I can attest to that. I rescued a calico who wandered inside a grocery store about six months ago. Her story and condition was nowhere near as dramatic as this one, but she is very affectionate. I think at least some of that comes from her being abandoned. She's a year old now. I always wondered what the first six months of her life was like. I doubt she was abused. I think her original owner couldn't afford to keep her and left her in the parking lot for someone to find. I posted signs, went to petfinder.com, placed an ad at a local vet, etc, but no response. I'm glad though. She is a bundle of energy and a lot of fun.

Awesome story! We have a similar one - about 2 years ago we decided to adopt a stray from the local pound. Maggie was brought in to the pound at about 6 months old, already pregnant and taken from a home where she was abused. She was pretty messed up and wouldn't come anywhere near us. She gradually warmed up and back in April decided she wanted some love and affection. She now sleeps with us and is a total glutton for attention. Here's a pic -

this is a great story. I think she might be afraid of the dog due to her injury. Looking at her it looks like a dog bite. Something tried to pick her up and shake her, maybe? In time they will get along. I had a cat for 18 years, out lived a few dogs.. She ruled the house.. She put the fear of God into our Chow-Chow and our Alaskan Malamute.. Just give them time.. She has been through so much in her lifetime. What a great story, the dog too.. Humane society is the way to go.. Even pure bred rescues..good job.. 2 animals have been saved and given a great home... I miss having a cat!

I have a great deal of respect and admiration for people that take care of stray animals, so this thread is great to see. I don't think I've ever had an animal that wasn't rescued by someone either in my family or by a third party. The animals usually seem to recognize your kindness and make great companions as a result. Not to say that animals that weren't in need of any help make any less of a great pet. All in all, it's always nice to see someone that's compassionate in an often apathetic world.

Leroy looks like my girlfriend's cat named Jack. She found Jack outside in a dumpster and took him in. He's a pretty cool cat. For a good play tip, make a small paper ball on a wooden/non carpeted floor. They'll go wild! (Not to mention the always popular laser pointer)

Don't want to start another thread. 3 weeks ago while I was working out a cat was peering at me through the basement window and crying. I went up and grabbed a can of tuna fish and fed it. It was starving and ate all of it in minutes. So I gave it another can. It hung around the back deck until dark and then it left. Friday it showed up again, skinny and it's fur covered with burrs. This time my daughter was home from college so we made a little home for it out of a box, went and bought cat food and cat dish and all kinds of other stuff. I've called everyone I know to try to find it a home but no luck. My daughter is allergic to cats, so is her boyfriend so I just can't take it in. But it looks like I'll have to keep feeding it to keep it alive. btw the local shelter is closing it's doors for good tomorrow so that is not an option. So hard to see it outside struggling to survive.

That's sad... There's a cat that has come around my house the last few weeks as well. This one looks pretty healthy, probably since we feed it every day lol. I have 3 cats of my own, but we really can't have a 4th. I am allergic, but I can get by since I love em so much. My mom made a waterproof box for the cat and actually put an outdoor heating pad inside the box so that he has a warm (and dry) place to sleep. My GF is TNR (Trap Neuter Return) certified, so we will try to catch the cat, bring it to the vet to have it neutered, and we can return it back to outside so that it won't produce 1000 more kittens. Maybe there's some sort of animal sanctuary or something in your area that would be willing to foster the cat and possibly look for a home?

We have plenty of pets of our own, but when the neighbors moved out, they couldn't (or didn't want to, not sure which) bring their outside cats with them. So, we kinda adopted them and feed them in our garage. We had the females spayed so that the neighborhood cat population didn't continue to grow out of control. They seem pretty happy with the food and shelter we give them.
Sometimes I think this anchor just weighs me down.
