Yeah but what I ment was.. (like you see on the TV) mostly the suspect has something physologically wrong. He wants to be Mike so bad.. because one or another reason. So maybe talking could help it. But I agree with you that it's wrong to give the suspect what he wants.
But maybe if we make a world map. When someone has information about the location the imposter is being.. you can upload the map and highlight the point the guy is. (With exact informations). Then people who are on that location (This forum has a lot of members, so we will probably be world-wide) can help catch the guy. (by making contact with local authorities, or e-mail the webmaster of this site).
But how 'bad' is this thing really in the eyes of the authorities. (I know this is killing for you Mike). But could it become a case for FBI.

NO, he does not want to be Mike so bad, he wants to use another dude's identity to STEAL SHIT.  He could just as easily be impersonating YOU.

The point here is that for MP to get physically involved in the investigation to the degree you have visualized is not only potentially stressful for MP, but extremely **dangerous**.

I agree wth Keith that such a scenario gives Mendez validation... fuck Mendez.  MP doesn't owe him a second of his precious time.

Baldrick, what begins with "Come here" and ends with "Ow"?

Another thing.. the authorities can also just look in a database for his identification pass. Where he lives and things. They can stop his bank-accounts, so he has no money, they can stop every 'service' so he will not have a life right?

I know you mean well but I doubt you will teach the police how to do their job. The guy's out of prison so I doubt he has any card at all and if he has, the police is probably just waiting for him to use it to trace him.

The problem is exactly that the guy knows how to "have a life" at other people's expense.

The ideal way to catch this guy would be to lure him in again to showing up at some random bar concert or something and when and if this guy actually shows up nab him there, otherwise your right it would be really hard to trace him.

Yeah it's not a great idea, but at least it is a idea. I've read a lot of posts in this thread, and most people only tell 'We have got to do something / I feel with you mike' and thats true. It is not right. But this is not going to help him (maybe mentally), if we want to do something we need deeds instead of words. So we need idea's, and yes.. its a job of the police, but if it is not working, and the situation is not getting better or even worse, someone could consider it. (i dont say that we need my idea, but we need idea's, not only saying we have to do something).

If he's as screwed up as it seems, he'll make a mistake and get snagged again.

I can't believe this is happening AGAIN .  I hope this gets resolved, quickly, and without further pain.

How is it that it would help? Do you think you've encountered him as you met someone claiming to be Mike Portnoy?

When I last asked MP abooot it (which was probably a year ago), he said he hadn't heard anything either way. It's unfortunate that the bastard is still out there considering he started pulling the same crap again, but maybe now that he's more or less a fugitive, he'll stop pulling that crap so as to lay low. Then again, the idiot started doing the same thing after serving a few years in prison for it, so maybe not...

I guess what it boils down to is, if MP posts abooot it here, then something's up; otherwise, assume the guy is still out there, but hopefully not causing anymore problems.
