Neil Peart's New Book "Roadshow: Landscape With Drums: A Concert Tour by Motorcycle " - Thursday, August 17, 2006 7:58 PM
I haven't seen a thread and the this thread here
says something about NP's new book.

You can order it

This thread must have slipped through the cracks.

I can't wait for this book myself. I'm waiting for it to be released in the UK and therefore getting it through Amazon UK, which is my easier channel to get this kind of stuff here in Portugal.

I was mesmerized by "Ghost Rider" and that's basically the effect everything Neil writes has on me. His prose is just entirely too beautiful, and so are most of his lyrics. I already read "Ghost Rider" twice and loved it even more the second time. While it's not my place to be I feel like I could follow Neil's life from his own point of view for a long time.

Unfortunately I scoured London the last time I went there, looking for Travelling Music, his latest book before Roadshow but had no luck finding it.

Can't wait for this one! We, Rush and music fans alike, are very lucky that Neil has come clean on the other side of a very very tragic of his life!

I've read Traveling Music, and I love his writing. I need to get Ghost Rider also. I plan on getting Roadshow, it sounds cool.

Score!

I'm really looking forward to this book.  I loved Travelling Music and Ghost Rider.  I have to give credit for Travelling Music getting me back into Rush, and in a big way.  Neil has been a huge inspiration for me lately.

This is actually great news and settles the whole Portnoy/Peart Working Man tribute debacle. I hated all those misunderstandings with a passion. I mean, why couldn't two of my favorite drummers of all time not get along?

Now, if you don't mind, we're eagerly scans of the whole book. And don't tell us you have no time to do that kind of stuff, working on a new DT album and all.

Ah, well, thanks for your input on this.

I'll just say that Neil and I have finally met and we spent some time together this week (not associated with Eddie Trunk BTW as mentioned...) and had a great time...

In his latest HOTD post, Mike stated there's some cool news just waiting to be unleashed and a few months ago he hinted at a music (though not playing) related project. I have no clue if both statements are somehow connected (and whether being in a position to be handed a copy of Roadshow by Neil himself as anything to do with it), but if there's one thing I know is that T3H MAN cannot disappoint us!

that would make a lot of sense.  Mike has stated that the next tour most likely wouldn't have evening with shows and Rush has been doing them for a while as well and might want to take a break too.

Im really excited, like I'm kinda freakin out.  A Rsuh DT tour would totally make sense because Rush is probably not to into the whole evening with three hour shows anymore and obviously DT arn't going to do that for a while.  Yeah I'm definitely freakin out.

That is the absolute coolest.  Many years in the arriving.  I wonder how long it will be before Neil watches his copy of the Score DVD (assuming he was set up with one)?  Other burning question would be: which DT albums does Neil have and what are a sampling of his thoughts on them?  Must. know.

Hmmm... Aren't Neil, Alex and Ged associate directors of a certain independent record label?

That's my guess... I just think it's too early for Rush or DT to be planning their tours... Rush is about midway through writing and recording... DT haven't even started AFAWK... Neither know when the albums will be done and ready for release.

But what the hell do I know?

From reading travelling music and seeing a sample of Neil's music tastes I kinda have a hard time believing he'd be really into DT.   I have no trouble believing he would respect them as musicians and that's  more than enough reason to go ontour with someone.

A RUSH/DT tour for 2007 !!!

Of course this is all speculation, but I bet DT would do just about anything to tour with Rush...even if it meant they only had 30-45 minutes and could only do a few songs.

Rush as a touring band seems to be just as popular as they've ever been...and Yes isn't nearly as popular as they once were.  So it isn't really fair to compare a possible Rush/DT tour to the Yes/DT tour from a few years ago.

I think everyone's getting a bit over-the-top with the speculation - is everyone forgetting that MP and NP are endorsed by the same cymbal company?  You have to imagine that some Portnoy/Peart marketing materials (posters, magazine ads and the like) would be some great stuff for Sabian.  Could've just been a photoshoot for all we know.

Or, it could be all the stuff previously mentioned.

Let's look at the possibilities here :

A RUSH/DT Tour ( The perspective of Peart riding the Siamese monster with MP revisiting Peart historical solos makes my brain explodes !!)

A musical collaboration on either a Rush or DT record !

A drum duet album a la Buddy Rich/Gene Krupa

Peart will write all the lyrics of DT's next record

A duo clinic tour ( but Peart is not on Tama so ...)

DT get signed on Rush's label Anthem for their new contract.

None of the above. MP is confused with reality, he didn't really met Neil.

Any other theories ???

Wow, Sean. Just wow, dude.

This thread literally has me salivating! I agree that it's a bit early to be announcing tours, but there are plenty of other cool things that could happen because of this meeting. I'm really happy for Mike that he finally got to meet Neil. Only good things can come of this!

Can you just imagine the excitement running through Mike 5 mins before he shook Neil's hand? I bet he was like any of us would be just before meeting him!

ANY collaboration - whatever it may be - between my 2 top bands of all time just about has me wetting myself! The only bad thing is - I'm in the UK and if there is to be a Rush/DT tour there's no way it would make it over here. America always gets the best shows.

Rush and Dream Theater tour that would be the best tour ever and i thought Dream Theater and Yes was good.

Wow!! Talk about taking advantage of your vacation! "How about going to Madison Square Garden for a Roger Waters show? You can be in soundcheck. Nick Mason will be there. You can also meet with your childhood idol Neil Peart and spend a couple of days with the guy!" "What the hell, I'm on vay-kay, let's do both!"

I never read NP's books. Are they actually good and which one would you suggest to pick up first?

I've got a copy of it already
It was personally handed to me and signed by the author!

Pfft. I've had Neil's autograph since '92.  Mike, if you were so anxious to meet a cool Canadian, you could have e-mailed me and asked for my address.

Fantastic news though! And my imagination is running wild on the "all will be revealed"[/Kashmir] comment.

This could totally work. They both play about 90 minutes and encore together. Could you imagine a YYZ/Ytsejam hybrid, Tom Sawyer, and Learning to Live encore with both bands?!?!

Rush have a HUU-UUUGE Southern audience and have played Nashville, Charlotte, etc.  Pairing them with DT... *knocks on formica*
Baldrick, what begins with "Come here" and ends with "Ow"?

If they tour together will we see a Rush/DT jam at the end like they did with Queensryche? Just imagine Peart and Peartnoy drumming together! ;-)

Whoa! Mike and Neil sharing the same space? I need new drawers and quick. That is awesome. Neil is the reason that I picked up sticks 16 years ago and Mike gave my playing focus after graduating college. Man, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall at that historic meeting. I can't wait to hear what has transpired from their meeting. Tour? Sabian clinic? Neil back with Tama? Book from Mike on his tour travels? Splicing their DNA together to make the ultimate, end-all Prog drummer? Clothing line? The mind boggles........

I pre-ordered "Roadshow" from Amazon but then saw that Rounder had it in stock on their website. I ordered it thursday and got it saturday! I'm already 200 pages in. Similar feel to his previous books. Kind of cool to get Neil's perspective on shows I was at on the R30 tour.

As for a Rush/DT tour, I jsut don't think that'll happen. Rush has been touring on their own for the last three tours and have stated that they find touring easier now that its "just them". I would imagine that their meeting had something to do with Sabian. I am curious though. I also wonder if Neil got to see Cygnus and the Sea Monsters and a "modern" version of his old kit.

Hmmm very interesting.  I read on a good Rush Blog (www.rushisaband.com) that Neil was *possibly* seen at Dalai Lama appearance in Cali this past week.  I wonder if Mike was in Cali?  Then again, Neil just did Eddie Trunk's show (is that based in NY?) and also a Sirius show (NY?)  Can't wait for the story!

I wonder if it is related to sabian or *gulp* DW??

I just heard the Peart interview from Sirius radio (hear it on www.rushisaband.com ) and now know that Neil was in New York last week or so for this interview.  I wonder if Mike and Neil were both at the Roger Waters show?!?

Like this one (perfect center).   Same stage where "All The World's A Stage" was recorded.

This photo looks close to one the above link.  I always wondered if the drum set was ever positioned in the same place as Peart's set was for those shows of 1976.

Congrats Mike! Now you finally get to know how it feels when you meet some one you admire (not saying this is the first time, but you get my drift)..........and know how we feel when we meet you.
Looking forward to the reviews from you.

and BTW, any chance of DT hooking up with Marillion in the near and or distant future? THAT I think would be an amazing collaboration!!!!!
