While I understand what you're saying, you have to remember that there are plenty of people who are out there that barely know who Dream Theater and Mike Portnoy are, and only know the song Pull Me Under - they don't know anything more abooot MP other than the fact that he drums for DT. If Chris Caffery can be fooled (at least briefly), then many people who are only vaguely familiar with MP/DT can also be fooled. Apparently this schmuck must put on enough of a convincing act to fool people. For that reason alone, this should not be taken lightly.

Thankfully, at least some people start to become wary of his actions and question his legitimacy, contacting this website or people who know.

As to the Tommy Lee comments, I could not agree more - when I saw the picture, that was the first thing that ran through my mind. Considering how Mr. Mendez acts and looks, he do a much better job fooling people by claiming to be Tommy Lee than MP.

If I might be so bold to ask, how was he using your identity to steal people's wallets and things? That just sounds like common pick-pocketing IMO, and then he's using you as an alias for some bizarre reason. Also, what were the implications of having tow Mike Portnoy's in one room? Was it in the similar thread as 'Chuck Norris and Mr T. walk into a bar..'?

Do I remember correctly from the original story that this guy fooled people Mike actually knew? He must be a damn good actor or have done some really heavy appearance-changing drugs in the last 3 years. Either way, I can't think he'll get any further than he did the first time, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

The problem is, the damn justice system isn't just working and, we have the damn proof just right there!  Let me explain my point:
1. Someone impersonate a celeb. and messes around
2. Some people aren't fooled and report the mofo.
3. Police do their job and investigate to finally, get a hold of the mofo.
4. Mofo is judged and sent to prison for x day(s), month(s), year(s)
5. At some point, the mofo is released.
 
There's something missing there: REHAB!!
Why OH why these peeps do not get ANY help??? This is beyond me...
This guy should have psychological evaluation and taken to an institute to be treated so that when he's release, there's a way better chance that he won't do that kind of stuff again...

this is my opinion and everyone deserves to have it!

I have to admit, the numerous remarks wishing and/or offerring to inflict bodily harm on the douchebag bother me. Yeah, we're all protective of Mike, the Portnoy clan, and all of DT and Co., and yeah, we're all angry and concerned, but this lynch mob/vigilante attitude is just personally distasteful to me.

That said, if this guy is out, and if this guy is at it again, he needs to be stopped. I'd bet dollars to donuts MP's passed on this new info to the authorities and that there's a restraining order if applicable. What can forum members and fans can do? I dunno, maybe flyers? Put 'em in music stores, clubs, bars, venues where the rock/metal crowd tends to gather. "This guy is NOT Mike Portnoy, drummer of Dream Theater. His name is Anthony Mendez and he has been known to impersonate Portnoy in the past to take advantage of people and even to commit several thefts. If seen please contact _____________" I don't know if that's a good idea or not, but it would A) warn people and make it a LOT harder for the dude to pull his scam, B) Let this dude know that the word is out and maybe dissuade or intimidate him and C) could yield info or evidence that could get this guy back in jail or into a psych ward. It just seems a lot more constructive and potentially effective than threats etc.

The main thing would be to get the word out to prevent this guy from finding any more victims. Maybe Eddie Trunk could mention it on the air or website?
