    ORIGINAL: Lomox

" Not everything has to be a war with you J. Edgar Hoover types." (anyone know what movie thats from?)

Ooh, ooh!!! I know. I' m so glad no one beat me to it.

It' s from the movie that is the yang to " Godfellas" yin:

    My Blue Heaven!

Did you know both of those movies were taken from the same book about Henry Hill?

Nick Pileggi wrote the book " Wise Guy" about the life of Henry Hill and guess who he is married to? You got it! Nora Ephron, the writer/director of " My Blue Heaven"

Oops, we were lied to again, and not in the form of plagiarism this time!

We' ve always been scared by the media into buying things. Remember the Y2K scare where people bought gallons of water and canned food because they were told the end of the world as they know it was about to happen? 2000 came and nothing happened. After Sept 11th, gun sales/home alarm sales almost doubled. How many people' s lives do you honestly think are going to be saved by duct tape? Do you think that the US' s duct tape supply would have been exausted if the media didn' t say anything about it?

Have the bad guys won? I don' t think so because it ended up as a slight boost for the economy.

depends on who you think the bad guys are. if you think the bad guys are the terrorists, then yes, in a way they have one. terrorist try to cause terror, and if they can scare millions of americans into believing that duct tape is going to save them from the biological weapons they are supposedly producing, then they have succeeded in their mission: to create terror.

Well, if you' ve read the articles, they say the dirty bomb was imaginary. Looks like we caused terror on ourselves! We' re all terrorists!

I mean the US causes terror to innocent civilians all the time. So by that definition, we are terrorists also...

But we all know the real definition of terrorism is the unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.

That makes anyone who' s ever attacked in a war (or no war) a terrorist.

So since we are all terrorists, I use the term bad guys.

god damn would i pay some money to see someones house that is all into thinking that this could honestly save you. I cant beive some people buy into this kind of stuff, seems like what the bomb shelter scare would have been like. the pathetic thing is, is that its one of the headlines on all the big news stations. who cares about anything important, everyone is buying duct tape. pretty pathetic.

Guess I have to be 18 to understand this as humor.

I just feel so sorry for you.

You don' t live in upstate NY do you? I saw, on the news this morning, this emphatic guy in upstate NY wrapping his house in plastic and duct tape. Just made me think of you.

You know I never usually get angered by individuals on this board, because I' ve learned to take everything I read with a grain of salt. But you my freind are the very personification of the conservative attitude that is leading the world down the fuckin toilet. And I' m not even totally anti-war with Iraq! Because I know your opinions are shared by many, reading what you write makes me sad, angry and a bit afraid of the world to come.

              My Blue Heaven!

You got it! Yeah same book by Pileggi, two totally different perspectives. They share a similar line too, at the very end of Goodfellas and at the dinner with all the relocate mobsters in My Blue Heaven. " The other day I drove 25 miles to a place I heard had good Marinara sauce...please." -MBH and " The other day I tried to get some pasta with marinara sauce...egg noodles and ketchup." -Goodfellas.

              Love those lines!!

Anyway, BOTH movies are boycotted in my neighborhood becuase they glorify a " RAT." And seeing as much of Goodfellas took place around here, he sent alot of my neighbors to prison and hurt the community at large. And in this community a RAT is THE worst thing you can be.

Personally, I think they are all too sensitive and need to appreciate the good work of Mr. Scorcese and what he captured in his film.
