Just finished Inception.. never seen it before.
Firstly this is one of the rare movies I am going to give a 10/10 and my 1-10 scale is usually pretty harsh and specific. I didn't have one problem with the dialog, which these.. days is usually pretty easy to find a flaw with. Didn't have any problem with the directing... didn't have any problem with the logic, which with movies like this can get out of hand pretty quickly. Even not having a problem with those things can usually still only yield a 9/10 as I still have to enjoy the movie... Else what was the point?

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The most important reason why was longing. I can think of many movies that deal with love, loss and revenge. These feelings are so common that I find it hard to find a director who can really convey them in a unique way that makes me want to keep my attention to it. A few directors and writers do this well for me... Cameron Crowe, Clint Eastwood to name a couple. I never thought of Chris Nolan as that kind of a director...

What's even harder to depict, and a bit more rare is longing. It often gets looked over. Man o man was it laid out pretty good in this film. It's pretty hard to tie an emotional climax and an action climax together in an artsy organic fashion but sure as shit I thought it was done beautifully here. The longing that Cobb felt for not just his wife, but his image of her ( i got the feeling if he could dream her as real as she was he woulda stayed ) but also his children I think was really transferred to the viewer ( speaking of myself as I watched it alone )

It doesn't make my top ten but it is certainly good enough to do so. I would watch that again and again if not for just the emotional connection between the main character and his wife.

As far as the way it looked goes... Im not sure there is anything negative to say about it. With a film like this directors can really go nuts... so much so it takes away from the viewing experience ( The 2 matrix sequels are an example of that for me... ) I think it was utilized perfectly in this movie. Usually the visuals are a pass/fail for me.. as long as it doesn't take away from my experience it's a pass. But I really feel I should go out of my way to praise how meticulous it looked and how well it added to the film

Wow... that was a longer post then I had intended. In short.. Inception = 10/10

First time contributor to this thread as I don't watch too many movies....

Hall Pass - 7.5/10.  Funny movie.  Not anything that will win any awards but funny anyway.
Just Go With it - 8/10.  Adam Sandler movies are hit or miss with me and this was a hit.  Much better than I expected.  Still have a thing for Jennifer Aniston.

Forgot to add Crazy Stupid Love.  Not bad.....7/10.  Steve Carrell plays the down on his luck guy very well.

Watched "Of Gods and Men." A very well made film with great performances. A shame that the script didn't take any chances with the material. But great scenes and very emotional film. 8/10

This last week I watched 3 movies:
Miller's Crossing - 9/10 - as with most Coen Brothers movies the actors are strongs, dialogues are excellent and they show only what is needed. A very minimalistic way of storytelling (but the movies are not empty). I have to watch it again to find some more layers in this one.
Taking of Pelham 123 - 7,5.10 - With Travolta and Washington. Both I find great actors and Tony Scott is a very good director in my opinion. The script left some holes in the story, but it was a good movie to watch, very entertaining. Not thought provoking but fun/exciting.
The superhero movie - 5/10 - Basically a Spiderman rip off, but funnier although it gets a bit boring to have a lame joke about almost everything.

A modern classic. The cinematography among other things is just amazing. And a killer soundtrack, too.

                        Headhunters 8/10
A Norwegian/Danish thriller movie with a nice twisted sense of humor.

                            Tucker & Dale vs. Evil - 7/10
A lot of fun and worth your time, just a bit contrived.

I seriously try to be a little more thorough with my opinions of movies but I have a hard time summing up just how shitty this movie is. I can't believe how bad it is... for all the money thrown at it and hype I have heard... this is just.... horrid. I feel dumb for having watched it. I don't live my life regretting things.. but I definitely regret not turning this off after about 10 minutes. In fact finishing this movie might be the worst decision I have ever made in my life... ever.

The Man From Earth: A coworker recommended it to me recently. Watched the first 15 minutes, got bored, and shelved the movie. Thankfully, i sat down to watch the rest today. Very riveting film, especially one that takes place in a single place for the duration. Great ensemble cast and i felt most of the actors did a great job in portraying the different viewpoints and reactions folks might have to the premise.
                                   Really awesome ending too. 8/10.

Super 8: Very cool. The ending seemed a bit rushed and random, but it's JJ Abrams, so i've come to expect crappy endings from him. Other than that, loved the young adult actors and the overall story. 7/10.

Pearl Jam 20: Love documentaries, and especially music documentaries. This was great. My wife is a big Pearl Jam fan so she really enjoyed it as well. I liked the first segment focusing on Mother Love Bone and the influence that Andy Wood had on the entire music scene. Great archival footage of the band and some honest interviews from the band and folks they've known since the beginning.  8/10.

I just saw Margin Call. I thought it was an excellent film. Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore, and Stanley Tucci all gave great performances. It is loosely based off 24 hours at an investment bank right at the start of the financial crisis. (I am fairly certain it is based of Lehman, but am not 100% sure) I thought it did a good job of capturing the tenuous human aspect involved on the sell-side of wall street/investment firms. I left the movie feeling a bit down, as the ending was very powerful. 9/10 overall.

Well put. While it could have been much more personal and I didn't like the way they went through their past drummers in a hurry, it was still pretty good a documentary. 7½/10

I watched "Pearl Jam: The Kids Are Twenty" the other day. It's the alpha version of Twenty without almost any documentary, just live scenes from past tours ranging from Ten to Backspacer. Enjoyed it as well, but I'm glad they went and did the documentary in the end. 8/10

I've seen 20 yesterday as well. Quite good though I have to agree with liquidsr. I also could have done with a lot more statements from other musicians, like on the Rush documentary. Still, as far as rockumentaries go, it's well done and light years ahead of the boring Foo Fighters film.

Another film I've seen yesterday would be Bridge to Terabithia, and what a wonderful little film that was for a kids flick. At times it felt like a Studio Ghibli film done live-action style. A word of warning though: If you're not familiar with the book, don't let the trailers mislead you. It's NOT a fantasy film.

If anyone sees Hugo, could you post a review?  I was shocked to see Scorsese's name on an animated film.  So far the feedback has been pretty good, and it's gotten me curious.

I really wanted to see it yesterday, but it was that or The Muppets...and that is NO CONTEST.   ;)

Btw...The Muppets was FANTASTIC.   Total nostalgia trip, but if you grew up with the Muppets, there is no way you don't love this movie.

Prolly meant 3D. I'll be seeing it sometime this week, probably the weekend.

Actually....from a passing glance at the poster...I thought it was animated.   But I just saw the trailer.   My apologies.

Still...it's an unusual project for Scorsese, don't you think?   Has he done (what appears to be) a "family film" before??

I took the kids to Hugo over the weekend and all three (6, 12 & 14) enjoyed it.  It is a bit slow, but it has an excellent plot, tremendous use of 3-D and amazing cinematography.  Great performances by Ben Kingsley & the guy from Bruno (blanking on his name).
I believe that this is Scorsese's first family film and he hit it out of the park.  Ebert had it as an A+ and our local movie reviewer was gushing over it as well.  I would give it an A-.

I do not understand the love this movie is getting at all. I found the movie to be predictable, the characters cliched and by-the-numbers. This was a very rare film that I purchased and transfered immediately to the sell stack after first viewing.

The Muppets - For what it is, it is very entertaining. A fun little trip to when I was a kid watching them on TV. Well done. And the Toy Story short that preceeds the film was fun as well. Good times with this one.

Martha Marcy Mae Marlene -- I thought the film was well acted, but ultimately this ended up being a terrible movie that was all build-up with no resolution (or even an inevitable final conflict that it seemed to be building toward). And supposedly this is getting some Oscar buzz.

The Next Three Days - really good movie, 8.5/10 - i think elizabeth banks is a little underrated in her skills, because shes so pretty.
great story, a bit implausible, but if you can overlook that then its a great time.

I just rented "Unstoppable." That was a pretty good film, at least as far as acting and suspense goes. I sort of remember when that story was in the news, but I couldn't for the life of me remember how they actually got it stopped.

It's just one point being hammered in over and over again from different angles to make dumb people feel smart.

I though it was going to be about crazy parents living through their kids but it ended up being about the work ethic of the kids themselves and where their drive came from in regards to their wide variety of social backgrounds.

The world Stevie lives in is almost alien to me. It also highlights the importance of a solid upbringing whilst covering regret and abandonment. Powerful stuff!

Actually I preferred this over TSN. A really well done movie with almost no actual baseball being played which is always a plus. I wonder if this will be the Oscar winner this year.

Some scenes in this movie were done so well and were so intense that I had to gasp for air even though I knew what was going to happen. Didn't get that reaction with the Swedish version... Recommended for anyone who likes dark mysteries/detective stories/thrillers.

Didn't care for some of the action scenes which were boring as hell, mostly by the end of the movie.

An oldie fantasy movie done with puppets. This movie sure has its flaws but the visuals are just great, no CGI here folks. Only the two main characters' puppets are weak, almost every other puppet in the movie works and looks like a masterpiece of craftsmanship. The plot is a by-the-numbers good vs. evil story, but done well enough to keep your interest through the movie. But I'd recommend this one for just the visuals alone.

Watched this Peter Jackson film that has been on my list for quite some time and was blown away. It tells the true story of two New Zealander teenage girls that become friends in the extreme and start plotting to be together forever and dealing with their parents' who are trying to break them up. The visuals in this movie are just great and the two leading actors are fantastic (other one being the young Kate Winslet).

Actually I preferred this over TSN. A really well done movie with almost no actual baseball being played which is always a plus. I wonder if this will be the Oscar winner this year.

I followed the jist of things and really enjoyed the film but a baseball fan would've got a lot more out of it methinks.
