that holds the dvd in place broke off...So DVD1 is flying around whenever I take the package in my hand...No biggy though. I'm lucky that it finally arrived.

I also watched the whole thing yesterday at once. Sat down at 6pm and watched all of DVD1 and DVD2. I think I spent some 6 hours in front of my computer watching it.

Now a few comments on this release.

Let's start with the packaging. It looks really cool and it's cool to have the 5 disc special edition, although I don't/can't really see the "extended artwork" that was mentioned at the beginning. Love the cover and the ants on the discs. Really cool.

On to the content of the DVDs.

Disc 1: I LOVE the menues. Awesome job on them Blob!!! Major props. Great quality and really well made from an artistic point of view. The setlist is great. Really loved the songs included on this release (highlights being Lines in The Sand, Forsaken, Take The Time, ITPOE and the Medley.) The quality of the footage is a bit under par at places, but still really enjoyable. What I have a "bigger problem" with is the audio, which at places sounds really "weird". Especially some of James' singing and the drums. The right china on some of the songs has an interesting sound to it when James is singing and then another sound when he's not. So yeah the audio quality took away a bit from the overall impression. The best footage and audio is without a doubt from Vancouver. I really enjoyed those bits. Would've been sweet if at least the audio quality could've been maintaned at that level throughout the dvd. I know that it's impossible to have the same video quality, because of the different locations and different gear used, but for the audio, I guess the same gear was used for 90% of the recordings, so I can't really understand why there's such a huge difference in sound quality between the songs. So yeah while I really enjoyed it, I wish the audio was a bit better on some of the songs.

Disc 2: Now disc 2 is FANTASTIC. I totally enjoyed every second of it. I also love the fact that they included footage of the crew and all this behind the scenes stuff. I mean there's been a lot of behind the scenes stuff on previous dvds, but this really showed how the whole tour is set up and how all of the people make it work. Really cool. It was also cool to hear all the comments of the different band members talking about each other and talking about their experiences/problems and joys while being on tour and comparing it with their "off" time. I love it when Mike says that their Starbucks bill for the Systematic Chaos was bigger than the budget for the whole WDADU recording. There's a lot of great info in there. LOVE it. And all the extras on disc 2 are also great. Especially those live projection screens.

All in all a great package. And yes, it's very 5YIALT like and yes I do like it a LOT. It's great to have something different than a "normal" concert DVD like Budokan or Score.

Haven't listened to the CDs yet, but gonna do that soon.

Thanks to all involved in the making of this DVD and thanks to DT for doing such a dvd. I'm sure it's not really fun to have a few people following you and filming you for a few days/weeks.

I give it an 8/10.

Btw. Is it just me or is the volume on the DVDs very low, especially on the first disc. I had to cranck it all the way up for it to be at a decent volume level. The audio CDs are OK, but the first dvd is way too low in terms of the overall volume levels.

Sorry for the triple post.

I'm just now listening to the CDs and I'm on Panic Attack and there's a good example of the "bad sound" I'm talking about. The drums sound really weak. You can't really hear the bass drums at all and it has no bottom end and punch and also during the the chorus you can hear that weird china sound that I was talking about and some of the hi-hat sounds are pretty bad as well.

While I'm no expert on the subject, here's why I think there's differences in the audio quality.

When a show is decided to be recorded, a mobile studio is usually parked outside the venue (like the one Kevin Shirley is in on the M2000 behind the scenes vid) and a lot of time can be taken at soundcheck to get a great sound. Maybe that was used at Vancouver. All the other venues may not have had that luxury due to cost and while all shows on CIM were multitrack recorded and mixed and mastered afterwards, a mix from FOH will sound different that in a mobile studio and you can only do so much in post production.

Of course, I could be talking crap .

About the sound quality, I agree with your opinion but there's also an another thing that maybe should be considered and that is the "concert locations". The concert at Vancouver was performed at an indoor area which means that the sound is reflected and isolated in this area. From what I saw, the other concerts where all performed at outdoors (I'm not really sure for this because of the DVD's view perspective) where there's much more loss of sound efficiency. Only the soundchecks could solve this problem, I think. I remind you that Budokan and Score where performed at indoors.

Oops, you're right about Ahoy. I saw it from the documentary on the second DVD. Furthermore, I just bought the new Within Temptation DVD which is performed at the Ahoy. As I said to my previous post, I'm not really sure about the locations because of the DVD's view perspective. Sorry.

I  ordered the SE while I was in Germany  through Amazon and I got it 2 days before I left Germany.

I agree with Szabi... the menus of the DVDs are gorgeous. I extremely happy o have this dvd because I was able
to have a complete view of the awesome light show that DT had this last tour (too bad that they never came to MTY).

I also noticed the volume problem on the first DVD... but I think this are just small details.

I had to laugh when JM says "I have to get interviews like this out of the way so I can
do what I have to do"... true to his interview phobia.

It was nice to hear them talk about each other and to "meet" the  crew. So we finally know who
to blame for the  bass sound at gigs.

Thank You Mike for the DVDs

My order from Best Buy is still on backorder.  I had to call in to stop them from cancelling the order.  1 month and still waiting for it to arrive.  Wassup with Best Buy?  Are they not getting any copies of the collectors edition?

RE: "Chaos In Motion World Tour" DVD - Tuesday, November 04, 2008 5:44 AM
I bought mine yesterda. It's deluxe 5-disc packageand it costed me about 70 bucks here in Russia. Package itself is awesome, artwork, menus and all that stuff is also a blast. Then I push the Play button and... what the hell? What the hell with the cameras? It looks like most of the shows was shot with cellphone camera! Band plays and looks greater than ever, but who thought it would be cool idea to shoot for DVD with such awful cameras? Just take a look at Budokan or Score video - cameras are extremely great, picture looks fantastic. And the new video looks like a bootleg. I don't know what was the idea, but it's pretty sad to me that such a great shows were shot that way.

If not talking about video quality, DVD is a blast. James is on his best with vocals and Mike too. Freakin' love Mike's growls and James' screaming in "Constant Motion". You're turning to Opeth, guys! The new arrangement of "Surrounded" is amazing and John's solos fit a lot to it. Behind-the-scenes materials are also interesting. I laughed my balls off when JP spoke using that YouTube guy's voice. He has to release a new guitar video school - whole with this voice talking about world domination!

Anyway, I know it was experiment to show us pieces from different shows, but... I think it would be better to go back to the old method next time. One show, one DVD - like great Live Scenes, Budokan and Score. But still it's a nice add to my DT collection. Thanks for that, Mike and others!

I know the thing about raw footage, I've read Mike's statements about it. I understand the idea, but I think it's VERY BAD idea. Why not just shoot some show in HD and make everyone happy? Are there any fans who like that horrible live footage from CIM more than Budokan and Score videos?

Very enjoyable dvd, especially the documentary stuff.

I fully agree, I've seen then live many times, so the documentary sections were by far my favorites.

Because there's been 3 DVD's of one single show released in recent years. The idea was to do something different this time and document the whole tour. And I'd hardly call any of the live footage from CIM "horrible".

Is this CIM bashing ever going to end?

Now they did. And it was a FAIL. Hope they'll return to the "1 show - 1 DVD" theme.

Even "Falling into Infinity" bashing isn't going to end, though 10 years have passed. Don't be naive, there will be a lot of opinions 'bout CIM. And not only positive, of course.

In comparison with "Live at Budokan" and "Score" it is.

Tens of thousands of DT fans can now say that they were on a show that is featured on an oficial DT dvd. And the constant change of venues keeps it fresh throughout, it feels more dynamic. I'm not saying that I wouldn't rather have score quality, I didn't attend any of those shows anyway. I'm just saying that I understand and support what the band did with this. Anyway, the sound is great and the setlist couldn't be any better (not to mention the hilarious backstage footage) so it's well worth the price.

Oh, enough of this. Why you always have to bitch for the quality???

Please Mike, the next time that you will produce a DVD, ask all your fans, one by one, how "THEY" want it to be. Don't you ever think to do something without our opinion. Or else you will be fired from the band or burned into the boilers of hell. I think that you should also consider not to produce DVD's anymore. If you follow this way, you will maintain a "calmness" style in your life and you won't be anxious anymore.

I think Mike does a fantastic job listening to his fans. The past 3 DVDs (all of which are amazing) have all been essentially the same format. Mike chose to do something new this time and while I'll take Scenes, Budokan, or Score over Chaos In Motion any day of the week, I like how Mike changes things up to keep them interesting. Without a dynamic element of variety that drives each new release to be different, DT would has as much variety as DragonForce.

People who whine about the Quality of the Chaos in Motion DVD don't have my respect.

It's a tour DVD. Get over it

It is great for what it is. And the documentary is worth the price alone IMO.

The idea was to stillk give us something even when they chose not to record a gig this time. It was either this or nothing. I take it a million times. If you don't, no one was forcing you to buy it. I knew what it would be like way before pre-ordering, so it wasn't like you couldn't research about it before buying. If you just grabbed it without knowing what it would look like, you only have yourself to blame, especially considering you have access to an internet connection. I always research about a product I want to buy before I do. I only buy things that I knoe I'll enjoy that way. You guys should too...

That doesn't make any sense at all. They recorded (i.e. filmed) MORE gigs than ever for this DVD.

The only songs that really look somewhat subpar are Surrounded and Blind Faith. Everything else looks good enough for me.

The best looking ones though, are Forsaken, Ministry, and Schmedley Wilcox. The latter is a pretty nice visual treat.

5YIALT was a VHS release originally. It's perfectly understandable that people would expect more from a DVD
(and yes, some shots during Blind Faith approach mobile phone camera level in terms of picture quality).

If you had to pay 70 bucks for it i can understand the disapointment. And it's not that clear from the information of the product what kind of video/production quality it is

Now obviously the CD version of Surrounded has been recorded at another venue than the DVD version. I wonder where... Anyone??

Dunno.  I do prefer the CD version over the DVD version (primarily because of JP's extended solo).  Both are great, just different.
