the subject matter doesnt interest me until ive listened to the album thru once or twice...then i go back and from then on,learn about the songs...read about the subject matter, all that stuff.I love all that...frankly,i dont give a damn if its a political record,or a religious record or this or that...i just love dt and what they do...doesnt bother me.All the people saying i hope its not this or that, well when it comes time when you see them llive and their "political" song starts, you gonna walk out for 10 mins till its done be like "oh man,i hate when they do political junk"?come on now,of course not...music is an experience it alters one's perception of a passage through time(stravinsky) so who cares if its "x" music is music....and DREAM THEATER RUUUULES!!!! CANT WAIT FOR THIS ALBUM!!

For those of you wondering about the theme of Prophets of War, read my signature and you'll get a fairly accurate idea

Hey Mike, a particular Polish friend of mine said that his website has the track lengths for Systematic Chaos, and he is about to upload them on his site! You had better hurry and post them here before you get beat to breaking the news!
The problem is, or rather one of the problems, for there are many, a sizable number of which are continually clogging up the civil, commercial, and criminal courts in all areas of the Galaxy, and especially, where possible, the more corrupt ones, this.

ORIGINAL: dreamtheater_mx btw i agree with setlist scotty, the song titles definately make reference to something religious, i dont like the idea to be DT so religious but the titles truly rock!!!! Holy crap - are you serious? I was being anything BUT serious when claiming that the songs were clearly religious (which goes back to the ASSumptions made by some fans for DT's last two albums, most specifically ToT). ToT was obvioulsy *not* a religious album (ItNoG is a commentary on religions and cults - it's not in anyway preaching to the listener) and I don't expect Systematic Chaos to be either.
Ever wonder if DT is gonna ever play your city or why they haven't played there yet? Click here to find out.

Very cool, the track titles suggest a dark nature...that's always good... Now I'm pretty amped about this new album.

honestly these are the best titles from any dream theater album i think... and i'm not just saying that because they're new. "The Ministry of Lost Souls?" how awesome is that? i'd like to chime in and say that i think the lyrics are going to be a step up as well. maybe some muse-inspired conspiracy-laden lyrics a la take a bow, eh? :P sounds far more... i don't know, like it's less personal, and more about the world around us. and i wouldn't be surprised if there's some kind of underlying concept, or theme, but i very much doubt it'll be a concept album in the truest form. also, i'm going to actually hit something if people keep on adding up the numbers to try and make things. they didn't count the numbers of letters in every word so that they add up to the mean number of tracks on any given live album or whatever. they threw some links with the octave into octavarium because it's their eighth album, and it's OVER now, so stop overanalysing these things. they didn't put In The Presence Of Enemies at the start and finish so the track numbers would add up to nine, i doubt the thought even crossed their mind. i hated the word "nugget" when octavarium came out, if it persists into systematic chaos's lifetime then there's some serious ass kicking to be done! :P

Love it! I am as excited as I can be over a tracklisting. The song titles put just a little bit more reality into the new release. I love how MP doles out a little info at a time to just reel you in. First the album title gets your imagination going, then song titles kick your anticipation up another notch. What's next, artwork? Actual song previews?? I cannot wait!!!

ORIGINAL: Ragutis ORIGINAL: bialkomat1 I hope Prophets Of War won't be another protest song, another Anti-Bush song or Anti-America Song... Out of curiousity, can you name the previous anti-Bush and anti-America songs DT have done... I'm getting older and my memory's not what it used to be. For the life of me, I just can't remember what they were. I didn't mean another protest song etc. made by DT, but made in whole music industry...

Oh yeah, didn't you know? Or for example if you write about the plight of the homeless and impoverished as compared to the lifestyles of greedy, filthy rich corporate CEOs who continue to take more and more, you must also be anti-America! Don't you love the logic?

I wouldn't mind having DT do protest song...assuming they write it with amazing Awake-type metaphorical lyrics, rather then the flat out Sacrificed Sons way.

The only thing that worries me is that we were all this hyped for Octavarium and we know how that turned out. I still think it will be a killer album though, hopefully in the vain of ToT.

ORIGINAL: Oblivion86 ORIGINAL: Setlist Scotty On a more serious note, thanx for sharing the track listing with us Mike! Woohoo! Can't wait to get the new one! BTW, what have you got against obscure Polish fan sites anyway? ORIGINAL: Wonderland Maybe Presence of Enemies will be like Shine on You Crazy Diamond.. with DT.. ooohhh That was my first thought upon seeing the two parts book end the whole album. Really tho, I'd bet its more just the concept of an epic split in two parts to be at the beginning and end. First PF, then PT and now DT...OMG ITZ A NUGGITT!!!!11!1 Count me in as one who thought of SYOCD when seeing the Presence of Enemies bookends. This is going to be one wild rollercoaster ride. 104 days to go! My predictions: 1. In The Presence of Enemies Pt.1 (1st part of epic song) 2. Forsaken 3. Constant Motion (Instrumental?) 4. The Dark Eternal Night (sounds like a metal song ) 5. Repentance (Pts. VIII & IX of AA saga) 6. Prophets of War (the fan track of course; political track in the vein of Great Debate and Sacrified Sons) 7. The Ministry of Lost Souls 8. In The Presence of Enemies Pt.2 (epic song finale) The FAN SONG?! The Great Debate is a fan song? Sacrificed Sons is a fan song? Man, go check again! This is not U2, this is Dream Theater...

This is so funny. I wasn't on here yesterday. I come on today and there's this new thread and it's already on page 9!! I'd say we are a group of people who are eagerly awaiting this new recording.

maybe constant motion ITPOE pt1 the instrumental ITPOE pt2 the epic thats my feeling Im thinking the same way. DT has been opened their cd's with instrumental's before (SFAM, 6DOIT disc 2) so I wouldn't be suprised if they did it again. And I think since they hyped up the idea that there is going to be an Epic this time around, they wouldn't just split it in half, knowing that it would disapoint many fans, so they probably took the first 3-5 minutes of the Epic and put as the first track, so the song doesnt loose too much of its epicness. Now concerning that 1st track everyone heard at the studio...that was obviously pushed back as the 2nd track to make room for the begining of the epic. And I can make that asumption because when you guys went there Mike said there were 7 tracks, and now there is 8...so obvoisly they changed the albuma round since then and either one song was added or one song was split in half. But who knows, The Presence of Enemies might not even be the epic at all

Yeah i didn't know if Mike said anything about the amount of songs at the acual studio with you guys, but during interviews and anoucements in the last few weeks hes been saying that there would be 7 songs, and now theres 8. Unless when he said 7 songs, he was meaning that the one song was split in half.

It's going to be real funny if In The Presense Of Enemies turns out not to be so much like Shine On You Crazy Diamond, but more like Pigs On The Wing instead...

ORIGINAL: Portnoy Just minutes ago myself, JP and Paul Northfield signed off on the final mix of the new album! We are absolutely floored!! I NEVER say this about a new album (as it's so cliched for an artist to say this about their latest release), but I honestly think this may be my favorite DT album to date!!! It really has EVERYTHING! John and I will be mastering next Tuesday and shortly after that, I'll release some more info (song titles, etc.) I cannot wait for y'all to hear this thing!!! It's gonna be as torturous for me as it will be for you waiting til June!!!! MP CATACLYSMICSYSTEMATICHAOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Don't suppose you could release it next month? The very, VERY BEST of 'Oirish' with the mastering! Yours in continued awe! JMcE. P.S. If it's not 'In The Presence of Enemies', I'm going with either 'The Dark Eternal Night' or 'The Ministry of Lost Souls' as the 25-minuter as I can't really see them as a chorus - it's called hedging one's bets!
DT - BEST Goddamn band on the planet! JLB - Canada's greatest (ever!) export - WHAT a voice! 'SCORE' - the canine's gonads! I see a Rainbow rising ...
