FORUM DRUM-OFF 2002! Time to get judging! Saturday, April 27, 2002 8:53 PM (permalink)
    ***FORUM DRUM-OFF 2002***

The Drum-Off site is as follows, and was made by our own rveety.
    http://ryanspc.com/drum_off/

Login With your regestered screen name with the pasword " temp" . All you data should be entered already. You may change your password if you wish. After you have signed in, browse for your MP3 solo. Upload it onto the server. To listen to your solo and other solos, click on their name at the main listing. It would be a good idea to listen to all of the solos.

The judges will be myself, Ytsetone, and xthesolox. Each judge must listen to *every* solo and email me their scores. When they have listened to all of the solos to pick their winner, I will announce it on the Forum. The winner in each division will recive the Tokyo Japan Clinic DVD.

In order for the judges to make their final decision, all of the prize fees MUST be sent to Jeff Wyatt. Email me for his address. Once he gets your fee, he will post that he has gotten it on the Forum. Remember all orders MUST be in before the Judges can make their final choice.

This is the list of all who are competing in the Drum-Off:

-All solos must be no longer than 3 minutes
    -No overdubs
-Don' t lie about your drumming ability
-In order to compete, you MUST pay the fee of $3.00 (this goes to the prize)
    -No flaming about solos
    -Keep it fun!

The solo' s will be judged on the following aspects:
    -Originality
    -Musicianship

As soon as possible!!! For some that might be right now this miunte, for others it is a week later!
But as time goes on, and people still dont have a solo up, I think I'll notify them and give them a 2-day warning or somthing. If the solo is not up by then, they are disqualified (spelling?!).

A Question. Do we have Tony Royster Jr.s amongst us? or Damien Corniola's (12 year old freaks) ?

Just curious, if something like 20 people send in $3, what is going to be done with the extra money?

Also, I hope the judges are more than capable on judging everyone on the piece. Not the quality of their equipment. Because my kit is in dire need of a tune up, but also new skins and I can't afford to reskin my kit at this point in time...

Yeah it will be judged not by kit at all. Anybody would by a shitty kit just to play drums. If you can truly play drums, any kit will sound good.

As one of the judges, I can say that as long as I can hear what they play thats all that matters. I'm more interested in the quality of the content instead of the recording. Good Luck to ALL.

I looked into the eyes of the swat team as they surrounded us at the Palace and wondered Does he even know who Dream Theater is????

If everything goes as planned, I hope to have my solo recorded and up by tomorrow evening! I'm planning on focusing a bit more on grooving and developing interesting patterns within it, making it musical in-and-of-itself, rather than trying to show off speed and technical chops (mainly because I don't have any )...how's everyone else's coming along?

Having a professional/huge kit != being a good player! Hell, if having a huge kit meant you were good, then Baxter would be an amazing player! (and we all know THAT isn't true! )

I can't speak for the other judges, but I intend to judge every solo on the drumming, and not the kit it is being played on.

                                                    Good luck to everyone!

I made a couple small changes to the program tonight:
                                                      • Now contestants can change their own password without asking an admin
                                                      • Contestants get a little speaker next to their name once they upload

If anyone has ideas for new features or would like to report a bug just let me know.

I have a couple of requests
Can aussie's only pay $5 austrlian.
                                                        1) There will still be left over money
                                                        2) It's easier to mail over a $5 note, than with another coin in there

Plus, can we make the solo length 3->4 mins?

And, will anyone be able to tell me if the DVD will work in Aussie players?

The first time you login use "temp" as your password. Then immediatly change the password to something you'll remember. The last time I wrote a program that used the forum password people wouldn't use it because they were afraid of getting their forum account hijacked by me (though I would never do such a thing).

I have 2 questions about this...

                                                              1) I had expressed interest in participating, but never was contacted about any of it, and I see I'm not on the list. Is the list the closed list of people that can participate, or those that have sent in the fee?

                                                              2) If the list is expandable, when is the deadline to have an MP3 submitted?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know it shouldn't be a problem as long as your entry fee and solo are provided by the deadline (whenever that may be).

I'm using MusicMatch right now and it blows. The thing is, I have a lot of peaks in my wav file, which aren't bad to listen to in-and-of themselves, but when converted to mp3 (with musicmatch), they sound like CRAP.
