Imagine Dave LaRue on the bassila with those guys. Whew, crapped my pants!

I recently saw Neil Peart working with another band and I know Alex has worked with Three Doors Down, Honeymoon Suite, etc.... My point is, maybe Geddy would like to play bass on this project? I'm guessing that would be one of Mike's all-time highlights. It seems like Rush is more easy going and approachable in the last decade. Geddy is busy writing a new album with Lerxst and Pratt, but it's fun to dream about EDIT: Chris Squire is another great candidate!

I'd prefer Sean Malone or Trey Gunn for this stuff they'd own it! Though... it's been almost a year a no news... DT's on a break, I believe PT and Opeth are touring now... I'm getting anctious!

Specially if you consider that Mike and Steven want to have it heavy! Sean Malone is just perfect!

Sean Malone would be awesome, but he was on the OSI album, so I doubt Mike's gonna bring him in (not that he's a bad bassist, but I think it would be better to have a new face). So I suggest Steve Di Giorgio

It sure would be nice to get a definitive answer on whether this project is ever going to happen. I've read some recent interviews w/Akerfeldt where he says he has agreed to do a side project but stated that he doesn't want to say anything because it's probably 1.5 to 2 years down the road. He also said he has agreed to be a part of 2 other projects. If everyone in this trio were given equal weight in the creative process I think the result could acheive legendary status. MP...if you read this could you let us know if the project is dead or still alive.

Cyrax I'm glad you are so confident. I'm not so sure myself. There was a period of time where MP said it was a question of "when" not "if" but many months have passed since then with nothing more officially being said. The last time Akerfeldt officially mentioned it (quoted in someone else's post above) he said he didn't know. Maybe yes, maybe no....but don't hold your breath.

This sounds kinda odd, but I think an interesting mix would be Myung doing something with Chick Corea.

ORIGINAL: emtee It sure would be nice to get a definitive answer on whether this project is ever going to happen. Steven Wilson has said in several interviews that as soon as he and Akerfeldt both have time to spare, they will try to make it work. He never mentions Portnoy, so I get the impression that they will use him, too, if he is available at the time, but if he isn't, it won't prevent the two of them from collaborating on a side project.

Yeah, have you seen how busy SW is this year? It's going to take a while, I think...
The problem is, or rather one of the problems, for there are many, a sizable number of which are continually clogging up the civil, commercial, and criminal courts in all areas of the Galaxy, and especially, where possible, the more corrupt ones, this.

I asked Mr. Akerfeldt about this casually off the air. He said the project is nowhere near dead and he hopes everyone forgets about it so that when they finally get together it'll be a nice little surprise. It's going to happen, but noone knows when. They like each other to much to not make it happen.

A project of this sort would be but hearing that Opeth will be doing 3 U.S. headlining tours as well as world tours im sure it doesnt look like it will be in the near future. All 3 of them are too f ing busy but i guess that's good for us fans . I'm sure it will happen eventually we just dont know when obviously.

Well hey, Progressive Nation final show (for now) is June 4, and www.porcupinetree.com doesn't have any dates after May 30... ...Too bad Opeth is playing festivals until August. That would've been the perfect time. ...Hell, still could be the perfect time.

I really hope that this is going to be happening at one point. Those 3 guys are just masterminds really. This could be one AMAZING project, with all the different input from the guys. Although I gotta say that I see a few "pairings" in this one. MP and MA being the first, SW and MA being the second. But I'm gonna be interested in SW and MP side of it. We'll see.

Sean Malone certainly does seem like the perfect fit for this; he's always been mostly a studio guy anyways, given his 'real' job. He could definitely add some extra depth to this project.

I think keyboards would be nicer in a Barbieri sort of laid back, atmospheric way. I definitely can't imagine Wilson or Akerfeldt really wanting the Sehrinian/Sheehan approach. Okumoto is just as unsuited, I think. I also think that the bass slot should be taken by Trey Gunn (on the Warr Guitar or whatever he's using these days). This project is definitely in the top of my musical wishlist. I really hope it does happen. It would be awesome if they found the time to ake it work as a big project, taking more than a couple of months to write and record, and maybe even tour. Not likely, but I can dream.

Much as I love the bass as an instrument, I think the most important characteristic needed for the bass player to possess in this project is restraint. I don't think they need to look too far; I think Colin Edwin would be a great fit here.

Bass? John Paul Jones. I always wanted a project with MP, Devin Townsend and JPJ. But SW and MA are good enough for me to think about this later...
