That' s right! The BBKings Warm Up gig gets a fresh spin.

This is a previously unavailable recording of the January 19th 2002 show at BBKings in New York City! IMHO this is better than any of the other 3 versions in circulation, complete right down to MP' s " ERT" at the end!

Made available by 31608 Records, with CD and cover art by Yudhi Sutjiawan - I am going to spread this via Tree. Sign up begins today and will end at midnight on Saturday 02-08-03

I' ve gotta get this. I missed this show because of the damn snowstorm that day. I wasn' t really confident in driving 3+ hours to New York, which I had never done before, in the snow. Thanks for posting this, I' ll sign up now.

Is this an audience or a soundboard recording? What grade (A/B)?.

                      Thanks

This might be a stupid question, but I' m gonna risk it anyway: is this also open to non-US residents? Because I sooooo want this one.

ok, an even dumber question...How exactly do we get this disc(s). I am totally out of the loop, and have no clue what a " tree" is. Insert jokes below:

                                    Tree:
Trunk (or Root) - The person with the Master or the copy being distributed.

Branch - People with burners who can spin copies for multiple people.

Leaf - People who either can' t spin copies or can only make one copy.

Typically a Root gets the discs out to the Branches, who in turn distribute them to leaves. This is normally done by trading, though the Tull Usenet group used to do them for $20/set.

The newest method is a " Weed" , where one person agrees to send copies to 2 or 3 people (either for free or in trade) if they' ll agree to " re-Weed" the set to 2 or 3 other people in turn. After a few re-Weeds, a set usually makes it to everyone who wants it. There' s a Zeppelin Yahoo group that does this extensively.

Or you can be a dick and sell them.

Xan, thanks for the explanation!! I don' t have a burner on my pc, but I seriously want a copy. What should I do? I would be more than willing to trade.

Thank you for explaining the Tree idear Xan.

Here' s another question that I' ve seen pop up in multiple emails (45 so far guys keep ' em coming!!)

I will be leaving it up to the Branches to work out trades or blank & postage deals with the Leaves they are assigned.

I' m getting a lot of people willing to be branches this time which is awesome!!

Some people have gotten emails in response to their request " ONLY" if they have asked a question that needed answering. You will receive a confirmation email on 2-8-03 that you have been placed on the tree.

Tree structuring has already begun (because I' m being flooded with emails) and I hope to have everything ready to go by 2-10-03 - Some branches will be receiving their copies over the next 2 weeks. If you have been selected for this you will receive an email. Branches willing to download the SHNs from my private FTP will also be receiving an email shortly.

31608 Records and I would like to thank you all for making this so successful in just under 10 hours. Providing this goes smoothly, I' ll be starting another " goodie" around in March :)

So, I guess in my email you' ll tell me what an SHN file is and how to use it when I make copies for the leaves, right?

That' s right! The BBKings Warm Up gig gets a fresh spin.

This is a previously unavailable recording of the January 19th 2002 show at BBKings in New York City! IMHO this is better than any of the other 3 versions in circulation, complete right down to MP' s " ERT" at the end!

Is there any chance of getting a sample put up somewhere to compare sound quality? I' ve got this show already and would like to check out the difference...

                                              Thanks..

SHNs are compressed WAV files, like MP3 but they' re " lossless" . MP3' s contain algorithms that chop off certain frequencies deemed undetectable to the human ear at determined bitrates (which is why higher bitrate MP3s sound better...), where SHN only compresses the file and doesn' t cut anything from the original file.

You can download SHN plugins for WinAMP, convert them to WAV and burn as CD. Just check the files with a WAV editor before you do, some compressors insert a split second of silence at the beginning and end of a SHN file and if you don' t cut that silence out it will almost sound like it was burned in track-at-once mode with the gaps between tracks.
" We used to say that Frisbee is really a religion -- ' Frisbyterians,' we' d call ourselves. When we die, we don' t go to purgatory. We just land up on the roof and lay there." - Ed Headrick, Frisbee inventor

Actually, if the CD is ripped properly you' ll never get those little blank spaces when encoding to SHN. SHN was designed with that in mind. MP3 encoders, however, do seem to " pad" the files with silence. Just one more reason MP3 is worthless for anything other than a cursory listen.

For information regarding SHN - Visit www.etree.org

Here you can find the plugins for winamp, and the links to Michael K. Weiss' s software which I use for encoding / decoding and verification of MD5 signature files.

To clarify : Only branches willing to download the show via FTP will be getting SHNS - All others will be burning AUDIO CDs

Hey Wey, do the branches have to trade with you (i have exactly 0 boots), or are you just one of the coolest guys around and are going to let the branches simply download off of you? Also, about how many leaves will each branch take care of? (I realize you have us answer that question when we sign up, but I dont want to sign up for 7 or 8 leaves while everyone else is doing 45)

Im deciding whether or not I have the time to be a branch.

I do want in on this since I was at the show BUT, due to all of my time involved in school right now, I can' t be a branch, otherwise I could.

All I need is a copy of this, however, I WOULD have enough time to make a few copies, but not a mass amount of copies.

would any branch be willing to tell me how many leaves they are going to service? I really want to see if I can do this, but I don' t want to be a useless branch servicing a small amount of leaves.

edit: and also, how do I go about the artwork?
