RE: Live near NYC?? Want to be on the new DT??

Kellisco is right. Just got back from the line. I got there like 12:40 and envelopes with lyrics contained were handed out (obviously with instructions not to open until you enter). Dunno exactly when they were handed out, but I do know some people are pissed that they were handed out well before the 1PM start time. But I'll leave that gripe to Cecillia who is at this very moment trying to finagle an envelope from someone. I took a few pics with my phone (of the line) but this new Verizon plan is fucking with me. Whenever I email them to myself I get this stupid "sign up for Get it Now" email. Anyways, there were about 100-150 people on line when I left. Bitterly cold over there by the water too. 50 of them had envelopes. That line and the slim chance of getting in couldn't stand up to my warm office, so here I am. Not really all that dissapionted as I figured peeps would be there mad early (like 8AM and I was right). Hell if they've been there that long they deserve the envelopes. I do however, feel bad for Cecillia. She's come so close so many times to meeting Mike yet never has. If I had an envelope I would have given it to her. I on the other hand have met Mike many times (including doing the drum solo with him on the FII tour), so I NEVER have the right to bitch about anything DT related. So that's the story. First eye-witness account. Cool!!!

I still don't really see how disobeying the rules can be right, in any case? [edit] I'm not exactly putting anyone down, but I just fail to see how "No turning up before 1pm" means "Be there for 8am and queue until someone gets annoyed and gives them out anyway"?

Something told me this was going to turn into a clusterf**k, and I sincerely hope that MP doesn't get the backlash, though I expect he will. All told, I hope those that got in had a memorable experience, and I really hope no one is asinine enough to post the lyrics they were given to chant, as I'm sure that MP will want to keep a lid on those as well. Congrats to those that got in, though!

Who's to stop someone from waiting across the street at 8 am? Sucks, but people find a way. I hope Cecilia gets in. Good point, James. I hope that no one would post the lyrics here, but who's to say that they won't end up on Blabbermouth.

For what it's worth they weren't on line that early, they were "mulling around" and accross the street. C'mon, you had to know people were gonna do that. If it weren't so damn cold Ida went earlier too.

The studio is NOT going to hire someone just to play line police. They were going to do this the easiest way possible, which is go outside sometime around 1ish and hand out 50 envelopes to the first 50 people online, no matter what time they actually showed up. You can complete this action in about 5 minutes, rather than waiting outside in the freezing cold and making sure no one shows up to the line before the stroke of 1. I think the whole "Don't show up before 1 PM, or you won't get in" was just a way to keep people from freezing out there (It was 9F in NYC at 6 AM this morning). That still didn't keep die-hards from lining up early, which I knew they would do anyway. As long as everything works out with incident, it'll be alright.

Just got back to work here at 34th street. Damn, it's COLD!!!! Anyway, got there around 12:30 or so and was told that envelopes were already handed out. I'd say there was over 100 people there. I wasn't thrilled, but it only cost me a train ride (and maybe a cold). I stayed for about 5 minutes milling around. A few people were actually trying to BUY evnelopes from the lucky ones who had them! Anyway, hope all who get in give us all a detailed report (as much as they are 'allowed" to tell us anyway).

What a bummer for the people who waited to get in line like they were supposed to. I think everyone had a feeling something like this would happen. I think because of the weather the studio people felt sorry for folks and passed out the envelopes for them already. Good luck to any more peeps who may get in. And please, NO ONE COME ON HERE AND GIVE SHIT TO MP FOR THIS.

Can't say I didn't see this coming. The guards outside of the studio aren't going to care about whether people actually get in line at exactly 1. Hell, I'd probably do the same thing. This reminds me of when I saw DT at the warfield, and the platinum ticket holders had their own line, but since the publicist didn't show up, the bouncers were just going to put us in the back of the line of 2000 people with regular tickets. I mean, a few people helped us bitch our way out of that, but still, it's a rock band with die hard fans waiting to get inside a building. What do you expect? Oh, well, not the bands fault.

I'm sure MP tried to keep to the plan. There were probably other circumstances involved that we don't know about which forced a plan B.

To those that got in: good luck, hope you all have fun! To those that didn't: go grab a beer. Or go to Starbucks and have some hot chocolate. Or, even better, go to Max Brenner (right near Union Square; find the nearest yellow or green line) and have some fucking kickass hot chocolate and dessert!

Gotta agree with those saying that this was somewhat expected. It's impossible to keep something like this 100% controlled, which is just another reason to thank Mike for putting himself and the band out there for this option. Very cool idea and I hope that it works out for all involved!

ORIGINAL: Sam I Am Hmmm... I want to say something, but I am not exactly sure how to say this without sounding like a bitch. Furthermore, I want it to be understood that this thought is STRICTLY MINE... I HAVE NOT SPOKEN TO MIKE ABOUT THIS. Just reading this thread from a "fan's perspective" I can feel the excitement and energy this opportunity has created, and I think that's great. But I've read a few posts that also made me think "don't push your luck". Asking about cameras, suggesting a "meet and greet", feeling territorial about "your" turf... I'm not sure if those were sincere or just jokes, but it made me a little nervous. I can't help but think about the lyrics of "Never Enough". This sounds like a very generous offer made by Mike and the band. Why can't that be enough? Enjoy it for what it is and respect the boundaries that come with it. If you let it be, it will be a memorable experience for 40 lucky fans. Don't make it into something people will live to regret. Strictly MY 2 cents. Take Care.... ~ Sam I like your attitude your cool...

I agree - I think Sam nailed it with her post. Regarding those who did or did not get in, I echo those who said NOT to blame MP or the band. Quite frankly, I expressed my concerns to MP (over everyone's safety - I was thinking people would be bolting to get across the street and fighting for a place in line) and he mentioned that among others, the studio was also very concerned. So my guess is that the studio decided to do what they felt they had to, to insure that it wasn't gonna become a nightmare. Sucks for those following the rules, but what are you gonna do? In any case, this is something very cool for the band to do, and I would've been there in a heartbeat if I lived in NYC. For those who got to be a part of it, enjoy the moment. And for those who DID follow the rules (and got shortchanged) - cheers to you for doing what you were supposed to!

That really sucks for the people who actually tried to abide by Mike's instructions. I wish that something would have been done to enforce his rules. I'm sure that he probably left word with the studio, and someone there screwed up.

The only way to avoid what has happened is to do some type of random "raffle" of available fans prior to the event. Doesn't matter now, though. I just can't wait to hear the new material!

I think anyone with some common sense could have seen that, while this was very well intended, it would turn into a logistical/organizational nightmare. I did not want to say anything before since I might have been chased with pitchforks and torches.

God, I just back from Louisville, KY, last night for a business trip and HAD to come into the office today. It pains me that I couldn't take off from work and jet over to NYC since it is a PATH train ride away. Oh well. Maybe they won't have any new music to report...maybe Mike just gave them a click track to chant along to!

Figuring MP made the rule, those of us who followed them and were in the back of the line at 1:00 - 1:05, I thought HE would come out and take care of us who followed his word. It's not right, those who followed the rules froze their asses off & got screwed. I appreciate Mike giving the fans the chance for something like this, but there has to be a way to enforce what you set up. Mike (if you read this) thanks for the chance and opportunity, hopefully I'll see you at Uncle Ralphie's while he recovers from surgery.
I'm already dead, it's a matter of time
