RE: DT & SCORE on VH1 Classic - Friday, August 25, 2006 4:28 PM
Hey I need some help overhere with the DVD. I am about to preorder the dvd from Amazon and I its gonna be shipped to my aunt´s palce in miami.. after that hopefully she will send it to me as soon as possible.

The problem I am having is that my DVD player is Region 1 and I have some region 1 dvds that play ok on it but on the tv they look just like when you moved the tracking buttons on the old VCRs. Now with a region "ALL" DVDs such as Steve Vai´s Live at the astoria dvd I don´t have any problem, I get a perfect Image and a perfect 5.1 surround sound.

So I haven´t solved this issue yet. Does anybody know why is this? What region is Score? (and I mean the one sold on Amazon... cause it doesn´t say anything.

Score from Amazon.com is NTSC region free.
Your problem's not regions, it's NTSC vs PAL. Don't know what system South America uses. Look on the back of the Vai DVD. If it says NTSC then the Score DVD will play fine. The problem is probably your TV which can only view a NTSC or PAL signal, not both.
If you had a region incompatibility the DVD player will not recognize the DVD at all.

Why not send it directly to your place? Amazon delivers to Venezuela (CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes and books only) directly.

I'm thinking it's to see the conductor of the orchestra for the second set.  I'm not sure, though.  Just a guess.

Ditto. I'm pretty sure they broadcasted in 5.1. It was way too obviously keyboard/vocal heavy.

The end of Innocence Faded was awesome, especially Mike's little stick toss/bounce on the final note.  I love when he does that, I used to do it in jazz band when our director wasn't looking and the band kids loved it.

Great song selection for the alloted time.  MP did a great job of picking songs that were well reflective of the band's diversity.  Hopefully this little bit of exposure will bring in some new fans.

I kept picturing households across America flipping through the channels and landing on Under a Glass Moon or Sacrificed Sons.  People must have had no idea what they were looking at!

That has to be it because the guitar was too low in the mix!

It definitely sounded like 5.1 surround to me. I'm lucky enough to have that setup on my system. I thought the sound was excellent.

I'm so happy for James. I thought he really stuggled on the Budokan DVD (Jetlag), and as bad as he was on Budokan he was that much better on what I heard tonight on VH1.

Tuesday can't get here quick enough!

Actually it wasn't in 5.1, at least on my cable system.  I have never seen any programming on VH1 Classic come in 5.1.  I  didn't have a problem with the mix at all.

My thoughts:

The sound was probably not formatted for my TV. I got very little guitar and some other things sounded off. Not a huge deal for TV.

James sounded KILLER. Pretty much nailed everything.

Couldn't really hear the orchestra that much, but porbably for the same reason that I couldn't hear the guitar.

Camera work was good. Kept the energy going, although it prevented me from spotting myself in the audience.

All in all, very cool to see such a strong sowing form DT actually AIRED ON TV!!

Enjoyed watching it very much. To me, MP and JP looked so different.

I have an entirely new outlook on SS! That song KILLED. Everyone was on. James was great, you could see MP buzzing big time in the beginning, and JR did some very tasteful tweaking here and there. So many DVD's to buy in the next two weeks!

Man, I thought the sound was great! I don't have 5.1. I mean, I could if I had 4 more speakers. Still, I thought it sounded great. I think it sounds better than LAB. We'll see how Score really sounds on Tuesday.

What a nice treat to be able to see Score on TV before the DVD / CD is released next week.

The interviews were cool...gotta love Eddie Trunk.

Now about that cough I am going to develop Monday night to take Tuesday off...
