Regardless, it is money time for them! You can't buy better advertising that this! Besides, many people who don't know who DT is will now possibly be exposed to them and become rabid fans like all of us, er just me.

Yes, Eddie Trunk had everything to do with this. Let me share a really cool story with you all. On Thursday night, I was at Irving Plaza in NYC seeing Soul Asylum in concert (great show by the way- awesome live band!), and the show was MC'd by Eddie Trunk... halfway through the show, I look over and Eddie was standing in the crowd about 10 feet from me, so I decided to walk over and say hello. I also wanted to make him laugh with a funny observation, which was that I was willing to bet that he and I were the only 2 people at the Soul Asylum show who were also at the Y&T show the prior Sunday night at BB King's (another GREAT live hard rock band from the 80's who are currently on tour), and he said he agreed this was likely the case... then I say to him, "And I can DEFINITELY tell you we're the only two people here who were also at the DT RCMH show!" and he agreed with that and then goes "I just got done having  dinner with Portnoy and Petrucci... I interviewed them for a spot on VH-Classic... he's actually down at BB King's right now seeing the Crumbsuckers play- I actually tried to convince him to come here with me, but he wanted to see that show instead...." At this point, I realized that if not for the Crumbsuckers, I would likely have been standing next to both Eddie Trunk and MP at the Soul Asylum show!

Holy crapazoids - this is fantastic!

August 25th....I'm working that day but the bar I work at has VH1 classic and a pretty good size Dream Theater fanbase. We'll be watching.
 
Can't wait to see this, I can't wait to buy SCORE, and I can't wait for the next Dream Theater album, AND I can't wait to see the band live in concert out in my neck of the woods. You guys are awesome, Mike. But I also think you guys should do a festival tour of your own.....Similar to Ozzfest and Gigantour, but with Progressive Metal bands.

How much is a condensed verison? An hour?

The moment I found out you a Eddie were friends I always wonder when you would be on Metal Mania.

K - do you get the Eddie Trunk show on Friday nights there on your VH-1 Classic?  If you do, then I'd say you're in luck.

There's something to be said for knowing so many other people are watching at the same time. It's like watching Rocky IV on TNT. Yeah there are commercials and they cut out parts, and I have the DVD, but its cool knowing someone else is screaming Draaago at the same time!
 
What I don't understand is people saying "MTV sucks, VH1 Classic rules"... you do know they are not only the same company, but share alot of the same employees right? Just a diff marketing strategy. MTV goes after 14-21yolds and VH1 goes after us old folks, and folks that listen to old folks music. Hey, at least they're marketing to us! (pssst we got more $$ now ;))

Well, aside from it airing the weekend BEFORE it comes out and getting some face time for our heroes, it's still VERY cool.

VH1 Classic is heading down the same road as all the channels before them.  First they played the good videos, then they dilute the mix with bad ones , then they subtly cut back the video programming in favor of recycled lifestyle programming and hope nobody notices and before you know you have another homogenized lifestyle/culture channel. I realize they must be understaffed and underpaid, but I really sometimes think that nobody shows up for work a lot of the time.  Eddie Trunk seems like he's the only one who seems to care and I can't believe some of the stuff they make him do.

Hells yeah! And the people that actually want to make a difference never get the chance. There's too much fuckin bueurocracy to fight through, at some point you're just like "fuck it, this ain't worth it" and move on to something else. It's really not a lack of good ideas or talent as it is a lack of insight and forward thinking by the powers that be. For the true idealists it a situation they can only take for so long before they quit.

I'm so exciting to know about this!  I will not miss it :)

I don't know what they'll show since it's an hour long - the commercails, so about 40 mins give or take.  It would be kind of cool if all they did was the whole SDOIT but I'm just looking forward to seeing them play with the orchestra.
