i love tori amos. ive been a big fan for a long time.. and im finally getting to see her on march 7th! my sweetie got me tickets for xmas.. im so excited! :)

psst... not to be nitpicky, but Mazzy Star' s a band... Hope Sandoval is their singer.  and where' s Polly Jean Harvey on this list? not mainstream, but many listed aren' t exactly mainstream, either.

Last female singer music I bought was Jewel. Love her voice, lover her playing. Oh and those eyes...  But, Alanis Morisette is also a favourite of mine. I saw her live at Pink Pop Festival back in 1999, and wow, that was a perfect performance!

Avril Lavigne is a bit too juvenile for me... although some of her songs are quite catchy.
I remember the grungy kind of Shakira before her appearance unto the American scene. I dislike her now. Too much like a latin Britney Spears.
I' d have to go with Vanessa Carleton. I' ve heard a couple of songs on her CD which probably wouldn' t do too well as a single on the radio or MTV, but are pretty damn cool.
LOVE AND PEACE!!! - Vash the Stampede New York was fun. Didn' t get to see Symphony X there, though... darn!!

I' m an Enya fan, I admit it. So peaceful and relaxing. " Only Time" was overplayed around 9-11, but I still love that song... It gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, 'cause sinners are much more fun.

Tori and Fiona Apple. " when the pawn" = one of the best albums ever. same for Tori' s new disc.
God yes! I was thinking the same thing. Fiona Apple' s " When the Pawn..." is an incredible piece of work. So different and unique. No surprise it went completely unnoticed. And Tori' s new one is one of her best. As far as semi-mainstream female musicians, Tori is definitely my number one, but Sarah McLachlan' s " Fumbling Toward Ecstacy" is a great album and what about Aimee Mann? She' s got a slew of solid albums. While I' m on the subject of people no one' s mentioned, India Arie is pretty damn good. Maybe she' s not in the same genre as the rest, but she writes her own music, plays guitar and sings very well. That' s the tops in my book. And Sheryl Crow is a scarily ugly woman, anorexic, no-talent skank. I guess I shouldn' t be surprised that she' s become somewhat of a sex symbol, even though she' s, like, 50.

I used to think Lisa Loeb was really hot with that cat-eye glasses look and whatnot -- which I always dig -- but then I just happened to see her in person at a Tower Records CD signing and, ooh boy, it was a scary sight. Much different story. I actually have a few of her albums, but they' re so inconsistent. Half the songs are good and well-written with a very unique and different approach to song structures -- not your typical verse/chorus/v/c/bridge/c -- yet the other songs are absolutely average in every way. It' s very odd.

I actually think Lisa Loeb is hot...I' m a sucker for a girl with glasses or long hair.
Anyways, my vote goes to Vanessa Carlton...She has a great voice, awesome music (tasteful piano playing), with good lyrics. And it' s very catchy, I can' t stop playing her CD.
" Be Not Nobody" is the only other disc outside of LTE, DT and Al Di Meola that is on regular rotation in my CD player.
