Live near NYC?? Want to be on the new DT??

Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, what I'd give to live in NYC right now!!  How f****** awesome is this.  This has to be the coolest thing MP has ever done for us fans, besides all the DVDs and meet & greets.  Scream loudly for us guys!!  Later!!

There is no other band like Dream Theater. They are the quintessential musicians of our time, and the best band I've ever heard. The music industry wouldn't be the same without them.

That's okay.  I'm really, *really* tempted to call in sick on Friday and make the 3 hour drive myself.  It would be nice to know how widespread this announcement is.

I wish there were a way to limit entry to members of the Official Fan Club (say, for example, prior to Jan 1) so that true fans get a chance over random people who may stumble upon it on Blabbermouth and just want to get on a CD (any CD).

The only reason I'm feeling pretty good about it on Blabbermouth is, if you look at the comments, it really doesn't seem like anyone who visits the site appreciates them enough.  The more for us!!

Everyone is so excited about doing it, not enough people are excited that there will be huge 40 person chanting on the album...

Imagine the possibilities.  I was thinking, what if it was the next part of the AA saga with a reprise of the "Hey! Hey! Hey!" riff from the glass prison, but with a mob of people.  How sweet would that be?

Dude, I am soooo there. I'm not holding out any high hopes for entry though...be cool to have just a me and 2 dozen others show up, but I'm guessing the number will be much higher. I'm not sure Mike even realizes what he's getting himself into.

1. This is an incredibly cool idea, but I have concerns that it may be an on-site logistical nightmare.
   
2. If little Perth (population ~ 1,000,000) can find 200-odd fans to line up to meet Mike briefly and get something signed (thanks, Mike!), how many people can New York find to volunteer to actually perform on a DT CD? 1000, perhaps? More?
   
3. Anybody turning up at 1 PM will find at least several hundred fans "not lining up" near the door. I pity the security guys that will have to deal with the ensuing melee and try to work out which 30-40 fans are "first".
   
4. I know metal fans are generally a pretty good bunch of people, but not everybody is reasonable and violence is possible.
   
5. I forsee bitching and moaning from some of those who don't make it, both on site and on line afterwards.
   
6. If there is moaning, I forsee it pissing off Mike, who won't want to do anything like it again. That would be sad.

Maybe it's not too late to suggest an alternative? How about an on-line line instead? It doesn't have to be fancy or technical, just start a new thread and the first 40 (or 50, to allow for wastage) to post in the thread get emailed or PMed a numbered invitation (your email is up to date, isn't it?), which they need confirm, print out and bring with them. That way, the door chaos is avoided and uber-fans who want to travel long distances to do this will not feel excluded. That doesn't include me, by the way: unfortunately, there's no way I could make it.
 
Not complaining, just suggesting. Whatever happens, I hope it's a great success.

Alright, i'd say that I'm 75% sure that I will be making the long trip from Minnesota to New York City for this... Do I feel that I should be "in" for sure for this? Kind of.. I feel like I will be coming from the farthest location away to make this a reality for me. But I guess we'll need to see what happens on Friday at 2pm.
 
It is going to be a nightmare though.. there will be 100 people out there muddling around all morning but not "forming a line".  People with Majesty tattoos should be automatically inline in front of nubs who will show up to be on any cd.

reminds me of the "Calls to God" thing Pain of Salvation did with BE. Yours truly participated, and while my call did not end up on the album, it did end up on the BE DVD
 
I'd love to, but I can't conceivably afford it. "Chanting"..I don't question the guys ability to have it sound how they like and good..in key, etc. But the 1st thing that popped into my head when hearing this was a part of the album having a bunch of crazed (and sounding) drunken fans trying to chant..and being off-key and not totally together. But maybe that's something that I've heard a few too many times (including myself  in Karaoke sessions at the CONs

Gee I hope that the 40 that make it in can at least hold a tune & somewhat sing in key, remember this is going to be what we'll hear on the next all time classic DT album. Something to think about before you go that can maybe make the album sound stronger?

I have to think if it was something that required singing actual notes, then they wouldn't leave it up to a bunch of random people. Regardless, I have some choral experience, just don't ask me to hit LaBrie high notes.

That's the first thing I was thinking.  There will be no rhyme or reason for the fans showing up early to line up in an orderly and proficient manner.  Yeah, there will be people milling about all morning in the area, guaranteed.  Maybe its a clandestine sting operation to catch the impersonator also. 
 
Someone could film what happens at that door around 1:00p.m. and in the surrounding area.  Should be interesting to see how people conduct themselves.  Hopefully the random people that show up are cool and don't tarnish a great idea like this.
 
Don't take this the wrong way anyone, but couldn't help noticing some people are traveling from hundreds and hundreds of miles away, while Mike was asking for people who live near New York.  Someone traveling half way cross the country doesn't seem to qualify as "near New York."  Just one way of looking at it.  Hope everyone who goes from here does make it in, but hopefully won't piss and moan if you travel all that way and don't end up getting in.
