RIP Booty 1990-2006
-
Thursday, July 20, 2006 4:23 PM
Sorry for the spam. We put her down at 15:30 yesterday. Overall she had been healthy her entire life with no major problems. But recently she had developed kidney tumours/failure and hadn't eaten or drank for a few days. She went missing Monday night and after looking all night Dad found her Tuesday afternoon under some rubble in our neighbours' yard, it seems she was trying to find a place to die. She was 16, ancient in cat years to say the least, but still very active and playful up until about two weeks ago. Beverly and I got her from the SPCA in 1990. It's funny cuz the kitten we originally wanted was ganked from us by the time we came back with the money to adopt it, so we "settled" for Boot, but it was fate that brought her to us. She spent the first few years of her life with me but then latched on to Dad. He took great care of her and she was always happy, even if she didn't show it all the time, and don't even think about rubbing her tummy. Dad was also in a better and happier place when she was around. They really were kindred spirits. Considering she was an outdoor cat in the extreme, and we have coyotes and racoons all over the place, it's amazing she made it this far. She had a couple of close calls but always made it through. Thanks for the memories, Boo-Boo, we'll miss you.

Aww... what a beautiful kitty. Very sorry for your loss. I know its never easy, but I hope you take comfort in the fact that she had a good long life with you and that you were with her in the end helping her go more peacefully.

Aw... Hopefully you guys will get over the poor pet's death soon. It reminds me that my little cat is getting rather old as well, yours has been very lucky and strong to make it that far!! Thoughts and big hugs to you. <3

It is a sad day when you have to make that call. My family did last year with our cat Kasper. He developed a tumor in his ear and was starting to fail health wise. We had him for a long time. Rip Boots Rip my Kasper 1987-2005 ( yes he was 18)

Aw, thanks for all the support you guys, it really means a lot. I know I don't post here as often as I should but I know I can always count on the mp.com family to help out me, or anyone, in times of need. What a great group of peeps. I've had several pets pass on over the years and, you know, it's actually easier (for me at least) if they die suddenly... like hit by a car or whatever, than it is if they fade away and you have to make the decision to put them down and be there with them. To have to look into their eyes knowing what's coming and then having their life fade away in your hands is the most gut-wrenching thing to experience, I'm starting to cry just thinking about it. I'm making a little shrine of her ashes for my Dad so maybe I'll post a picture of that when it's done. Congrats and kudos to all who take care of animals, it takes a special kind of person to care for a bond with a critter, and I feel like I know all of you. Thanks again, friends... *cry*

Aww man, my heart goes out to you. I had to put my last cat to sleep at the age of 21. He was fine until a mass formed in his chest and he couldn't breathe. Thought prays and hugs are with you.

My condolences for sure. I have two and they are my first. I know it's going to hurt like hell to come home and not have them around. Qtip is 14 now and perfectly healthy. I know not to take the time they are with us for granted. Pets dont' live as long as us because their love is so perfect, God only lets us BORROW them.

Sorry for your loss. It may seem silly to some, but I totally understand what you are going through. I experienced something very, very similar. I had a cat that my family found in 1982 when he was a tiny kitten. I was in the first grade at the time and I immediately became attached to him, and it remained that way... He became ill in 1996--a kidney tumor--just like you mentioned. He stopped eating for two weeks and even began to drool and wabble when he walked. The Vet said that there was no hope and we agreed to put him to sleep.... probably the most painful thing that I had to endure. In time, you will feel better.

ORIGINAL: PetFish She went missing Monday night and after looking all night Dad found her Tuesday afternoon under some rubble in our neighbours' yard, it seems she was trying to find a place to die. My cat did the same thing a while back. They seem to have an instinctual feeling that they're dying and don't want to do it in the house. My cat silvia was very sick and we all knew we were going to have to put her down soon, and she managed to get out the door one day and we never saw her again. We looked but never found her.

That sucks. It looked like such a cute cat. The Spirit Carries On, Booty.
Likely or Not it's a Dream that We Keep and at Odds with our Senses we Climb. But if Faith is the Answer then we've Already Reached It and if Spirit's a Sign then it's Only a Matter of Time
