The Special edition wont be a Dual Disc will it?

ACK!!! Damn, I hadn't even though of that. I sure hope not.

I was more concerned with praying that both versions will be available in a jewel case packaging.

If there's one thing I hate more than Dual Discs, it's digi-craps.

I can almost assure you that it will be a digi-pack. If not, it will at least have a slip case with the SE artwork on it, but it will almost certainly will be a digi... It won't be a Dual Disc, though, because it can only hold a single layer dvd and a 60 minutes long cd, and given the fact that the dvd has a 90 minute movie and a whole album in 5.1 and the album is 78 minutes long or so, it can't happen, so no worries there. It will have both a regular CD and a DVD. The regular CD will be housed in a jewel case. I'll buy both for my collection. Pre-order the SE, buying the RE when I spot it on a store...

DREAM THEATER'S upcoming release "Systematic Chaos" will be released on Tuesday June 5th (date may vary in different countries) and will be available in two formats: 

Regular Edition CD:
  


and a Special Edition CD and DVD:

 
The Special Edition DVD will include:

--- the entire album mixed in 5.1 surround sound
--- "Chaos in Progress - The Making of Systematic Chaos"
(a 90-minute documentary directed by Mike Portnoy)

2. Forsaken (5:36)
3. Constant Motion (6:55)
4. The Dark Eternal Night (8:51)

The band will shoot a video next week for the first single off the album, "Constant Motion".

in the presence of enemies is divided into 2 parts but is a total of 25 mins+

I think DT would be the best band in the world to be in right now. I mean, think about it...with the state of the music business right now, most mainstream artists are suffering more than usual cuz no one wants to buy albums any more. Meanwhile...Portnoy comes on his computer,types a few words, and everyone goes nucking futs about the new album and a lot of us saying they're going to buy both!!! Like how great is that? They even sell out concert tours...have ytsejam records...how much better does it get for a band? I mean,sure they have to deal with crap like spoiled fans,and leaked info but when it comes down to it...people are still seling out their shows AND buying their albums...all the versions...hehe...

DT...YOU GUYS ROCK!!

The answer to whether a 5.1 disc will play on a cd player is there. The answer to whether it's a dual disc is there (two discs folks... TWO :) Two totally different kinds of discs at that.)

Oh, and to answer the question about the DVD playing on a computer. It will not mess up on a computer anymore than it would on a DVD player hooked to a non 5.1 system. The stereo audio option will default if the software does not detect a 5.1 output. If it doesn't, you just go into the audio setup menu and select the way you'd want to hear it... even then, the 5.1 will be summed to stereo via logic.

On another note... the video discussion... I'd think Mike would have been referring to the budget of the old deal. One thing he mentioned not too long ago is that DT does not need tour support, and has NEVER had it from WB anyway. I'm sure part of the sweetness of the current deal was Roadrunner's willingness to budget a lot of cool things that a deal with tour support (as most of RR's bands probably have) allows easily if you're just not too greedy on the label side. Jordan mentioned how excited he was about this deal because of all the exciting things RR was willing to do. These are the first big examples of it.... and I think from a fan's perspective, it will be one of the best things that ever happened to DT as long as the music continues to blow us away. Since 8V started bringing back the type of instrumental section we'd loved on IAW, I see no reason to believe that DT isn't evolving and managing to get back to touching on the things we loved way back when, and having the elements we've grown to love since FII introduced new elements of what DT can be about.

I for one am rather excited about what's ahead... especially since 8V might be my favorite DT album since IAW.

Simply awesome!!! I can't wait! I'll definitely have to get both, one for the car and one for home.  This album sounds like it's going to be dark and heavy, kinda like TOT but with Octavarium thrown in and the lyrics of The Killing Hand and Metroplis (my assumption is based on this thread, in case some haven't seen it: http://www.mikeportnoy.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=1611518 ).  What's not to love?

Holy shit balls... ill definatly be picking up both versions of this as well as both versions of snakes and arrows. Has anyone reached a verdict on whether of which the dvd editions of each of these albums will be "limited"? I hope to Christ that they arent, because I needs to have em.

That special edition is probably the coolest album cover I've ever seen. Imagine a huge version of it suspended
from the ceiling with the ants looking as big as cars....whoa!!
