I think this forum doesn't talk enough about drummers anymore so LET S TALK ABOUT DRUMMERS !!! I need some help here please. Can you recommand me some CDS with these drummers that everybody is talking about on this forum . I would like to hear their most technical performance or most inspired performance or both (that's even better ! ) THE NOMINEES ARE : DENNIS CHAMBERS ( I have his latest project with Garsed/hemmerich ) In CAB, does CHAMBERS smoke or not ?????? TERRY BOZZIO (I have vai sex and religion age of impact and both levin/stevens cds) VIRGIL DONATI ( I have both planet x cds ) DAVE WECKL VINNIE COLAIUTA ( I have his albums with sting but I guess he's not showing his chops on these) SIMON PHILLIPS MIKE MANGINI (I have his cds with vai and extreme) I am looking forward for your answers !!!!!!!!!! P.S : Everybody's saying that DONATI 's double bass drum work on DOG BOOTS from planet X cd is good but I am not really impressed ! In death and black metal , I've heard really sick double bass drumming immortal : HORGTH slayer :DAVE LOMBARDO PAUL BOSTAPH sepultura : IGOR CAVALERA morbid angel : PETE SANDOVAL dimmu borgir : NICHOLAS BARKER judas priest/racer X : SCOTT TRAVIS death : GENE HOGLAN ( incredible drummer !!!),RICHARD CHRISTY,SEIN REINERT ( former CYNIC now in AGHORA ) and the list goes on !!!!!!!!!!! BUT don't flame me, I am not a drummer so I don't really understand all of the odd time signature stuff and all so my judgement MAY BE WRONG ! sorry for my bad english cuz I am francais ( FRENCH ! ) AND BY THE WAY : PORTNOY AND DT FUKIN' ROCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dennis Chambers - smoke in CAB??? Is Laetitia Casta hot? Also, all the Niacins. Terry Bozzio - Explorer's Club, and lest we forget.... Jordan's "Feeding the Wheel! Isn't he on Jeff Beck's "Garage....something, damnit....someone help me out here. I'm a veg, David, Donnie. Virgil Donati - On the Virg "Serious Young Insects", Ring of Fire "The Oracle" Dave Weckl - I like "Synergy" the best. Vinnie Colaiuta - the only I know real well is Jing Chi. Simon Phillips --- WOW.....what a list you could make! His solo stuff "Protocol", "Another Lifetime", "Symbiosis". Derek Sherinian's "Inertia". Going WAY back, JP's "Sin After Sin". I'm not into Toto very much, but most of their stuff has him I think. This guy has played on a TON of albums. The Tony Levin of drums. Mike Mangini - How about Mullmuzzler? Both. I was just listening to the first one a few days ago.....his drumming is sick. I'm sure the rest of the guys will have a veritable plethora of choices........Chambers and Phillips esp.

Gregg Bissonette--Andy Summers' "The Last Dance of Mr. X". Really good fusion. Well done and well played. Some better stuff for both Bozzio and Colaiuta are the old Frank Zappa records. That's where both really, REALLY earned their stripes. Zoot Allures, Sheik Yerbouti, all volumes of Joe's Garage,You are What You Is, Shut Up 'n' Play Yer Guitar, numerous volumes of You Can't Do That Onstage Anymore, etc. should have ample repertoire performed by both drummers. Bozzio--try the Polytown release with Mick Karn and David Torn. Also, the Lonely Bears and Brecker Brothers releases. UK's Danger Money. It seems a very natural state of affairs for men to have irrational moods and women irrational opinions. - Carl Jung

Dave Weckl i think is bessed when he play with Chick Coreas elektric and aucostic band cds. u should check them out. Im definatly more a fan of older Weckl shit then his new solo stuff. Specially he got rid of his guitarist for the Transition cd.

Dave Weckl: Synergy (this is his best musically wise in my opinion), Transition Vinnie Colaiuta: Colaiuta/Ford/Haslip - Jing Chi, Karizma - Document (also check out http://www.houseofdrumming.com/index2.htm, there are dozens of Vinnie Colaiuta mp3's and videos, including few clinics!) Sean Reinert: Cynic - Focus, Aghora - Immortal bliss none of them knew they were robots.

Weckl is great on the Chick Corea Electik Band material. Get the self titled, Beneath the Mask, Eye of the Beholder etc.. Chambers in John McLaughlin Free Spirits. Fast is fun

Some more... Dennis Chambers: His work with John McLaughlin is pretty amazing... check out song called "Jazz-jungle", I'm sure that'll convince you. I also have a kickass video of him performing with Mike Stern in some sort of jazz-festival (if my memory serves me correctly, in Montreal) including Chambers' 15 min. drumsolo... that is something to look out for, if you ask me. I'm not sure if that's an official release tho... ...and of course I have to promote Finnish drummers! Check out band called Kingston Wall. (you can find them from audiogalaxy) Download songs "We cannot move", "Could it be so?" and "Waste of time" for example. Their drummer Sami Kuoppamäki is a sick bastard. none of them knew they were robots.

Sir Real, are you a fan of Vesa Ranta? That boy has some pretty quick feet on "North From Here".

One of the tracks features an extended solo from Chambers, and the album showcases the amazing bassist Matt Garrison. ****** Matt Tedesco

I'm not huge fan of their music, tho... Also, there is this awesome new prog/death-metal group coming from Finland called Throne of Chaos... their drummer is pretty sick too... and I know him, heh. none of them knew they were robots.
