Man, I FINALLY GET IT!!! Pain Of Salvation are genius! I' ve known them for years now, but I just never could get into them, their music used to give me headaches. But I gave em another chance the other day and Remedy Lane and The Perfect Element have completely blown me.

It' s goosebumps after goosebumps. Truly excellent music...

If I finally got into PoS, I think Meshuggah does stand a chance with me

    PEACE...

        Yea!!!!!!!!!!!

        Weclome to the club!!!!!!!

I don' t really understand the strong negative reaction by some people to PoS. I don' t think their music is for everyone. I mean they have a strong style, and anytime a band has that, it is sure to alienate as many fans as it turns on.

But some people seem to think they' re required to like it...then when they don' t they react very negatively. I think they' re a band that does take more time and energy than most. I have always told poeple to give a full cd of theirs 3-5 full attentive spins. I think if you don' t like it fine...no harm. I mean I think it is the same way with exposing a non prog fan to DT. you just ask them to give it their attention for a few spins and see if they like it.

Entropia, a rare record as it is, reflects the true musical abilities of this group..absofuckinglutely magical album...with no particular style of metal but amazingly technical music...

                  HA-HA-HA!!!

Maybe it just might. At least, it did with me. Destroy-Erase-Improve was the first one I got...but I gotta tell ya, it' s really gonna take some patience. Luckily, I was able to give it the proper attention it needed in order to hook on. " Nothing" has those eight string guitars and radical distortion, heh...Meshuggah is the sickest music I own, and is the perfect shit to shock a person with. I also listen to them when I' m in an angry mood. Really helps with embracing it, then being able to let it go.

Another record I' ve been listening to alot lately is " Last Fair Deal Gone Down" by Katatonia. It' s got radio sensibilities, yet it' s melancholly and rather strange at some points. The songs " Dispossession" and " Teargas" are great numbers, in particular. There are clean vocals that are not operatic, and it doesn' t take long to get used to them. It' s not the sick black metal of their past...not really heavy, and it' s got good melodies. Also has some mellotron. Opeth' s own Mikael Akerfeldt produced it, if I can remember correctly. Definitely worth checking out, IMO, if you like that kind of music.

Here' s a POS story from the other night ... BigSuave sent me some mp3 of POS, he' s still desperately trying to get me into this band. I got about a minute into it and just couldn' t take it anymore. You can have the greatest lyrics in the world, the most moving, but if your music doesn' t do anything for me, see ya! Thats exactly what I think of POS, very boring, does nothing for me, goes no where.

Good for you people that are into them, I' m sure I have a band or two that I think is the greatest and you wouldn' t get into them either, so its all good

Yup... ' tis true. I know Billy had heard some other stuff in the past and didn' t like it. However, I wasn' t sure which tracks or sound clips he' d heard (even though I' d sent a " recommendation" list of tracks to check out), and I wasn' t sure what exactly it was about the stuff he had heard that he didn' t like.

So the other day, I' m rockin' out on the way to work of my tape of " Remedy Lane" , and one of the tape' s bonus tracks came on: " Beyond The Mirror" . This has always been one of my favorite PoS tunes, and when listening to it, I began to think how the production and song structure were a little less " off the wall" and more fairly " traditional" sounding. So, I thought I' d give it a shot with Billy to see if maybe THIS stuck. No dice.

I told him that I' d try to sneak him some other PoS tunes now and then disguised as something else to see if he would like them better if he didn' t already know it was PoS.

Ah well, turns out he doesn' t like Daniel' s voice AT ALL, nor the music... pretty much everything, unfortunately. Whatcha gonna do.

BTW, congrats Symphony on finally having the band " hit you" ! For those whom the music " hits" , there' s no going back. Each album gives me more chills than I can even count. Seeing them perform live in Atlanta from the front row in front of Daniel was a borderline religious experience. And most DEFINITELY find a way to hunt down " Entropia" and " One Hour By The Concrete Lake" . While TPE and RL both sound similar to one another, the first 2 albums sound drastically different. IMO, all 4 albums are still masterpieces, however.

Yeah....I guess the point I was trying to make was that....while I think there are many people that do not like/ understand Opeth, Porcupine Tree or other forum favorites. These people do not seem to have the strong negative " I see the emperor without clothes" reaction that they do if they dislike PoS.

I understood their genious when I was listening " Remedy Lane" alone, reading the lyrics... it was just an awesome experience

yeah as someone said, get ' em all! D.Gildenlöw = genius.. I like the two newer ones more though, they sound more " mature" or something

Well , The only 2 albums I can say I really listened closely are Remedy Lane and Perfect Element , but I just loooovvveeee this band!!!!
Especially Remedy Lane , it' s very touching , very moving...it made me cry 3 or 4 times , and I always get chills down my spine every time I listen to it...
Sincerely , IMHO , Remedy Lane is the best prog/rock release of 2002.

I still have to buy the other albums , and I' ll certainly will.

i would venture to say that Remedy Lane is one of the best prog rock releases EVAR.

IMHO, it is the best prog rock/metal release ever.

Swedish progressive metal bands are the best in the business, in my opinion. Pain of Salvation, Meshuggah, and Opeth are fucking brilliant.

The anti-melodic assault of Meshuggah is quite a bit more abrasive than Pain of Salvation, though. Hope you enjoy ' em.

I bought TPE close to a year ago and didn' t particularly care for it on the first few listens. It was just a couple months ago I pulled it off the shelf and started playing it again and what happens? It finally " Hit me" too! It' s definitely awkward at the beginning. There is obviously no one else out there like PoS. No band could possibly copy their style. It has to be the most unique style in music I' ve ever heard. But it got over to me. I immediately bought RL and intend to work my way back now.

For me, PoS are the best band I have discovered for myself in the last 5 years or so. I think every album has it' s own qualities and I rate Remedy Lane as my favourite. However I am listening to Entropia the most in recent weeks - very diverse and satisfying.

Yep, it' s all in the delivery. I have absolutely no problem with people not liking the band, nor in the way that Aredore worded his reasons for disliking them. It was just the way that you voiced your displeasure that I think got the panties of most of the people who replied to you in a bunch (myself included). I don' t think you' re insane at all for not liking them... it' s all just a matter of taste. Although, I absolutely LOVE the band, so there.
