Why was Voices cut in 5YILAT....?

Mike, why did yall edit out the sex is death verse in voices from the wowow ppv? I like many have the bootleg of it, and cant really notice anything wrong?
My guess its time restraint, the video was 118 minutes, under 2 hours so it retailed for 19.95.

Pantera "3" (same label) was a lil over 2 hours and retailed for 24.95....was that done to keep the price down?

Very keen observation!! You are the first person to point out having noticed that to me!
Essentially, it was a time problem...
The label instructed me to deliver a video not a *second* over 120 minutes.

My initial cut was around 150 minutes, so I needed to trim that....(FAQ - take notes Scotty!)...what I chopped onto the cutting room floor from that first cut was:
1. Caught in a Web/ Drum Solo (WOWOW Broadcast - Japan 1995)
2. Guitar Solo/ Paradigm Shift (OIALT version - Paris 1998)
3. The Silent Man (Electric Version - Rotterdam FC Show 1998)
4. New Millennium (From the DP/ELP/DT Tour - Summer 1998)

After those cuts, I ended up with roughly 123 minutes...which meant I needed to be *very* specific about where I was going to lose those few extra minutes...

That is where I made the decision to lose:
1. The intro to "To Live Forever" (afterall, it was already on the "Live in Tokyo" video...and I knew this version would end up in its entirety on the '98 FC Xmas CD)
2. The intro to "Voices" and
3. The 3rd Verse to "Voices" (I figured that this was one of the songs that was doubling over onto the OIALT CD and the 5YIALT video - even though different versions - so at least the CD version would be un-cut.......and to be brutally honest, I thought James sang that verse like sh*t anyways!)
and I may be wrong here, because I'm doing this off the top of my head - but I may have edited the middle section of 6:00 as well (?)..
I figured the Japan WOWOW footage was the first to be trimmed because most hardcore DT fans would have had it anyways...

Anyways, as already mentioned elsewhere - I'm hoping some day to get our first 2 videos re-released on DVD and then maybe I'll be able to re-insert this footage for a "Director's Cut"
(BTW - I did screen this version as our opening act for the '98 Unplugged Xmas shows)
