Just got home from picking it up. I am listening to it now for the first time. So far it is very interesting. I will have to wait until this weekend to really listen to it, I have a test tomorrow that I have to study for and plus my daughter is home. Listening to Pull Me Under, and it is very cool.

ORIGINAL: ShadowWalker Other than the order of the songs on the CD not matching the artwork, I think this is a pretty good disc Another example of what happens when I DON'T oversee every aspect... (the Gigantour DVD/Dimebag tribute being the other recent example...) Don't let it ever be questioned why I am the control freak I am with DT... MP

I heard Iron Man from the Sabbath tribute and was very disappointed... is the DT tribute that much better? I mean, I am going to get it for completion purposes, but is it really that good?

I gotta wait til next week to get it, since they don't have any at the local bookstores, but I'm sure it's worth the wait
You don't know how fast you were going? So then I can write whatever I want on the ticket then, huh?

Has anyone else tried ordering it online? I've been trying to order it off of the vitaminrecords website, but I get an error screen instead of the 'order complete' screen.

Actually, I got that too, but if you log into vitaminrecords, click on my account, you'll only find the order in the incomplete section. I just tried paying for it again using paypal instead of my credit card and it's now in the pending status. I think the email was just to tell you that the order exists, not that it is complete.

I am almost done listening to it for the first time, (not getting much studying done right now, huh) and I have to say it quite well done. My favorites so far are LSOAD, Ytse Jam, TDOE. I am on the last one, Hell's Kitchen and that might be added to above list real soon. Yup, it's on there now. You should all definitely pick this one up. Well worth it. Thanks Mike!

ORIGINAL: Portnoy Another example of what happens when I DON'T oversee every aspect... DOH!!!... riiiiiiight... I agree that whenever you get involved, things get done (the proven "if you want it done right, do it youself" thing), but... I think when people have enough desire to not make stupid mistakes, it is quite possible to do something right without you Mike... I think there are perfectionists out there besides you. I know that you want DT represented in the best way possible and as a result try to take as much as you can upon youself in order to avoid unnecessary bumps, but this comment came off a bit like a self-compliment and an insinuation that unless you get involved, no one ever does anything right. Perhaps DT has been surrounded by one or two competent people in its 20 years of existence that ACTUALLY DID things right here and there and it is a shame that this fact is kinda overshadowed by a statement like this! Much of DT's success is due to your perseverance and passion in what you do, but what about all the people that actually did try their best to help you succeed (and sometimes with great results). This isn't a slam on you, or anything, just an observation of mine that was rather surprising to me, as I have always perceived you to be a rather humble guy (which is oh so refreshing in a music world full of egos (see VH, GnR, Metallica, the Police, etc.)) Rock!

I put it in the cd changer in my Jeep and found myself singin along to the whole cd... well, the songs that have lyrics! I am quite impressed! Which means I'm now going to have to spend more money and check out some the other tributes.

Aside from a variety of other releases from Vitamin, I own about 8-10 String Quartet Tributes, including The Who's Tommy, Rush's 2112 and Exit Stage Right, The Mars Volta, Foo Fighters, Ours, Dave Matthews and a few others. I have to say, this one ranks way up there, somewhat due in part to the instrumental insanity that is DT. I found myself doing something I've never done before....air conducting....like air guitar or drums, but instead I'm conducting this imaginary string section. That of course led to air violin....then air cello (and nothing looks as silly as air cello). I'm off to the therapist now. TDOE and Ytse Jam alone make this purchase well worth it. Close your eyes and pretend a string quartet is in front of you and this CD rules. If you pretend it's a band trying to cover DT, you will start to pick it apart and you'll be missing the point...it's an interpretation, not a cover.

WOW - finally picked this up today and was blown away as well. I actually found myself head banging to it in spite of the quartet aspect! Very cool - I particularly enjoyed Hell's Kitchen. I also was a little disappointed at the lack of attention to detail on the track listing thing, but it's minor. It may have inspired me to attempt to learn some more of the stuff from Met. Pt. 2 on guitar... Later - Mike P.S. My daughter is taking Violin lessons and she said that she was really liking it as well \m/
Yeah, I can play all of John Petrucci's music... At 1/4 speed!!!

Great versions of all the songs on this one as I think I snagged the last copy of this in the Albany area. Couldn't find it at any FYE and snagged it at a Borders in Saratoga - during a snow squall even! Dedication baby.

Received mine in the mail yesterday and have only heard it once, but I gotta say that I really like it. I own two String Quartet Tributes to Tool and this one is way better. They stay true to the originals for the most part and they pull off the music very well. I found myself really getting into the music and headbanging along with some of the speedier "metal" passages and was quite moved by the mellow moments. Lifting Shadows Off A Dream sounds like the song was originally written for strings. I think maybe DT translates b eter to this type music than most bands due to the fact that I have always found their writing very symphonic in nature. Was I the only one who got quite a chuckle out of "Eat my axe and bows"?

I recieved mine today. It's even better than I expected! I like As I Am the best because it's so dark and evil, which I feel is the best kind of music to play on string instruments. The DOE ragtime solo translated really nicely, and the "drum solo" in ytse jam ... these guys have a good sense of humour. I'd recomend this to any dt fan.

eMusic.com has it available for immediate download... although a general warning for those of you that aren't yet members -- eMusic is VERY addictive. All the Inside Out bands are on there; all the Opeth CDs prior to Ghost Reveries are on there; all the Nuclear Blast bands are on there...

I finally heard the String quartet's job.. Very good but.. I keep on preferring Giuseppetti's work.. Ytsejam is much more enjoyable, more full of rithm and "life"..
